Here's some good tips:

 

Spidey senses starttingle when you get a post from out of the blue with no questions or specific subjects. If that happens, you know something more than likely is up. At that point you can do checks on the net for the person's name...google's great at flushing out stuff like this.

 

It's usually the first post of any poster that sets off the bells or not... unexpected, vague hellos like this are usually setups for sleepers... who turn on their sigs into ads later on... SIF has a few of these which I've enjoyed spotting there...they get cleverer and clever all the time... and most bots which find our defenses of this site impossible to overcome usually have a human operator do the primary registration.

The "Who Care" sig got my attention on this one, as I have seen similar sigs on sleepers over at SIF.

At first I wasn't sure. I just had a feeling... And when I get that feeling I google the members nic. If most of the page is comprised of sites linking to profile pages of the member name then it's a pretty good indication that the member name is a bot. For even more proof I'll check the different profile pages. If all of the Join Dates are within a month's time it's a bot. Check anyone else's name on the forum and you'll see very different results in Google. Bots are very predictable that way.

 

I guess what give me tha tingles is that the member doesn't really say anything specific. It's a very vague intro that could be applied to any site.

An important part that I didn't mention is that Bots don't make significant contributions or spend time customizing their profiles. In fact they generally make 0-1 posts/contributions. In your case Sam you have made quite a fair amount of contributions and not only that but your Join Dates span several years.

 

P.s.

Sometimes a Google result will reveal that some other site has already uncovered said member name as a bot.

Yeah thats usually the first thing I do after registering on a new forum. From my experience people always seem more open and willing to lend help/advice when you have some meat in your profile, until you can build your post count and your name becomes recognized.

Thats a good question. Plus if you take a look at his post count there is something botish like there.

But the answer is no gogo is not a bot he is a human bot hybrid.
