Thanks, I will tell my wife and she can look for herself. It's her wonderful new texhnology, meanwhile I will go back to my umpteen years old and obsolete WinXP laptop which still plays all the good games without any problems.

I had a look at that version and it is the new HD version, which has rubbish reviews and is absolutely basic with none of the expansion packs. It would be like playing Sacred2 with only the initial elf lands available and none of the rest of the map. Oh well my wife may have to settle for less interesting games then.

I am wondering if anyone out there might be able to help me by directing me to an app that lets me play windows games on an android device? My wife just bought a tablet running android 4.4 'kitkat' and after searching for games for it found an article from 2011 about an app being developed that lets you play HoMM3 on android and that Sacred might be possible too. However the links from that article lead to a dead end saying that that app had been abandoned but that others (unspecified) were still in development. Does anyone know of anything that is available?

Have you ever tried using Virtual XP Mode? I have numerous older communications programs that simply will not work on Win 7. I was creating dual boots for all our laptops, but that became a hassle switching between the two constantly while at work. Once I loaded up Virtual XP all my older XP programs work with no issues Nope it's not much use because almost all programs worked once on the Win7 computer in compatability mode, it was just the install programs (which seem to be 16bit despite programs being 32bit) that wouldn't even work in compatability mode. But I have just picked up a 'new' 2nd hand laptop with Win7 64bit and was thinking how to run my stuff on it. So far my only option seems to be the old tried and trusted XP laptop and copy across using flashdrive.

So how do you do with the infamous 64bit system can't install 32 bit games due to them having 16bit installers? I had allsorts of problems when I was trying a Win7 64bit machine. Got some to work by installing onto my WinXP laptop then copied across via flashdrive, not perfect but worked sort of, although a lot of my stuff just refused point blank to work under Win7. Had hopes Win8 might work better, but after seeing that it was a Metro system I abandoned any thoughts of bothering with it.

LOL Say no more.. All you had to say was "Packard Bell".. Packard Bell systems in the US had a seriously bad rep for being piece of crap. From Wikipedia: It goes on to say Packard Bell stopped selling PCs in the US in 2000. Back in the day, we computer savvy people used to call them Pukard Hells. Sounds like in the last 15 years, not much has changed.. They still suck.. Anyhow.. For the money you spent on that kind of system, you can probably build your own desktop OR you can simply buy a slightly used refurbished laptop like the one I've got here. It set me back about $265 USD and positively rocks. It's a Lenovo (formerly IBM) 15.6" laptop with touch screen, 6 GB of RAM, 500 GB hard drive and Windows 8.1. Been using it since Christmas 2014 and works like a charm. That hardly explains why just installing a different copy of Win7 fixed all the problems though does it? And considering the recent aricles warning about the unsecure "backdoors" built into Lenovos, are you really sure you should advise biuying one? I am looking at a rebuilt laptop now, and considering whether I want it using Linux rather than Windows. I had a good look at Win8.1 and found it to be pretty much a waste of time since almost all of the "improvements" are in areas I am never going to use. I browse the internet, and I play games, period. I avoid Facebook, Twitter and all social networking like the plague, so what does Win8 etc offer me apart from incompatability with almost all my old and cherished software, nearly all of which it appears will run under Wine?

I did and was told "bloody Win7, always have people bringing in Win7 machines with software issues.". They took the machine back and refunded me. I later learned that they solved the issue eventually by wiping hardrive and installing a different copy of Win7. OK.. So.. This system wasn't a name brand box (I.e. Dell, HP, Lenovo, etc...) but some "custom" job... Sounds like the people involved were using some questionable hardware. In my experience, Windows 7 is rock solid.. The only issues I've had were with flakey hardware that was on it's last leg. All copies of Windows 7 are the same - even between the various editions, the core of the OS is identical. The only difference is what features are unlocked by the product key... At least you got your money back.. It was a Packard Bell! Returned after many phone calls to both the tech dept of the store that sold it and to Acer helpline (They have taken over Packard Bell now). They told me to return via the store I bought it from, and the "Tech Guys" instore help desk are the ones who made the comments about Win7.

Was made in 2003/4 I believe. Egad... That system IS rather ancient by modern standards. How old is the Windows 7 system? The good news - that laptop might be upgradeable. Tho, to be honest, you'd be better off investing your duckets in something a bit newer. The laptop I have has Win 8.1, 6 GB RAM, latest generation I3 chip, Got it used for about $250 and hardly weighs anything. Oh.. Its also got a touch screen, tho the keyboard is permanently attached. The bad news is that that laptop IS already upgraded to the max, lol. I did have a desktop with Win7, but it repeatedly BSOD'd (black screen) even after factory reset with no software but windows on it! That's why I am still with my little XP laptop, because it works everytime, is compatible with virtually everything I use and has never ever given me any problems. Built like a tank! Accidentally dropped it once and cracked parquet floor tile. Laptop not even scatched.

Windows 10:) Hell I am still using Windows XP as my system can't manage Win7!! Besides which most of my favourite software and games struggle or won't work under Win7 and definitely not under 64bit. I have a Win7 machine but have to use my WinXP 32bit machine to install stuff then transfer it to my Win7 64bit machine via flashdrive. So what is wrong with XP? Win7 uses over double the resources of WinXP so God know how much Win10 will use. Dang newfangled ideas. I agree with the system annalyst who told me that the 2 most frightening words in the english language are "NEW" and "IMPROVED"!!!

I'm just an old softie and love Christmas Island. It's not the best place for hacking and slashing, but I always enjoy myself there and it always cheers me up when mass slaughter gets repetitive.

Don't forget the 'X' series as well. "X-Beyond the Frontier", "X-Tension", "X2 The Threat", "X3 Reunion" and "X-Rebirth" (I don't recommend that last one though). No fleet battles but multiple ships can be owned at once and set on follow or given set orders for trading routes, etc. whle you pilot either a trader, a scout, one of the combat class vessels, or a supersized Carrier/Mass transporter. You can also build your own spacestations, build up a intergalactic trading empire or do anything you want. The whole premise of the game is summed up in the series catchphrase "Trade, Fight, Build, Think!" And what's more it is all in 3D and in my opnion, the best 4X space games since Elite!

Yes it is a prequel. The technology is more advanced because it was from a "Golden Age" before everything went to pieces. The same way you see people in post-apocalyptic films living in medieval conditions in the ruins of cities like London etc. Just imagine how medieval life would be now if an apocalypse happend and most of the benefts of civillisation were lost. That's what happened between the two Sacreds and if you watch the intro video from the Blind Guardian he asks whether you will save Ancaria or cast into the fiery abyss? Well guess what, someone did cast it into the abyss and now hundreds of years later, Sacred 1 is what things have become.

Do you remember the first iteration of HC for this game...where if you died, your body would just lie there out in the cold, and the call would ring out to the servers, someone would have to bring in a high level toon of theirs to pick up your stuff and, cuz they were usually nice, would give it to your next created character? That was cool gogo I never went down that route Gogo, I really did play hardcore. When I died I literally started from scratch. I still do play hardcore in every game I can, which has earned me a reputation for being a very strange in certain MMOs I still play.

Aah nostalgia! But mine goes back even further to the great days of the original Sacred and the hardcore servers. They were the days and were my very first introduction to MMOs. If it wasn't for the great people I met there when I first timidly went on line and died almost immediatley I wouldn't even own a computer anymore let alone still be playing RPGs. They rallied around a newbie that no-one knew and took me into the family, made equipment so I could survive, mentored me until I knew how to play the game and were always ready to stop what they were doing and come running when someone needed help. Great days and great people who will live in my memory forever. Believe it or not, the very first person I ever spoke to in any online game was Carolyn_Hacker! She introduced herself to me ingame, asked was I a new player and when I said yes, she called in 'the family' and I was hooked on the game and the people!

It's well worth it even when it's not on sale so take full advantage of this boys and girls!

Sounds like life caught up with them. Life catches up with us all, but that doesn't mean we have to go along willingly. It has to drag me kicking and screaming every inch of the way! Apparently although I am trapped in the wrecked body of a 56 year old, my wife reliably informs me that I am no longer a 12year old, I have now devolved to a 7 year old. I justed started playing a lovely game called "Might and Magic 2: Gates to Another World". Thank Goodness for GOG.com Old game? So what! Have I played it before? Probably, but who cares? You see I just learned one of the great gifts of getting older; When you are senile and your memory is going, you can't remember all these wonderful old games and get to enjoy them again just like the first time! WOOHOO!
