  1. GL, Bef. I had a kidney stone about four years ago, and I can't say it was particularly pleasant, but I think mine was relatively small/minor. Or, perhaps I simply have no feelings. They are often caused by dehydration, apparently, as most people get stones, but lack of water causes them to leave the kidneys and go places that don't want them. I have not had another since then, I am happy to report. I wish you good health and a stone-free future.
  2. . . . he padded silently across his room to the window and looked out, but nothing seemed amiss. No scary shadows or strange shapes. Relieved, he turned back toward his bed, when suddenly he heard a scraping, right behind him. The hair stood up on the back of his neck as a cold shiver traversed his spine. Looking quickly around, he saw the faint outline of a woman, standing by the door. Her form glowed an iridescent green. She appeared to be in her late fourties, in disheveled clothes, and mud-caked boots. In one hand she carried an old shovel and in the other a hooded lantern. He thought that at any moment his legs would give way under him, but he managed to stay upright as she beckoned to him and disappeared through the closed door. Not knowing why or what compelled him, he followed the shifting spirit out of the room, down the stairs, and out the front door. The wind whipped his flannel pajamas, but he did not seem to notice, so intent was he on following the ghostly figure. She led him back behind the house and into the old orchard of apple trees. As the clouds shifted and revealed a full moon, the phantom turned to him and pointed . . .

  4. I sometimes put chocolate syrup in my milk. Mmmmmm.
