  1. Well I NEVER EVER thought Id be making a post like this... Not ever... Yesterday I disbanded the Spawn alliance in an attempt to end one of the greatest things I have ever been part of. I did so because Spawn was waning and losing its strength. I wanted Spawn to be remembered for the strong and proud ally it has always been, I didn’t want to see it slowly whittle away into something that wasn’t taken seriously by the larger ogame community. Making the choice was very tough to do. I founded the ally 3 minutes after the uni 9 server opened most of spawn was in it from then as well. The Spawn members were primarily my best friends and my family. As time went by we took in a few good people and made a family of us all. Sadly all good things must eventually come to an end and so it has. The decision I made to go to Sin along with a couple of others namely Anestty and Vo was not an easy decision. I can’t speak for everyone as to the reasons but I can talk about mine. I chose Sin for 2 reasons, 1st reason- I like to play this game very aggressively I don’t pull punches I say what I mean and I try to incite aggressive responses from my enemies and I’m proud of the fact that I’m not afraid to bait the top players, this being said I’ve known Dark for very long time now and know that by and large the dark ally is more peaceful and certainly more cautious when carrying out actions that can effect the wider clan. So in this way Sin is perfect cause they are super aggressive and have many highly skilled and fleet oriented players. The second reason- I truly believed that Spawn and Dark were one ally with two in game tags... I believed that my going to Sin along with Anestty and Vo and maybe velocity would give us a chance to bring together the two clans. To form a lasting relationship that would be so beneficial for all of us. I hoped to convince them to see allying or at least napping with dark as a good thing or at the very least be a point of contact for dark so that if an attack happened, you guys could contact me or Anestty or Vo and we could SCREAM at them to recall... The thing that I NEVER EVER imagined coming from this is ironically what has happened... I believed in the friends I have made in this community. I believed that the friends that I and Anestty and Vo had made were REAL friends... I believed that what we had went beyond and in game ally tag... What mattered to me more than this stupid game was the community the friends that bordered on being family. I believed that the people here knew me and trusted me as a good and decent person. I believed... The actions of today have made me realize that my belief in what’s good and right in this world is not necessarily so. Just because I give my trust and my respect does not mean it will be reciprocated. This is truly one of the sadder days of my life. Today tells me that what I cared about, what I thought mattered I.e. decency, respect, trust and mateship is not worth the pixels your reading. If you all believe that because my in game ally tag has changed that I would or any other spawner would suddenly sell you out to Sin then what mattered most to me is gone and the sadness I felt over Spawn's closure is but a whisper to the grief I feel now being abandoned by those that I thought actually gave a damn about me... For shame for shame that any of you should let fear of the unknown justify this kind of treatment. I am the same person I always was and always will be as is Anessty as is Vo... Id really hate to believe that what I’ve heard is true but I’m hearing it all about so I’m left questioning everything I thought I knew about people that I’ve been proud to associate with... For shame for shame that I should ever have to post such words. Incendareous oh and apologies for posting this in a "public area" it wasnt my call...

  5. Hey guys im in the process of trialing an idea and still need more info from those that have yet to post. Can everyone please provide the co ords of their moons and the phalanx level, please include stuff that overalaps as you or the person you are overlaping may or may not be online when the help is one day needed :cha (18): Re recyclers please post numbers and wether they are gated and if so to which moons:) Also it looks like we may be using gmail as the secure host for accessing and updating the information so if anyone doesnt have a gmail account and requires an invite or anything please post that request as well Cheers Incendareous
  6. Hey guys let me try to reasure you on the trust/info issue Re Sin... I COMPLETELY understand the apprehension... And I give my solemn word that no info would ever pass from myself to them regarding strategic and sensitive Dark info EVER... My relationship with dark meens the world to me and my relationship with the sin folks is largely strategic... that might sound wrong but is what it is... They have done too many things and have too many floating members for me to ever trust them as a group. They will have access to spawns info because it is neccessary in order to secure theirs, and to cement ongoing diplomatic relations. I would never expect the same from dark as I know there is at least one member of sin that has outright stated his intentions to hit a dark member if the opportunity arose... not out of malevolence but purley profit driven, as some of them are... I know this may not resolve the issue for everyone reading this but my word is all I have and thats what I offer Cheers Incendareous
  7. Hey folks Now that Spawn has reformed I want to get a few things in place to help us all In SoS our interanal section of our ally page was full of usefull info... I want to take the best of what SoS had and take it a step further... In SoS all moon positions were listed on the internal section of the ally page along with recs available... I propose that D.A.R.K Dark W and Spawn merge our info to provide a list of ALL ally moons and their phalanx ranges along with recs available. This will enable all of us to use each others resources/intel to maximum benefit! Also while Sin has not yet agreed to a nap or ally with D.A.R.K and the wing we(Spawn) have that alliance(with Sin) in place... I WILL make all their moons ranges and rec availabilty known to D.A.R.K UNOFFICIALY and will use our relationship with them to enable colaborated hits and rec coverage where needed If we all get behind this idea it will be a massive tool that really no one else in the uni has to the kind of level we as a community can achieve :cha (18): please post thoughts etc Cheers Incendareous
  8. I know no Jingo... if however you meen jindo then it is probably antharas
  9. I currently have 3 rips. I have them basically for fleetsaving and will probably build another 3 or 4 for that same reason. When I fleetsave I am particualry paranoid about being caught moon to debris. so basically when I fleetsave I use 4 or more decoy rec missions from other moons that arrive 45 secs before and after each of my real fleetsaves... basically I divide my fleet into 3 chunks of around equal value so that if someone trys to hit my return they can only ever get 1/3 of my fleet cause the other 2/3 will arrive 45 secs before or after the one they hit. which meens I can get all debris in the event I get hit and fleetsave 2/3 of my fleet in the 45 sec windows either side, also the decoys arrive randomly 45 secs before and/or after the real fleets providing obsurity to gal view scaners. This meathod does require some effort in timing the recs from the other moons but saves me millions in deut. I will build another 3 or 4 rips so I can further subdivide my fleet. Also I guess once to 5-7 rips you can also use them occasionly to bash turtles down especially fat inactive turtles
  10. ok apologies in advance if this post ends up being legnthy or tediously detailed and most of everything everone knows but hopefuly tidbits will come out for some folks. This is a huge question with many answers that come in several flavours ok so attacking in the core some do's and donts. First of all any good ogamer who has invested serious points in their fleet should also invest time in knowing their nighbours. take a look around note where the local star players are... do they have moons at the local planet? if they have no moon generally they dont have a significant fleet there(generally) if they do you can safely assume its gated and therefore a significant hazard. when choosing a target to hit endeavour to watch first try to establish their time zone and sleeping patterns etc. If you attack somone while they sleep a) your more likely to get the hit and b) they cant tell anyone to hit your return. Always check ostat before launching for their fleet strength . Assume in all cases its a trap until you know it cant be, but thats not to say be cowardly and never act. If you invest the time learning their paterns and fleetstrength your risks reduce dramatically. If attacking anyone in a top 5 ally assume they have friends who may be able to hit your return. Consider your risks vs your gains how much you stand to lose how much to gain and the percieved odds of it going right and how much deut you stand to lose if you have to recall or how many ships may be destroyed on your return. Typically a basic 20% hof only requires a small section of your fleet to get. These are wonderful and safe. they are safe for several reasons 1 you only send a small section of fleet so your losses cant be to significant in the event of ninja or return hit. 2 no one will hit 30% of your fleet on a return hit because they would have to send a massive fleet to ensure you didnt use the remainder of your fleet to ninja, so that meens spending 3-7mil deut for maybe 20 mil profit... which isnt worth it AND they wont get the debris cause you will have all your recs easily over 1k at this stage of the game at your fleets return destination so you can guarantee that you can cycle 100% debris and the attacker will still suffer some unit losses as well as a massive deut bill for 0 profit... So clearly while it can be done no one would unless it was seriously personal. when doing attacks you can play with launch speeds to try to make the calcs harder for them. This is only of limited value. If the person see's the attack within a few mins of it being launched calculating the travel speed and subsequent return time is trivial... thats not to say dont do it BUT try to watch the gal view and launch when you think they have been afk for 15 mins. You want them to not see the attack for 20 or so mins which then creates several possible launch speeds and return times. after saying how good basic 20%ers are now the warning they are also the most common ninja baits so again I remind everyone ostat-check it if you have mobile bases these can be wonderful for getting the biggest and most dangerous advanced hits. As cth said moving a colony into their system meens your attack time becomes somewhere between 28 and 47 mins depending on fleet used and engine techs. this pretty much guarantees your safe return from the hit. the best way to do this is to plan it watch the target for a while know when they fleetsave and when approx they have fleet return. move in after they have gone to sleep so the colony arrives while they are asleep immediately deploy to the new colony do not probe from the new colony incase they are online. have someone else probe them or probe yourself from wherever you normally probe them from. Try for slot 15 as often they wont see it in the gal view if they dont scroll down. if you know quite wel when the fleet returns wait dont launch, wait for em to get up check the game and go have a shower then hit in 30 mins cross your fingers.... or perhaps launch blindly to arrive shorty after their expected return in the hopes they log in late and you guessed right. Or do a df catch . now the other side of the coin... doing this is also has one very very serious risk... after you are done successful or not you have to go back home to a moon...and heres the trouble, lets say a star has been informed by your target that your fleet is now on a non moon colony under one of their phalanx`s you have to deploy back to your moon they can then scan the planet your leaving and watch you heading to the moon once you get to shortest time they can launch at you(you being on the way back to your moon on deploy mission) they do... not to hit you...but because they know you are online... at this point they start phalanxing the planet you are leaving every 6 secs or so... the moment your fleet dissapears from their scan they press printscreen which tells them what time your deply will return to the colony then the second star member hits the return or maybe ths same star guy has enough fleet to hit you both sides on his own... now this sounds scary but is one of the hardest things ingame to organise so it probably wont happen but I have to point it out heck I did exaclty this to boyster months ago, it can be done. activity look for it everywhere always check all nine planets use sheepro its pretty up to date. remember moons do NOT show activity so a player can launch fleets or have them return to a moon and NO activity will show... when a player logs in activity always shows at the homeplanet so always look there. when hitting moons loaded with res expect a ninja but go for it anyway they can be so profitable... compare your esp reports on the same player look to see if the res changes on a moon any change indicates a probable ninja as moons dont generate res. also many players stuff up and look in the gal view from their moon and spend 10 deut... look for it, it has saved me many times. sometimes its best to attack with overkill so that you cant be ninjad and this is ok as long as you dont use more than 50% of your fleet. this topic has barely been scratched and should be divided into seperate threads in my opinion perhaps a thread on profiling players another on attack strategies another on co ordinated hits another on fsing how to not to and how to catch everyone else and I guess another just on general ingame trivia ie invisible debris fields, decoy fleets, unlimited storage etc etc but its like 3.40 am and I'm way too tired to keep going just now :cha (18): anyway appologies for how random this post is and how directionless the info is but I think theres a few bits and pieces that should encourage some good strategic convo Ince
  11. Hey I just wanted to start a thread to say CONGRATS! to cyclops on breaking the million point barrier Way to go man great achievement keep on pushing lets see if I can beat you to the 2 mil mark heh
  12. yep gogo is on the money also I guess maybe not at this point in your game but later getting at least 1 rip will save you millions and millions of deut as the base speed of a dstar is so tiny that the consumption becomes negligable particualry if you fleetsave to your own debris field
  13. This topic interests me cause networking and security are what I'm studying at uni My advice to katran is to use zonealarm or another free reliable one is tiny personal firewall. Both provide excellent protection on a per system level. People that use nat/pat routers have by default a built in firewall, and so dont "have" to run personal firewalls... Basically a router takes one public ip address and shares it with many private addresses within the home lan. When a computer in the lan requests some information from an external site the router takes note of the machine requesting the data and where its request is going to. the router then waits for a return packet from the "noted" destination to route back to the requesting computer... so what this meen is that unsolicted packets of data ie 99% of all forms of internet attack are unsolicted packets attemting to gain access to exposed ports, cant get in. when a packet hits a router the router looks in its routing table to see who requested that packet when there is no entry in the routing table the packet gets dropped and never makes it inside the network. Thus routers are very cool But this doesnt meen you shouldnt use a personal firewall... Nowadays our computers are more often infected by trojan style adware and spyware, typically this happens when you download and install trial/shareware etc or almost definately in "freeware". These programs typically use system resources collect various forms of information and attempt to transmit that information back to base so to speak... This is where personal firewalls become essential. Programs like zonelalarm etc while being somewhat noisy and annoying are also invaluable in showing you a trojan horse program dialing back home. when the programs attempt to communicate you are prompted asking if its ok for the program to send data out. I cant tell you how many times I have installed something then had zonealarm jump up and let me know I just made a mistake... So yeah long post short I reccomend that everyone use a personal firewall even when behind nat/pat routers and especially if using wireless
