  1. World champion in team basketball this weekend in Japan: RSV Lahndill Wetzlar is my birth-town, 50000 people. The rivers Lahn and Dill join in the town. I know most of the players real life, because they share the training rooms with the handball club of my oldest daughter. --- Football is this strange game where you most of the time run with the ball instead kicking it? Why do you call it football while rest of the world is using the world football for soccer? --- With 5 kids and one TV we have to plan what sport to watch carefully. So except olympics or worldchampionships, international soccer or handball games we never watch sport on TV. We have almost no time to watch the sports of our kids when they are doing it. Of cause our favourite teams are the ones our kids are in. And I think it is sad that many sports are not covered by TV at all: Except our 2 year old twins all our kids are doing equestrian vaulting as their primary sport. Our second was state champion with her youth team.- the sport is never shown on TV- do you know what vaulting is at all? When my wife was 16 she and her grandpa won german championships in motorbike with sidecar cross country racing. She was the monkey on the sidecar- the sport is never shown on TV I played goalie in soccer, handball and field hockey. Then at army I learned the fun of the only 4-dimensional team ball game: underwater rugby- never shown on TV We even have a sport all of us are doing, except the twins: combined driving - again never on TV It is a shame that TV dictates what sports are well known and who's athlets are totally overpaid. When I watch chairwheel basketball live at Wetzlar: 2000 visitors, great athmosphere, great fighting, ...
  2. "I know where you parked your car, player" Don't know if this is related: In german soccer stadiums you often hear the fans singing: "Schiri, wir wissen wo dein Auto steht -fahr Bus und Bahn, fahr Bus und Bahn" "Referee, we know were you parked your car - drive bus and train, drive bus and train" Schiri is short for Schiedsrichter = referee.
  3. Lumen Feedback from the elven Wala character of my daughter: Lumen priestess with full arcane, storm and fire just the foci. The damage versus undeads and t-creatures seems not to be affected by x% damage on equipment, combat discipline, .... Strangly the general damage versus all enemy types is. Probably Testa will do more damage even versus undeads and t-creatures because of this.
  4. My daughter is playing an elf which has divine devotion because of roleplay reasons. She asked if she should keep the skill at just 1 point and what she will win if the skill is at mastery. All I could say was that without mastery the minimum cooldown of a 900s godpower is 180s and with mastery it is 130s. I think DD is a mix of a focus and a lore and each Character-Level a 'rune' is read into the god power. If so, then mastery should give some extra x% damage to the god power because being a lore and some more ca-levels being a focus. Related questions: Deity statues: give they a fixed bonus or a relative bonus depending on the cooldown modified by DD. What will a statue do to a Godpower with a 130s cooldown? Doubt it, but does anyone have a character which really uses DD? Site note: We can't play online because of only short wave radio upload. So we play Lan and can modify god powers a bit. We are currently modifying them in a way that they all will be 900s cooldown without DD. Each godpower has a two parts: a one time effect and a mini-buff lasting 180s. For example Lumen is modified to have its normal one time effect and adds some intelligence for 3 minutes.
  5. Do you want to have spells.txt untouched in CM-patch? At home we play with a slightly patched spells.txt: horse combat arts have no regeneration times, just higher start-cooldown which lowers with riding skill to allow more frequent using lumen god power: in addition to its normal working it works as a sort of minibuff. It has an extra effect lasting for 3 minutes: adding it's ca level to intelligence. It started when my daughter (trying to play a priestess) said that god powers are currently quite useless. With divine devotion the 900s powers will regenerate in minimal 180s/130s without/with mastery. So with mastery you will be able to have overlapping effects, but maximal 2. Do you think it is a good idea to make god powers a bit more useful this way? Which mini-buffs you would like to see for lumen, testa? God powers which have lasting effects already can't have a mini-buff in addition. At least I do not know how to add. Kybele: Perhaps keep the relative to max-health one time heal but make the healing over time smaller by a factor 10 but lasting for 3 minutes? Ker: summoning a weaker demon for 3 minutes (perhaps dragon mage protector?) and having ca-level as fixed life leech damage added? Forens: lot less powerful but effect lasting 3 minutes? ca-level/3 reflect chances? Kuan: I am really clueless at this one
  6. The 3 people party at youth club played the character to level 135 in first week of autumn breaks, strangely without a single death. The party consists of: The full 3 aspect dryad of the handicapped boy, named Bokeh. He is a patient and very good photographer and a good joker. Bokeh is the blurred back in a photo and he is the blurred (dustdevil) back of the party. Dehimkawa (Der Himmel kann warten, Heaven can wait) is a celestial seraphim and played by the 14 year old sister of the boy. Wala (german writing of Völva) is the arcane elven Lumen priestess of my daughter. The word Völva is old and means carrier of a magic staff. Völva (also Vala, Spákona) is a shamanic seeress in Norse paganism, and a recurring motif in Norse mythology. So Lumen would probably be the logical choose for a seeress. My daughter asked me about the following: How is divine devotion affecting the combat art level of the god power? Probably mastery in divine devotion will boost the combat art level to higher levels if supported by enough +allSkills? The reason she did divine devotion: if the boy has an epilepsie attack she hopes to finish an enemy really quick with this. She doesn't want to play with a shield because it doesn't fit the theme. So she wanted a skill to try out, which is quite unique and can be left at 1 for a long time. 900s*14.4% = lumen god power every 130s if at mastery and around 300 points.
  7. If you just want mentalism for protection and debuffing: replace mentalism lore by combat discipline. Runes of protection are just physical armour and the lore would just boost the armour values. Combinations are bugged at the dragon mage -you can't change combinations once you did the combat arts in- but you get a lot of damage for all 3 aspects if you take combat discipline. Even a dragon strike might become useful. Dexterity or base defense value. The later can be got from items. 1 point in dexterity is one base defense. In niob 2-3 rings with +allSkills and base defense will reach same value as you get from more dexterity. Hitpoints are just on amulets so taking vitality will perhaps be more useful, allowing more flexible socketing. If you look at the hitchance formula (ToDo: find the link again) you see that base defense is one factor in the equatation and evade is another. The chance that an opponent can hit you is his attack versus your defense and then this chance is modified by evasion. You want both factors low. Do you want to go for the 100% chance to halve regeneration times route?
  8. I did crystal skin mainly because it is easier for newbie (as my daughter was) early on. With 75 storm focus: cascading shroud, icicles and blizzard would be my 3.
  9. Yes. Thats the reason why my polearm-elf and the shield maid of my daughter started with crystal skin and changed to fire skin at higher levels. I got a lot of comments why do you modify both skins and why do you put all points in vitality A variant of the pre-addon Shield Maid, using the changes brought by the addon, is quite impressive: best possible melee and arcane damage fire aspect: 75% of the damage a pure fire elf will do storm aspect: 70% of the damage a pure ice elf will do
  10. Tried a traceroute from university of Giessen while seaching for some old numerical maths magazines: traceroute to eu.sacred2.net (84.201.80.43), 30 hops max, 40 byte packets 1 ro-hrz-cip.uni-giessen.de (134.176.5.1) 0.366 ms 0.430 ms 0.486 ms 2 ro-win.uni-giessen.de (134.176.247.1) 0.732 ms 0.728 ms 0.719 ms 3 xr-gie1-ge9-1.x-win.dfn.de (188.1.49.33) 0.858 ms 0.854 ms 1.096 ms 4 xr-fra1-te1-1.x-win.dfn.de (188.1.144.102) 1.979 ms 2.174 ms 2.315 ms 5 zr-fra1-te0-0-0-0.x-win.dfn.de (188.1.145.190) 2.714 ms 2.710 ms 2.702 ms 6 decix.dts-online.net (80.81.192.149) 2.925 ms 3.544 ms 3.203 ms 7 m10-hf-68.dts-online.net (212.62.68.30) 9.733 ms 9.522 ms 9.711 ms 8 core1.dts-online.net (212.62.68.250) 9.699 ms 9.686 ms 9.669 ms 9 * * * dfn = deutsches Forschungsnetzwerk, german network for science researches. Giessen is 60 kilometres away from frankfurt (fra1), so it is at the blocking part very quick. Lot faster than at work, and a hell of a lot faster than from my home (4800 bit per second shortwave radio upload and satellite download. okay at least the download is fast once the request is answered after some seconds).
  11. Totally forgot this thread: I fixed the buggy horse Combat Arts at least for me, by removing all regeneration times! They start with a slightly higher cooldown now, but the cooldown reduces with higher combat art level. Horse characters proofed to be playable up to gold difficulty. So the idea is quite simple to control the horse regeneration times with their cooldown. So stamina, concentration and so on have no effect on them. Horse-Combat Arts are still spells, so ancient magic, combat discipline, intelligence boost their damage. For roleplay reason we use flame horses because of this. My whole reading into spells.txt and it flags, doing maths for armours and hit chances and so on , was mainly because I promised my daughters that I will try to make horses usable
  12. Depending on how you define easy to play: I did 2 characters for a friend of my daughter who suffers from epilepsie. They were designed for autotargetting combat arts. So if easy = I am no mouse acrobat, I am blind as a mule, ... these would be the characters I would choose.
  13. Perhaps we should really do a list which modifiers on combat arts are boosted by aspect lores. life leech , as in magic coup resistances, as in crystal skin life regeneration, as in barkskin 'sure hits', as in BFG (the one in magic coup will be harder to proof) ... For the hit chance formula: noone came up with an example where it didn't fit. At least till today.
  14. One of my nephews plays a modified version of the shield maiden of our daughter. He started with the AddOn when regeneration per hit was working. The fire monkey is used to reduce casting time, because neither fire nor ice lore are taken. Magic coup is well above it's malus because of Reg per Hit. So it's speed is lowered and casting speed will bring it up again. I consider the fire monkey as a useful buff if you play 3 aspect elves. It gives casting time and fire damage, so it reduces the need to take fire lore. My daughter used it to aggravate enemies and make them run into her kill zone: melee and ice storms. 02. arcane lore [4] [5 if having fun to play a melee hybrid, then shield lore as 6] 03. armour [9] 05. arcane focus [3] [3] 08. concentration [10] [2] 12. ice focus [1] 18. ice lore [2] replace this with combat discipline [1] 25. shield [6] 35. constitution [8] 50. fire focus [7] 65. ancient magic [5] [4] [] are in which order the skills were brought to mastery. In black the shield maiden of my daughter, in red the modified one of my nephew. By pushing ancient magic and combat discipline to mastery quite early damage to all 3 aspects is given.
  15. The barbarian hessian poutine would use pommes frites, Kochkäse (sour cream cheese which is made creamy by adding natron while warming it) and Frankfurter grie Soß (green herb sauce, Frankfurt variant). Czevak, in palatinate: would you replace pommes with Schupfnudeln (finger thick noodles in the shape of an american football, made partly from potatoes) roasted in a pan?
  16. I would vote for the elf. We designed the shield maiden for our daughter just for this reason. Able to play melee and caster,... Even more flexible if exchanging ice lore for combat discipline and using fire monkey as third buff to give casting speed for ice and fire lore.
  17. Just looked at their page. They were formerly known as Neon Studios. They are in Sachsenhausen, a urban quarter of Frankfurt. It is called "das Apfelweinviertel von Frankfurt" - "The apple wine quarter of Frankfurt". So the programmers they will hire need a strong stomach, thats for sure: Apple wine and Handkäse (sour cream cheese) mit Musik (roasted onions). Was the Anno series (1404, 1503, 1602 and 1701) known outside europe/germany ? Wiki claims Anno1404 was named Dawn of Discovery on the american market. I think they converted them for consoles. An article about the star trek browser game (only new english article which I could find quickly) Keen Games doing Startrek- Infinite Space
  18. Anyone knowing of a good dictionary for translating food and drink names? Our au-pair girl has her birthday today. Her parents will be in germany for a week to visit her. I promised her that I will do one of our feared hessian kitchen recipes. Bärlauchschupfnudeln mit Kochkäseschnitzel What is this in english? Kochkäse is a mixture of natron, Handkäse (local sour cream cheese) and Quark. Which is cooked (Kochen) and made creamy by adding natron. The hot Schnitzel will be covered with the creamy and very aromatic Kochkäse. The heat will make it nearly liquid and it builds a layer on the Schitzel. Bärlauch is bear-garlic/ramsons. Schupfnudel are a bit like Gnocci, but in our area are made of cooked potatoes, egg, spices and milled buckwheat. I add fine cut beargarlic to the noodle recipe. So following our ultralong german words rule: Bärlauchschupfnudeln. It are thick fingerlike noodles which are first boiled and then roasted in a pan with some butter. I add a lot of bear garlic. In difference to the above picture our Noodles are green.
  19. We found this picture in the forum about our stepped tandem a week ago: I asked the people at my work if they could imagine to design something similiar last wednesday. We had a handdrive for the tandem from the first owner of the tandem and we just had to modify it a bit. A big kickstand is attached on our tandem. The hand driven chain is foldable so our daughter could be lifted on the front seat without risc the bike will fall. The kickstand is really broad and should do weights up to 200kilogramm. The hand driven chain drives the feet pedal too. A free wheel system will allow to rest a bit while the person in back does the pedaling. The handdrive is currently getting its powder coating at lunch break by one of my co-workers. We hope that she will be able to train the legs without risc to overdoing it. The force has to be done with arms and the legs are just moved. In the tandem forum this construction was used by a couple were the girl suffered from paraplegia and could use arms but not the legs.
  20. The character was played in in 3 Player lan play to level 60+ this weekend. 2 players were riding cycles and drowing enemies into the dustdevil. Damage of dustdevil is at 2300 per tick at character level 60. Totem damage is at 2600 and tangled vine at 2500. Hunter focus, nature focus and combat discipline will be brought to mastery first. Fourth skill will be ancient magic. The lores are unlocked so +allSkills Stuff is working on them but boosting the 2 skills which boost spell damage in all 3 aspects have higher priority.
  21. Goldener Herbst-golden autumn Waking up our house is above morning fog in valleys and all we can see are islands of hilltops in golden sunlight in mid of an sea of fog clouds. We have around 3 celcius at morning and 21 in afternoon. Temperature raises quickly once the fog has gone. Some 'rain' which is in fact condensing fog early mornings. Picture from a place near where my sister lives, 20 miles away from me, 10 from my parents. The hill has remains of a more than 2 thousand year old celtic fortress and a few miles away the romans tried to build a town 2000 years ago. But they retreated after Varus was defeated and lost 3 legions. For us volunteer firefighters the fog stands for a lot of car accidents. In a neighbour disctrict a 12 year old girl was injured for danger of life. A hart was trying to cross a secondary street and a car crashed into it. The driver was injured at impact, the hart was hurled into the air, rotated and its antler broke the side windows of the car and the girl was injured on the back seat by the antlers.
  22. I am using a macroscope. I bought it direct at the company building them in Wetzlar. Wetzlar has a dozen companies in the optical industry and my avatar is its coat of arms because I grew up there. The mini-telescope was really useful around my eye surgeries. I had only one eye still functionable (even it was at -10 dioptres). I could use the macroscope to watch sport and theatre, TV (couldn't read text lines), animals from falcons down to insects and more useful: I could attach it on a stand, tripod or helm adapter to do fine works. It can focus to something close as 1 foot, which leaves enough room for hands or tools. I am still using the head adapter when I do graphics at computer or connect wires to explosives at job. I never got used to the Windows buildin magnifier, so something similiar to magnifying glasses in my case too. While browsing the Minox homepage to see if they have new macroscopes I stumbled above this brandnew camera: Seems the camera shoots 4 pictures the same moment and so you can get nice 3D effects, or focus different distances of same motive, .... Minox 4-eyed camera
  23. My quote dictionary states it is from the US politician Daniel J. Evans and used in US Marines training camps. We have something like: 'Schmezze komme zu Ross und gie wech zu Foss.' Which is terrible ancient hessian (the state I live) slang. Translated into german: 'Schmerzen kommen zu Pferd aber gehen zu Fuss.' or in english: 'Pain arrives galopping on a horse but leaves walking.' Meaning is something like: Pain arrives quickly because of accidents but it lasts long.
  24. I always considered it stupid to buy a car following latest savety technology, but ignoring the bicycles of the kids. I got the Magura for 140 euro from my father in law, a former motorbike sidecar racer who has good contacts to bike builders. I think the price is at 300+ US-$ outside germany/europe. I normaly buy frames from a high quality steel and add gearbox, brakes, saddle, ... With luck I get a frame of Chrome/Moly steel for 5 euro at a sale auction at towns lost property office. The kids help when building the bike up and so are hopefully able to repair stuff if they got a defect at a tour. The money I save on the frame I can put in better gearbox, saddle, brakes, ... If they grow I take the next frame and attach gearbox and brakes from their last bike. So they are used to the gear shifting and brakes and I can spend more money for good parts. It is not wasted money if I do 600 euro for a 14 gearbox and it has a 20 year guarantee and the kid can use it even still it visits university. And since their is no moving chain the gears can be changed from 14 to 1 at a red light while standing. No ziczacing, no getting out of the saddle because they have to come to speed in too high gear uphill. Adds to savety too: driving a straight line after a red light so cars can pass you more easily.
