OGame Rule Changes - Very Important

Recommended Posts

Wow - Major Rule Changes posted on the OGame forum: Biggest change I see is with the Bashing Rule - Take a look: (copied from the official post):

So, here is a short explanaiton of every rule, if there are still questions, pls post in: Questions about the new Rules

Explanation of Rule I: Account

quote:

I. Account

- Each user is allowed to have 1 account per Universe

- Each account is only to be played by one person

This means that you may not have more than one account in a single universe, and that the account is to only be played by the owner. You may not make accounts for other people, nor may you play for other people, or have other people play your account for you, regardless of your relationship with them. Even if you are brothers, father and son, or roommates, you may only play your own account.

Explanation of Rule II. Multi-Accounts

quote:

II. Multi-Accounts

- Controlling more than one account per universe is strictly forbidden

- if there are 2 or more players on the same IP (eg siblings, couples, etc) it is better to have nothing else in common (only same aliance is allowed) otherwise this could be seen as multi and is bannable

- Accounts that are playing on the same IP are not allowed to interact in any way.

- It is always best to inform a GO beforehand that two people are playing in the same Universe on the same IP. But the rules still apply!

Controlling more than one account is strictly forbidden, and will lead to both accounts being banned permanently. There are absolutely no circumstances under which you are allowed to own a second account. None. If you play on a computer that shares the same IP address as another player, you should make it easy to tell that different people own the accounts.

For instance, if you and your brother both share an IP address, and name your accounts “Dark Mage” and “Darker Mage” do not be surprised if you end up banned. Another examples would be if two players on the same IP were to attack the same people. If you make it difficult to tell whether or not you and your brother’s accounts are owned by separate people, you can be banned. This applies to all scenarios where an IP is shared between players.

While accounts are playing on the same IP they are not allowed to interact, for any reason, ever. Once the accounts have moved to different IPs, IE one person is at home, and the other is playing from another city. Then they may interact, within the game rules. But once the other returns home, and both are playing on the same IP again, they may not interact.

Explanation of Rule III: Account Sitting

quote:

III. Account Sitting

Account sitting may take place only under the following conditions

- An account may only be sat for a maximum of 12 continuous hours.

- You must to inform a GO of your Universe about the sitting.

- When account sitting, it is allowed to use the Resources on a single planet/moon to build ‘Buildings’, and upgrade ‘Techs’ (research). NO resources can be shipped between the sitted account's planets or moons by the sitter.

- Before an account may be sitted again, the owner needs to log into the account again - two people may not sit an account consecutively.

- Once the owner has logged in, 7 days must pass before that account may be sitted again by any other user.

- Once a sitter has finished sitting an account, they may not sit any account for 7 days.

DON’Ts

- No Fleet movements are allowed while the account is being sitted, however you are allowed to save a fleet, only when there is an incoming attack against the sitted account. The save can ONLY be on a transport or deploy to the sitted accounts own planets/moons.

- It is not allowed to sit an account in the first 3 weeks of a new universe.

- While an account is being sat only the sitter is allowed to log in. If the account owner logs in, the sitting is considered to be finished.

- Using multiple sitters is not allowed during an account sitting period.

Account sitting violations are taken very seriously, and usually end with a permanent ban for the sitted account, and possibly the sitter, depending on the circumstances.

No account may be sitted for more than 12 hours, for any reason. If the owner of the account is going to be gone for longer than that, then they should use vacation mode.

As soon as the owner logs into the account, the sitting period is over, and that account cannot be sat again for 7 days. You may not have multiple sitters for a twelve-hour period. You cannot have another sitter sit the account for 12 hours after the first sitter finishes.

The person that just sat the account cannot sit another account for 7 days. The owner of the account needs to log into it before it can be sitted again, so a sitter cannot sit an account for 12 hours, and then leave for 7 days, then sit it again (even if it is a new sitter the next time).

No account, for any reason, can be sat in the first three weeks of a universe. If the owner logs in while the account is being sitted, the account will be banned. While sitting an account, no fleet movements may take place at all. This means no shipping of resources between planets, to other players, attacking, recycling, etc. The only exception to this is when there is an incoming attack. In that case the sitter may fleet save using a transport or deploy mission to one of the sitted accounts planets (*only* the sitted account’s planets). Using the resources that are already present on a planet, the sitter is allowed to research techs and construct buildings, ships, and defense.

If a game operator is not informed in advance about an account being sitted it will result in an account sharing ban.

Explanation of Rule IV: Account Exchange

quote:

IV Account exchange

Any given account is related to the person whose email address is the permanent email address. If users exchange accounts without the assistance of a game operator, no complaints or requests will be processed unless these originate from the permanent addresses registered to the given accounts.

Game operators can not only exchange two accounts easily, they can ensure security (from account theft), and also do an exchange without a need for passwords to be shared.

The owner of an account’s permanent Email address is considered the owner of the account. If you choose to exchange accounts with another player, ownership of an account is not considered transferred until an account’s permanent Email changes.

If you choose to exchange account you are doing so at your own risk. If you are exchanging account with the same universe, however, a game operator can ensure that it is done safely. If both accounts contact a game operator from the permanent Email address associated with each respective account, saying they wish to exchange accounts, a game operator may then trigger an automated process that switches those account’s Emails and passwords automatically.

Should you choose to exchange accounts between universes, you are choosing to do so at your own risk, since game operators cannot securely transfer ownership of accounts that way. If problems occur for any reason, please remember that even if your account’s password has been changed, unless you have given an account thief more than a week (the time it takes to change an account’s permanent Email), you should still be able to use password recovery to get back into your account, as the permanent Email should not have changed yet. Any complaints regarding account exchange will not be dealt with unless they originate from the permanent Email address of an account. If you cannot use password recovery because the thief has changed the name of your account, and you cannot find out the name they have changed it to is, please contact the super game operator of that universe, and they will be able to tell you what it has changed to.

Explanation of Rule V: Bashing

quote:

V. Bashing

- Attacking a planet or moon more than 6 times in any 24 hour period is considered bashing, and is not allowed.

- Moon Destruction missions count as attacks under the bashing rules.

Exceptions

- Bashing is only permitted when your Alliance is at war with another Alliance

(the War must to be announced on the official Ogame board, in the correct forum)

- attacking fleets that are completely destroyed do not count towards the bashing rule

- Fleets whose combat is affected by the no-fire bug are exempt from the bashing rule.

- Interplanetary missile attacks do not count towards the bashing rule.

Wave attacks from the old rules have been completely eliminated. From now on any single attacking mission that produces a combat report is considered one attack (some exceptions are listed below).

Please note that in order to violate the bashing rule, the same planet needs to be attacked more than 6 times in a 24 hour period. If somebody attacks every planet a player has, and its moon, 6 times every 24 hours, it is still not bashing. There are no exceptions to this, for any reason. Note that moons are treated like separate planets with regard to the bashing rule. So if somebody were to attack a planet 6 times, and also attack that planet’s moon 6 times in the same day (a total of 12 attacks), that would be legal.

The only time the bashing rule can be waived is when your alliance is at war with another alliance, in which case you may bash members of that alliance. All wars must to be announced on the official Ogame board, under the diplomacy section of the appropriate universe.

Please note that attacks from interplanetary missiles do not count towards the bashing rule, no matter what.

Attacking fleets that are completely destroyed do not count towards the bashing rule, so if somebody sent 7 fleets at one planet in a day, but one of them was completely destroyed, that would only count as 6 attacks

If an espionage mission that contains more than probes is counter espionaged, and is not completely destroyed, it counts as an attack.

Since moon destruction missions count as attacks, that means if you’ve already attacked that moon 6 times in the last 24 hours, you cannot send a moon destruction mission at that point.

If a bug causes the fleets to not fire at all, resulting in a draw, that encounter does not count towards the bashing rule.

Explanation of Rule VI: Pushing

quote:

VI. Pushing

- pushing is when a lower ranked player sends Resources to a higher ranked player who gains unfairly from these resources. This also includes sending ressources to a higher ranked player who extorts you.

- Under no circumstances whatsoever is pushing permissible.

- Note that if you unexpectedly receive resources from a lower player, you cannot keep them. They must be returned immediately.

- Loans are not permissible

- Trades must be completed within 48 hours.

Examples (violations are *NOT* limited to these)

- A lower rank player sending a higher ranked player Resources.

- If a lower ranked player sends his fleet on attack to a higher ranked player so that the higher ranked player can harvest the debris created.

- Transporting resources to a planet which is then attacked for the resources.

Recycling Help

- sending resources to a higher ranked player after you helped him recycling a debris field is allowed ONLY when he/she obtains permission from a GO of his/her universe before it takes place.

Bounties/ Head Hunts

- Bounties and head hunts must be declared on the forum to be acknowledged. Those not declared on the forums will be treated as pushing when applicable.

- Bounties may only be paid after the target has been destroyed - never in advance.

The pushing rule is in place to ensure that no account is being fed resources from another account. This way everybody has to work for his or her own resources, and nobody has to worry about competing with people that are given an unfair advantage by receiving help from multiple accounts. While it is okay to help newbs out (higher players to send lower ranked players resources, also know as pulling), it is forbidden for lower players to feed resources to higher players for any reason (pushing).

Cases of pushing are not limited to situations where both parties (the lower person sending the resources and the higher one receiving them) are involved in planning the push. For instance, if a lower player accidentally sends resources to a higher player, the higher player cannot keep them, regardless of the fact that the higher player didn’t intend to be pushed.

Under absolutely no circumstances whatsoever is pushing acceptable. Do not ever expect that it is okay to engage in pushing for any reason.

Some examples of things that are pushing. User A has 1,000,000 points, user B has 100,000 points

User A says that if User B sends him resources he won’t attack him. Things like this are not allowed at all. Both would be banned for pushing in this case. User A say that if User B’s sends him resources he will end the war between their allys, grant an NAP, etc. – nothing like that is allowed ever.

User B types in the wrong cords and sends User A resources. User A keeps them, surprised, yet happy to find free resources delivered to him. Nobody says anything to the staff. Both would be banned. However if User B were to report his mistake to a game operator, he would not be banned. For User A to not be banned he would need to return the resources to the player or to a GO.

The same thing applies to trades. User B agrees to trade User A resources. Users B sends User A resources, but User A hasn’t done anything 48 hours after User B sent his resources. If neither contact a GO about it, both could be banned for pushing, if B reports the situation to a GO, he is safe, and if A returns the resources, he is safe.

If a player is crashed, ally mates that have a lower rank than the player (their rank after the crash) are still not allowed to push a player unless permission is received from a game operator. Permission must be granted or the pushed player and the lower players that push could be banned. This exception is only granted in extreme circumstances.

If you attempt to circumvent the pushing rule or hide your violations of it by using covert methods you will probably receive a stiffer penalty.

If User B is helping User A recycle a large debris field, a GO must be informed about it beforehand, or it will be considered pushing.

If User B wants to pay User A to attack somebody (bounty or headhunt) they must post it on the head hunt board appropriate to their universe number. Payments for attacks can only go out after the head hunt has been carried out, otherwise the payment will be treated as pushing when applicable. This includes things like paying somebody to crash another player’s fleet, paying somebody to send interplanetary missiles at another player, and anything like that. Head hunts and bounties not posted on the board will not be recognized, and payments for them will be treated as pushing when applicable. Additionally, the staff can invalidate a bounty if they feel the reward is exorbitant based on the task (A 100,000,000,000 resource bounty to attack a 5,000 point player, to use an extreme example, would be forbidden).

Explanation of Rule VII: Moonchances

quote:

VII. Moonchances

- Moonshots are permitted

- Permission from a GO needs to be Obtained before it takes place

- Care must be taken that the higher ranked player does not make a profit out of a moonshot. This is Pushing and is banable.

- Moonchance fleet must never exceed the amount required for a 20% moonchance.

The rule means that crashing a fleet against another player is allowed in order to create a moon for them. However should the higher ranked player profit in resources at all from this exchange it will be considered pushing. Receiving the moon itself does not count as profit for the purposes of the rules. Should a GO not be informed of a moon shot and resources are transferred to a higher player, it will be considered pushing.

Explanation of Rule VIII: Bugusing

VIII Bugusing

quote:

- using bugs is not permitted under any circumstances

- If a player finds a bug they have to forward it to the staff as soon as possible (eg via board, IRC or E-mail)

- failing to report an obvious bug is considered as punishable.

- Any method or intention that unfairly stops or slows a user's ability to play Ogame is strictly forbidden.

Bug using is treated very seriously, and can lead to a permanent ban. Bug using is not limited to exploiting errors in the game’s code. Bug using is also any kind of method that would, for instance, create lag for another player, that attempts to prevent them from fleet saving while you attack them. It could also be something that exploits a feature of the game to create a problem for other players, such as continually taking up dozens of planet slots with destroyed planets intentionally.

If the system automatically detects that you might be using an exploit, you could receive a 1 hour ban without vacation mode. One of the common ways this happens is when people attempt to refresh a phalanx window. You should never attempt to refresh any Ogame page, as it could lead to a bug-using ban.

Explanation of Rule IX: Language

quote:

IX. Language

- the official language at www.ogame.org and board.ogame.org is English

- Messages and alliance pages not in English are not permitted

- Impersonating or claiming to be staff is not permitted under any circumstances.

This is English Ogame, and thus all players here are playing with the assumption that they will be able to communicate using the same common language. Reported in game messages that are not in English will result in a ban, regardless of the circumstances, and repeated offenses can lead to a permanent ban. Alliance pages must be in English, or they could be deleted. It is acceptable to have an alliance page in English, then have a translation in another language available on the page, so long at it is clearly marked as such.

Falsely claiming to be a member of the Ogame staff will result in a permanent ban; there is no reason for you to ever be doing that.

Explanation of Rule X: Misuse of the report insult function

X. Misuse of the report insult function

quote:

Using the report insult function to report messages that do not contain a violation of the rules is not allowed.

If you report a message that is not a violation of the rules, the staff can ban you at their discretion for misusing the report function. Here is a list of some common things (by no means is this list definitive) that are reported, that are not violations of the rules: Light insults, threats of in game attack, alliance recruitment messages, requests for resources, and other unsolicited messages. The report function, in general, should only be used to report heavy insults, offensive messages, or non-English messages, or something that is very obviously indicating a violation of any other rule.

Explanation of Rule XI: Reallife threats

XI. Reallife threats

quote:

Implying that you are going to locate and harm another person is strictly forbidden, anywhere on any Ogame service.

If you clearly indicate that you’re going to locate and harm somebody, you will receive a permanent ban. This is taken very seriously. This is not limited to in game messages, this includes ally pages, the forum, IRC, and everywhere else on Ogame.

Explanation of Rule XII: Spam, insults, and offensive content

quote:

XII Spam, insults and offensive content

- spam, insults, and offensive content are not permitted.

Receiving an unsolicited in game message does not constitute a violation of the spam rule, and follow up messages do not necessarily violate it either. As long as each message is unique in purpose and content, it is not spam. Message spam tends to be multiple messages that do not have a purpose, are gibberish, or are solely intended to irritate the recipient. A single message is never spam, because it’s easy to delete just one message. An exception to this would be somebody that is advertising other websites or services, or messages that force the screen to scroll vertically or horizontally, because of their width or length. There are other forms of spam, including, but not limited to: sending lots of pointless attacks or espionage missions at a player, clogging somebody’s overview screen with fleets for an extended period of time, or other such things.

Generally only heavy insults that are more than mildly offensive in nature are bannable. Calling somebody an idiot, for instance, would not be a ban worthy offense, but saying that somebody rapes their mother would be. Swearing at other users is also considered a violation of this rule (only the ‘kingdom’ swear words). Calling somebody a liar, pathetic, noob, moron, dumbass, nerd, etc are not offensive enough in any context to be considered ban worthy. Yes, some people are more offended by some things than others, for instance some people might be more offended when somebody calls them a liar than when somebody calls them other four letter word.

Since we have no way of telling how offended somebody is by an insult (people lie too often, unfortunately), the same standard is used for all, and in general, this means an insult needs to be quite vulgar for it to be ban worthy. A lot of people seem to think that the insult rule covers more than it does, because they don't fully understand what's bannable. If you ever want to know whether or not an insult is ban worthy, please feel free to make a thread on the game help board and ask (generally it's best to wait for the opinion of a GO or two), you can go on IRC and join #ogame.org-support and ask there, or you can Email one of the GOs of your universe and ask them.

Please note that this rule does not limit itself to in game messages, it applies everywhere, including ally pages, planet names, and usernames.

Explanation of Rule XIII: Violations of the rules

quote:

XIII Violations of the rules

- a violation of the rules could result in a ban with a minimum length of 1 day and could be up to a permanent ban. This ban could be either with or without vacation mode.

- you are able to see all bans on the pillory

- if you are banned contact the GO responsible, first (please write your Universe and Username into the Subject of the Mail or PM). Clicking on the Game Operator's name in the pillory next to your ban will do this automatically.

Any time you break a rule, a game operator may take any action against you that they see fit. This includes banning your account for a minimum of one day, up to permanently. A GO can also ask that you meet other conditions for your account to be reinstated, such as returning ill-gotten resources (generally this is only for pushing cases), changing your password and or Email, activating or deactivating IP check, or to cease any activity that is detrimental to game play or that causes it to be difficult to enforce its rules. Bans can be with or without vacation mode, at a game operators discretion. Generally the only bans that will be without vacation mode are things dealing with heavy insults or offensive content. Repeated offenses will result in more severe punishments. Rule infractions are examined on a case by case basis, and are dealt with in a manner unique to their situation. Do not assume that you will receive the same punishment as somebody else that has committed a similar infraction.

You are able to see all bans for every universe on the universe’s pillory. A link to all pillories can be found on the Ogame forum, under the announcements section, go to the “Game” sub section, then look in the thread titled “Pillory.” Or you can follow this link: Pillory

If you are banned, only contact the game operator who banned you. Contacting any other staff members about the subject before contacting the GO that banned you is a waste of your time and theirs. If the GO that banned you does not respond to your Emails after 48 hours, or after discussing the problem at length with them you feel that they have not acted fairly or mistreated you, you may contact the super game operator of that universe. If you feel that the super game operator is not acting appropriately, or they have not responded after 48 hours, you may contact a game administrator with the issue. If you feel a GA is out of line, you may contact another GA about the issue if you really wish, but verdicts from GAs tend to be final.

To contact the GO who banned you, go to the pillory and click on their name, in the same row that your name appears, and it will bring up their Email in your browser’s Email client. Their Email address will appear in the recipient’s box, and the subject line will read: Ban_of_[username here]_UNI_[universe number here]. If you choose to not contact a game operator this way, please include the your username and universe number in the subject line of your Email, or the GO might not be able to help you, because they won’t know who you are, or what universe you’re from. A list of all staff members can be found at the following link, clicking on their name will bring up their Email:

http://www.ogame.org/portal/?go=team〈=org

Some common ban reasons that will appear on the pillory are:

Multi accounting 1/2, multi accounting 2/2, commonly abbreviated as multi 1/2, multi 2/2, multi user 1/2. multi user, 2/2, etc

This means that it is suspected that the same person controls both accounts. It can be changed as necessary to reflect the number of accounts, IE, X/3, X/4, etc. Generally multi accounts will be listed next to each other on the pillory.

Account sharing

This means that it is suspected that more than one person is playing the account.

Bashing

This means that you have attacked a planet more than 6 times in 24 hours.

Pushing, or Pushed Player

This means the pushing rule has been violated, because a higher ranked player was given resources by a lower ranked player for little or no return service. The one listed as pushed player on the pillory was the beneficiary in the case.

Misuse of report function, report tool abuse, misusing report tool, etc

This means that you have reported a message that should not have been reported.

Non-English message

This means that you sent somebody a non-English message, and they reported it.

Bug-using

This means that you have been banned for exploiting errors in the game, causing errors for somebody else, or something similar.

Real life threat

This means you’ve been banned for communicating some sort of real life threat.

Heavy insult, offensive message, cursing, etc

This means you’ve been banned for having offensive material of some sort in a message, ally page, etc.

Contact

Please contact the game operator who banned you and resolve the situation with them.

Clarified

This means a situation of some sort has been resolved with a game operator. This reason is commonly used for unbans.

Setting ban length, adjusted ban length, etc

This means a game operator might have given you a ban too long or too short accidentally, and is correcting their mistake.

Spam, probe spam, IPM spam, etc

This means you’ve been harassing another player with useless messages, pointless espionage missions, or something similar.

Ban reasons given are not limited to these.

Interesting. Only 6 attacks per 24 hrs, with no waves.

I wonder how many bashing bans/accusations we're going to see till everybody gets used to the new rules?

Link to comment

Alot of nice clarifications. But anyway, is it just me that thinks that the GO are going to have their hands full now with examining, granting permissions for this and that? Kinda looks like they are biting over more than a mouthfull of stuff to handle at all times.

Link to comment

Yeah I agree. That's a major change along with the idea that a wave of 3 no longer counts as a single attack.

It's interesting to read through the OOF topics on this issue - major problem most players are venting about is the change to the sitting rule to 12 hours...

hey, cyclops, will this change dramatically alter your attacking strategies:)

WOW /shok /shok that realy is major rule changes (I guess they have a lot of new GO`s over "there" that needs somthing to do) coz they are going to have there hands full now....

Wonder when we're going to need to request GO permission to build a solar satellite :o

Llama: sitting is when someone takes care of someone else's account for a while

/shok ....I think its gone be very hard for the GO`s to upholde all these rules, I finde it hard to remember everything. I guess il get banned sooner or later for not following some of the "minor" rules. /shok

I guess I wont interact with anyone except for attacking, bcoz I finde all the trading/pushing/loan rules a bit over the top.

What about "Missile sillo for rent", is it allowed now?

The pushing rule..

Quote

"For instance, if a lower player accidentally sends resources to a higher player, the higher player cannot keep them, regardless of the fact that the higher player didn’t intend to be pushed."

If we where 10 lower players who "accidentally" send some recources to a higher ranked player, then he would be forced to return it back, if he didnt he could be banned for pushing. This is a greate way to block his fleet slots :D

  • 1 year later...

They have 2 days to return all the res to the previous owners. This would only slow them down a little.

Also many small people sending res to a big player is frowned on and considered cheating to get a player banned. If a go sees you do it a lot he will ban you or if there is a group instant banage.

You were lucky there surf. They can get pretty smallish about that knda stuff. Best always to inform the GO about the shot before even launching for the moon chance. And it's very important to make sure that the payments are picture perfect with no chance of a GO thinking that the trade was in any way a kind of push.

:4rofl:
