How did this work out Zett ... were you able to create build without too much lag , death and destruction
gogo
Nope, I tried out the Wood Elf instead. Multiple hit + loopy arrow (whatever it's called). Pretty strong build so far. But yes, pity about the Wind Mage. Without lag I can even do the Valley in Underworld. With lag, I die immediately :') (Or it just crashes.)

We used to socket rings with huge percentages of Widd on it ... spend hours at the merchants switching tween them to find a single ring at a time with percentages of thirty or thirty five on it? This was online in those days and so you'd have a group of players online tween the two stalls *shopping* for hours.
Widd rings were very rare, but if you were lucky to be able to find or shop them you could socket them ...with spectacular damage but also with your HP flashing at close to zero if you wanted to really pull out the damage from the highest risk at lowest level of HP

Gogo, is it possible to self host a server?

Chance for open wounds applies to enemies, not yourself.
It's a chance to inflict additional bleeding damage over time.
Thanks! So basically WIDD and CFOW don't interact with each other.

Hi Guys
I was wondering, what is the difference between Wounds Increase Damage Dealt and Chance to Open Wounds?
With WIDD, the idea seems to be pretty simple: If your health goes down, your damage goes up. However, I don't know what Chance to Open Wounds means. Does WIDD have a % probability of occuring? And this is the chance to open wounds? Are WIDD and CTOW even related? I haven't made a true WIDD build and I am not sure whether CTOW goes hand in hand with it.
With other modifiers, it kind of makes sense how this is used. If you have lifeleech / damage increases your health, and you have damage per hit to your own health, you can have the two cancel each other out, but still use WIDD in the process. As your health goes down, it gives the WIDD bonus, and then lifeleech gives you back the lost hit points. But how does CTOW come into the picture?
Thanks

That sucks. My mage was (uhm is) basically a one hit wonder. But the super frailty means I just can't survive the lag levels in Niobium. Looks like I'll have to play with my Fire Mage more... :P
It's a pity though, places like the Orc deserts are fine as I can sort of anticipate the lag.
I wonder if it is possible to fix it with something like OpenGL.
I guess the code for Sacred is not available, would have been cool to read some of the source code.

Orla's builds were, as long as I can remember always super laggy. In fact this single build could drop entire servers full of players on it in the old days with everyone fleeing to another server if they heard that high-pitched whining sound of calamity
Yah, is super OP... but too hard on the community

Hi guys
I have a Niobium GoW Battlemage and I ended up using Orla's Spear basically exclusively as it just works really well both with GoW and Whirlwind.
However, I noticed back in Gold that things get a bit laggy when there are a lot of enemies. It kind of kept getting worse, but not enough to make it unplayable. If I don't get killed, I don't really worry and Orla mostly kills everything togething with one GoW, and sometimes a few in sequence close the a group leader.
The problem is in Niobium that the mage becomes pretty frail (I am still waiting to get some upgraded Amarris and better socket items) and the lag with Orla is now so bad that the game is unplayable for any difficult parts, especially Underworld where the Sakkara Demons are an easy target for poison damage... Except, everything lags and whatever lurks around with the Sakkaras are basically poison proof and just kill me once the game freezes up with the Orla shock rings all over the place.
Is there anything I can do about the lag with Orla? Is it a well known issue?

I installed Sacred 2 from steam about a week ago and installed CMP160 directly after and it runs smoothly. The only thing I did was restarting after each step and starting Sacred 2 once before installing CMP. Is anything not working?
Seems like it's not starting up at all.

The Underworld portals are shown as the RED circles at the map.
The cave close to that merchant and combo master is where you enter the Dryad forest when running that campaign.
For the Dryad forest it's close behind the Dryad village of Esotopia, a bit out of the way for those who only want to do the Underworld campaign, but easy to find for those who like to explore.
Edit: There isn't a portal in the cave.

Hey guys
My second post was supposed to say that I figured out only later that the portals are the slab ones.
There is in fact a FAKE portal close to the merchant and combo master (to the right) and then further to the right is the actual portal!
Took me a while to figure this out.

For those who find this... Sacred Underground portals looks different from normal Ancaria Sacred ones—they are slabs with the logo on it. Portals that looks like the normal portals are not portals.

Mm, I don't know about Win 10. I'm still on Win 7 and when I had trouble starting it up for the first time years ago I just needed to update the nvidia physx driver from here:
https://www.nvidia.com/en-us/drivers/physx/9_10_0513/physx-9-10-0513-driver/
Then just add the community patch and you're golden.
I hope that's the problem for your friend too, but I don't know about Win10. Good luck!
Does the community patch help for startup issues too?

Hey Guys
Is there a standard guide for getting the Steam version of Sacred 2 Gold to work these days? A lot of the questions are from a few years ago, and a lot of the advice on Steam is not a walkthrough guide. With Sacred 1 I could use dgVoodoo and followed the steps and everything worked.
My friend downloaded the game and is trying to get it to start up.
Would probably be Windows 10, but I can check, could be 7 or 8 too.

Hi everyone
I tried to activate the portal in the Dryad Forest (near the combo master and salesman), but it doesn't activate.
It's my first time running underground and I don't know all the portals.
Is there any reason why it would not activate? I don't think I have found or activated any other portals.
Thanks!

Delighted you liked his guide, Zhurong... Csaszar LOVED Sacred and published a number of guides here... he was also lots of fun to play with in HC servers with this game came out.
Enjoy the forums, and welcome to DarkMatters!

I based my GoW Battlemage on Csaszar's guide. I happened upon Orla and then crazy things happened. It's way overpowered at level 60-70 in Gold and kills dragons with one shot (if you stand really close). It even kills different types of dragons with one shot... I'm running Gold now to see what happens in Plat...

Great guide!! I have a small suggestion for an addition to it though..... I personally have gotten more icons from opening chests and barrels then from quest rewards or drops. The rest of what you said still applies of course... you need to do it at a low level in the Bellevue and Silver Creek areas and all the rest that you said. But for a few examples I have gotten an icon maybe four different times from the chest next to the Wolf Eyes wolf and I got one just the other day from the chest next to the farmer's house that gives you the Forest Ranger quest.
I've noticed that the starting area for the Seraphim seems to have this aspect. That very first crate has given me a musical instrument I think 3 times and my Seraphim has only been there probably 6 or 7 times, including games that I discarded or died. Hardcore I guess is not a thing anymore, I play SP anyway, but survival bonus *is* a thing. I think it was 2 flutes and 1 harp.

However, I've only build one melee Dwarf using the Hard Hit CA as major combat ability, as I found that the combination of Cannon and Flamethrower is by far the most effective one for killing. Especially when using certain items of the Thar Eros set.:
1) Nope, Dwarves are set on using one handed weapons + shield, two handed weapons or pistols / muskets.
2) I've never used the "Greed" CA as with smithing you get the ability to put a magic find smithing option in your weapons and armour. And given you got a lot more sockets to use as getting that CA up to the level of a "perma CA", that socketing item is - imho - a lot more useful.
3 / 4) To use an item that have a certain restriction - like Fadalmar's Axe and Aarnum's Sword - simply socket a ring with another higher level requirement into one of the slots of the weapon.
By doing that the required skill will be "over written" by the requirement of the socketed ring.
So in your case that would mean using a ring having at least 11 concentration as requirement to make sure you can use that axe.
However!
Concentration isn't a very useful skill for a Dwarf, as Dwarven Lore and Dwarven tech decrease the regen time of your CA's a lot faster as Concentration would. Therefore I think it's a much better idea to stick to Axe lore, socket as many Fadalmar rings as possible into the Axe and put all you can't socket into one of your ring slots.
You can also socket one of the Fadalmar rings into Aarnum's blade to override the required Sword lore, thus preventing you to take that skill.
And two more tips:
1) Don't focus too much at the use of sets. While a set offers a nice bonus in certain skills, using parts of multiple sets may actually be more beneficial as you would increase those particular skills you need most.2) Although Faldamar's axe is nice with its fire damage, the best axe for an Axe 'n Board fighter is "Thain's Axe". Not only offers is some fire damage, it also offers a huge increase in Weapon Lore. And with WL being one of the skills setting how much damage you do, any free increase of it is something you should take.
Thorin
Thorin, thank you so much for the detailed response!
Looks like I will have to copy my trusty dwarf Mithril into a Forge King... I didn't know you could forge magic find. If I share the items with my other toons it would make hunting for greens easier.
But, I understand your point about greens. I am a bit sentimental and like having a set, but I've realised like you say uniques + selected greens are generally better. Two exceptions for me are full Amarri's for my GoW Orla Battlemage to get secret damage + shock magic damage with Orla's Spear... and (still looking for this though) full Byleth for my Fire Spiral Battlemage to get Burning Bone.
I share between my toons via local multiplayer saves, but it would have been cool if this game was still more active in multiplayer online.
Do you have any builds that use Aarnum's Blade well? The trap skill seems a bit useless for me if you have a high damage build. I guess it's for more specialised builds? Someone mentioned a Flying Demon Aarnum combination, but I can't think of a good use for Aarnum's Blade that really uses it's somewhat odd set bonus.
Thanks again!

The idea's good, and I think it'll work. My experience with Orla's is that most builds that run it never have any problems running the VOT. In fact, you'd probably even find peeps who'd say that running a build with Orlas makes it so easy that you may even get bored of it! :cha (18):
I'm confident with your skill picks, you'd have no problem with any of the regens, and if you're clever, you could even get a more more levels to your boost by using weapon slots. And if you're able to squeeze a goodish amount of crit...you're laughing. Orla's in busy servers is lethal to other players though ^^. If you see a whole bunch of peeps leave to run to other servers while screaming out in fright...Orla's...Orla's! Well, lol...you know why
Good luck, and of course...be careful.
gogo
p.s. I'd love to see some pics of this in action against niob mobs in the VOT. Give us seraphim fans something to be proud of!
I hope I get a resurrection badge, but I've build an Orla Gust of Wind Battlemage and Dragon's die in 1 or 2 casts... I don't think I can find a way to get my Fire Spiral Battlemage to ever match my GoW Battlemage now...

Hey Everyone
I've been trying out the dwarf, and I am quite fond of the little big fellow.
I have a few questions though:
1. Does the Dwarf not have dual wielding at all? I am using Fadalmar's Axe and two would be sweet...
2. Some people mention bugs with Greed, but it seems to be working well for me. Is there anything else about Greed that I should know? I like harvesting greens for my other toons...
3. Any other tips on stats or builds? I have read about the Dwarven Steel + Dwarven Armor + War Cry combo, but don't seem to need it yet (I am just finishing up on Silver). I would like to drop Axe Lore, but I want to use Fadalmar, which is a problem since I need to socket all three rings, but now without dual wield I have no trick to wear Fadalmar without Axe Lore. Is it possible to bypass this without dual wielding 2 Fadalmars?
4. The same question holds for Aarnam's Blade... Am I forced to take Sword Lore?

I followed this guide mostly for my new character... Ghost is now at level 50 and indeed fire demons are fun to kill. I am considering adding meteor storm as a second attack, but not sure if I am going to. My last 2 skills are unfilled; waiting to decide what to pick (and apparently it's not necessary to pick something)... Except of course for the irritation of skeletons. Fire spiral works well with them so maybe I should pick Fire Magic...
I don't know what VOT is though? Is it in normal Ancara or in Underworld?
PS: I don't have full Amarri yet, so that may help with the skeles.

Hey Guys
What do the different socket colours mean? I've noticed some are grey and some are red. I think there maybe orange?
I seem to recall that rings and ammys can be socketed in different places, but I've been (re)playing Sacred 1 now for a while and I just socket ammys in everything and it seems to work.

Two questions.
1. Do you change the waterform in slot 1 to meteor with a hot key?
2. Would you die if you got a hit, or is there a way that you prevent getting killed with such low health? I know waterform helps to make creatures not see you, but I assume this is a specific tactic where you expect no hits on your toon...
