  1. Ahoy! I made a BFG seraphim a while back, and I finally got around to grinding her up to 75. Now that Concentration is mastered, I can now start using Warding Energy. Now, for the most part, I think I understand how WE works, with regards to absorption, damage mitigation, recharge rates and the like. However, I'm really torn as to which mods I should choose for it. The build I'm following recommends 3 different combinations, depending on playstyle. At first, I had my heart set on force field/force field/Resource, but after doing some research, I'm finding that the reflection mods and block are actually quite a bit better than I initially thought. Fact is, most of my CA regen times are in a good spot right now, and I can compensate for the rest with regen on hit. I've never seen the point in eating a lot of runes for CAs (excluding buffs and the like), because it seems almost impossible to get regen time under control beyond a couple levels. As a result, I don't expect I'll be needing Resource all that much, and with RT Lore, I expect I'll have a fair bit of damage mitigation with Block further down the line. As for reflection, I've always been iffy about picking mods that add reflection to buffs, because I'm not particularly fond of relying on chance as a means of defence. However, it would seem that the reflect chance will be quite high at higher CA levels, though I did read somewhere that diminishing returns would kick in. Thus, is there anyone who has experience with WE at higher levels? My biggest obstacle right now is that I have no clue how most of these numbers will scale at higher levels, and I don't quite have the patience to level up this character to 100-150+ only to find out that I should have gone with something else.
  2. The simplest and quickest way to check what Silver_fox said is to press F9. Unless I changed the button mapping myself at some point, that should be the quicksave button.
  3. Ah, that explains it. I've mainly been playing with the sound off. With the heat we've had these past few days, the basement is the only place that's bearable, while my desktop is on the second floor. Thus, I've been playing Sacred while watching TV, and often with other members of my family present for similar reasons. As a result, I keep it muted to help focus on the TV and to avoid distracting them. As for the dragon, I started fighting him, died once or twice, and I then decided to just reject the Orc's offer, killed him, then entered the town.
  4. Currently, I'm on my way to Braverock. I had a hard time with the desert, particularly the long trek to that battlefield way down south. My defenses are as follows: 373 physical, 168 fire, 83 magic and 44 poison. I'm starting to think (based on what you guys have said) that I've been approaching this game too much like I would Sacred 2, where scaling is such that I can keep progressing on the main quest without really running into any trouble. It sounds to me like I should be grinding a bit more. So, SX, how/where does the game indicate the defenses I am lacking?
  5. Ahoy! I recently started playing Sacred, after having played Sacred 2. Sacred is one of only a few games (in my Steam library) that my laptop can run at max without being taxed too much. Anyway, I've taken a liking to the Vampiress. I made a melee vampiress on Silver difficulty. Been using the "Permanent-melee" build in the Vampiress guide section. The problem I have encountered is that I seem to take a lot of damage, and therefore lose HP very quickly. At level 23, I believe my overall resistance value is a bit over 600, of which 350-ish is physical (I'm writing from memory). I'm using sword and shield, and I've made to keep my gear up to date with the higher protection values I can find. I've socketed 3 runes to get 9% lifesteal, but I'm not dealing enough damage yet for it to really be effective. Skill-wise, I've been investing a bit into Armor Lore and Constitution, with all points going to Physical regeneration to offset sun damage. It's bad enough that I've been chugging potions constantly. If I don't have at least 10-20 potions on me, I'm pretty much screwed when spending any extended amount of time away from a town. In short, I am wondering whether this is fairly normal for such a build, or if there is more I could be doing. In particular, I must have died almost a dozen times at around level 6-7 to goblins. I think my attack value wasn't very high, so I could barely hit them, and couldn't kill them fast enough to stay alive.
  6. It helps a little, though I already knew that some aspects of this build would be late-blooming, such as Warding Energy. I managed to get past the Canarch without too much trouble, because I found two (identical) spears with much higher damage than anything I've found so far, and they have a +3 to all CAs, which gave AW the necessary punch to make a dent in the Canarch's HP bar. Another question: is AW dependent on the attack value? At times it seems to miss a lot, and sometimes it seems to hit almost every time. It might also be my imagination, but I'd swear that it also varies based on the weapon I'm using.
  7. Ahoy! I made a caster seraphim a few weeks ago that I've been working on. So far, this has been the most difficult build I've tried so far; I'm having a lot of trouble with it. I've been following the Celestial Technobabe guide: http://darkmatters.org/forums/index.php?/topic/11911-sacred-2-guide-celestial-technobabe-by-soldats/ I'm currently at level 34, and I'm going up against the Canarch. Aside from the first story boss (his name escapes me), I've been struggling with bosses. Octogolamus in particular took me 4-5 tries, and when finally I did beat him, it took me over 10 minutes non-stop, along with countless concentration potions (to allow me to more or less spam Archangel's Wrath). Earlier today, I went up against Xanthiar, and had a similar experience. It was a tad easier because I have two rings with 0.2s regen per hit, so AW allowed me to shorten my cooldowns considerably. I had to cast two Hallowed Restorations for every Radiant Pillar, with AW's in-between to cut down cooldowns. Equipment-wise, I'm using regular loot that I've found so far. I have a few set pieces, but nothing spectacular. I have two weapons with -13% regen times on them, but I'd rather use a regular sword I found, since it gives AW higher base damage. I haven't eaten many runes, since I wanted to keep my cooldowns fairly short. Does anyone have any advice? Is there something I might be doing wrong? I was thinking I could perhaps start eating a few more runes from my skills. I assume that, most regen bonuses being percentages, there must be a point at which regen times stop increasing substantially with every level. I think my highest CA (not count HR) is at level 5; I think it might be RP.
  8. Thanks for the responses. It's good to know that this sorts itself out. It makes sense considering that my melee High Elf saw an increment of 0.5, but earlier when I tried another rune, I think she gained 0.7, which I found to be a bit odd.
  9. Ahoy! I started playing a few weeks ago, having a blast so far. Anyway, I've noticed that my High Elf's Grand Invigoration is only growing in increments of 0.1 levels each time I eat a rune. She is currently level 36, but her GI is only at around 17-18 (as I recall). However, Crystal Skin (and indeed, just about everything buff I've used on other characters) is leveling just fine at 1 level per rune. I tried doing a quick search, and found a possible link to level penalties. However, I'm not entirely sure if this is indeed the problem. If it is, I would appreciate someone giving a quick rundown of how it works. The same is already starting to happen to my melee High Elf (currently level 7), though she's gaining around 0.5+ levels per rune. Any ideas?
  10. In this case, "temporary files" is a misnomer: the files are stored in a folder called "GamersGate temporary files", but they are still there. There's only 3 folders, one of which contains what appears to be an Adobe Reader 9 installer, another one contains all of the patches for Fallen Angel (since the base version was 2.0.2, which made an enormous difference when I realized that my game wasn't patched) and is aptly named "patches". The last one is "Autodata" which contains 3 files of different formats none of which I recognize. More importantly, none of those are .exe's. The only application is called "Autorun". Activating it opens a Sacred 2 - Ice & Blood window that gives a few options such as Install, Update, Readme, Adobe Reader, Sacred 2 Homepage and Exit. The background depicts a man in red-ish armour, so presumable the Dragon Mage. Clicking Install gives me the window that tells me that Windows cannot find "setup.exe". There's a similar file in the Fallen Angel folder, and it also opens a launcher-type window for Fallen Angel. The odd thing is, Fallen Angel also comes with a windows installer, which is strangely absent from the Ice & Blood files. There's a chance that perhaps this file is contained in the Fallen Angel files... but that wouldn't make much sense. At this point, the only thing left to try is to re-download the expansion, then have the installation launch directly after the download is complete. I couldn't do it this time because I hadn't patched Fallen Angel at all. However, if I do this, I'll have to wait until the end of this billing month, since we've probably already used more than half of our limit, and there's 2 weeks to go.
  11. As I mentioned above, I got the game via GamersGate, since Steam didn't have it (though they added it days after I checked). In order to download games from GG, you need to download an installer, one that doesn't like antiviruses. I found out the hard way by downloading Fallen Angel (13GB) only to find out that my files were corrupted. I made sure to download Ice & Blood without my antivirus, but I had to save the temporary files to my computer, since I hadn't fully patched the game. Now, when I try to launch the installer, it tells me that "setup.exe could not be found". I of course tried launching as an administrator and in compatibility mode, but to no avail. A google search didn't reveal anything, as most people experience problems with activation, not installation.
  12. Thanks for the responses. I decided to go with Celestial Focus after all, but I'm gonna go with what lujate suggest and go for hallowed restoration. I'm assuming I'll want the modification that increases regeneration. Otherwise, I don't see how it could really be any good. essjayehm, your answer is exactly what I was looking for. Most builds aren't too precise with regards to skill spending; most only bother telling you which ones to master, which ones not to. Thus, I don't how high I should shoot for the ones I won't be mastering. And wolfie, I was definitely planning on moving up in difficulty. I'm moving through the campaign fairly quickly in order to get a sense of the various areas. I'll be taking it slower in subsequent playthroughs. Then again, this Seraphim is probably my 5th or 6th character so far. I've deleted a few whose builds I botched. For example, I've had at least two High Elves, one of which I deleted (she was my first character, put my points all over the place), and the other is now on the backburner, since this Seraphim build is so much more fun. I'm usually a bit of an altaholic, so I'm trying to avoid playing the Dryad and Temple Guardian for now, as they're the only two I haven't tried yet (can't get the expansion to install, so Dragon Mage is out of the question). I always have a hard time sticking to one single character, because I always see a different class do something and I think "Hey, I want to do that too". I can't count how many characters I've created (and later deleted) in Oblivion.
  13. Ahoy! I started playing this game a few weeks ago, after discovering it back in December (I had to download it from GamersGate, and I didn't have enough bandwidth left after the first download became corrupted). I'm loving it so far, but I need some help with my Seraphim's skill selection. She is currently level 25, and en route to meet Mer-Kill, on Silver difficulty. She cuts through enemies like a flaming sword through butter. I am currently using the melee build found here: http://darkmatters.org/forums/index.php?/topic/9194-pure-melee-seraphim-tutorial/ Couldn't figure out how to create a link. Anyway, I'm looking to replace Celestial Focus with something else, as I have no intention of using Radiant Pillar. I was thinking of taking Sword Weapons instead, as I'm quite fond of swords, regardless of how good other weapon types are. However, I already have Dual Wield, so I'm worried that Sword Weapons would be too redundant. I'm also curious as to how many skills I'll be able to master. I have a level 35-ish High Elf (currently in the swamps), and I noticed that I started getting 4 skill points per level. I just want to get an idea of how high I'll be able to get most of my skills before hitting 200 (assuming I ever actually get there, which I'm not sure I ever will). Thanks in advance.
