Npc Meliondor escort quest

Hi. So I just arrived in the region and I am stuck with this guy Meliondor who wants to go to the city. But I dont want to go straight there and I dont want this guy following me around. Can I get rid of him? If there was a proper save game function implemented I would just reload, but there isn't and I cant. Any advice?

A couple of those escort quests are quite annoying yes, but I can't kill a child (little mary in the quest in the hands of kobolds)

I try to first clear the area, like with the quest Holdup. As soon as that quest pops up I just run into the brigands and kill them. In most times they will be accompanied by undead and rats. After killing the brigands I clear the route between that npc (malian or something like that) and the maingate of Thylysium. Otherwise you have to protect her from undead, rats, toxic elements, boars and malicious brigands (and also some dastardly) and if you're lucky you sometimes also come across a brown bear. After clearing the road I go back, talk to the npc and escort her to Thylysium, which is then just a nice walk.

With Meliondor it's more easier. First be sure you have already reached Thylysium and activated the monolith. Go to that guy, hit F8 and you find yourself with meliondor in Thylysium. Now all you have to do is to walk to his sister's house and bring the sad news.

If you already have him with you, then let him closely stick to you (stay near me) and set it to attack as group. Be sure you are always a step forwards to meliondor. Just throw yourself in front of him.

And if you really desperate you can always let him killed, but then you fail the quest. I hate it myself to see a failed quest, so I always try to complete it.

Gotta agree. Just because those stupid (or plain suicidal) individuals can't stay well behind my character and let me clear the path for them. I had really hard time keeping Mary Ann alive in "Orpheus" quest. She was running around in circles in the Orpheus' crypt, a pack of rats snapping at her heels while I was busy with zombies and other rats. It was kinda funny, actually: Mary Ann runned around in panic, and my Seraphim chased the rats following her. It's a plain miracle she didn't die while my combat arts were still regenerating, and I was able to heal her up again with Hallowed Restoration. I think I had to heal her at least four or five times...

 

But as annoying as those escort quests may be, I just have to accept all of them. Why? Because I am playing the game the very first time. I have to see what they are like; no matter how insignificant or ridiculous they might seem. It's a whole different thing later, when/if I have finished the game... :)

I make use of the teleporters with most of my escort quests except those that are a very short distance. Occasionally, you have to go back over the intended path after dropping off the escort to clear the circles on the map but that allows me to get more experiance points killing along the way.

Some suicidal escort quests can be managed. For instance, avoid picking up the Holdup Quest too early by taking the quest only when you have

 

a) taken the soul stone (resurrection monolith) near the High Elf camp just short of the Holdup Quest start point,

b) taken the Thylysium portal.

 

Once you have the Thy portal, just teleport back to the resurrection monolith... run to the holdup quest... kill the thieves, and then teleport to Thylysium. Run from inside the city to the edge to drop the Lady off with her husband. And voila! Suicidal escort successfully delivered.

 

Orpheus quest: I just keep pumping her with healing potions, and I use an Area of Effect to grab the aggro from the rats and zombies. I make myself the preferred target over the paniced damsel.

 

Same thing with Meliandor... don't talk to him until you can quickly deliver him by portal.

I usually do Meliandor after the holdup quest, and then portal to thylysium and hand both in at same time.

 

I currently have a failed escort with me but she is an archer and actually helpful in some fights, even if it is just to take the damage while I back stab the mob that is hitting her. She survived one boss so far so I might let her live, see how far she gets.

That's the easiest way to do it! Meliondor is one of the most annoying, useless "escorts" you can find. Especially since he insists on attacking enemies with his bare fists and drawing aggro. Doesn't help that the programmers gave him a measly 12 hp!

(Note: Uneducated guess only, not to be taken as fact :))

 

The only one more annoying is that Private Rinnarn guy you get near Sloeford - he is freakin USELESS!! Bow or sword? Mate - you might as well use a soup spoon.

 

Since everyone is mentioning the Orpheus quest, at least Mary Ann is capable of healing herself which seems to happen most of the time when she nears critical status.

She hasn't died on me yet unlike Meliondor and that Rinnarn dude.

I absolutely HATE the hold-up quest, it doesn't give you a chance to accept the stupid quest! If you come anywhere near that bridge the enemies start attcking her whether you are actually there or not. Loads of times I haven't got to her in time because I am fighting for my life against skellies, rats, boars, elves and kobolds all at the same time. There have also been a load of times when my HC character died there trying to save her and couldn't do that while saving myself. If you do not save her you get a bl**dy great red X in your log book!

 

Why couldn't they have given us the option of refusing the quest, like all the others? Or at least put it on a side road rather than on the main road to Thylisium, so we could avoid the stupid woman?

No, I am sorry, the most annoying escort quest in game is Desire for Unity, suicidal escorts in the swamp who aren't immune to the poisons? I suspect you can only finish this in silver (if you are lucky). There is also a writer in the desert who has no attack but grabs agro. Meliandor is possible to do if you portal right after taking quest, these other two are just a nightmare.

Rinnam isn't a big help no, especially when you face large numbers of rats and brigands. One on one he is capable of defending itself, but still it is poor. So you have to do the dirty work. Just let him stick behind you and take care yourself of the rabble.

You can avoid it if you want. Just turn left before the outpost and go to the goblin camp. You can even reach Clearview if you want. But you have to slay many undead and kobolds.

Rinnam isn't a big help no, especially when you face large numbers of rats and brigands. One on one he is capable of defending itself, but still it is poor. So you have to do the dirty work. Just let him stick behind you and take care yourself of the rabble.

 

With Rinnam I just click on Bow and stay a half screen ahead of him. That way I finish off any mobs before he catches up to me. The Holdup quest is hard to avoid even if you try to stay near the trees to get past her. You could take the scenic route and head northeast of the Elf post then cross the river and come down on the east side of the cemetery. Seems if you get anywhere in her agro area the quest starts so you probably should just do it as you may have to travel through that area on other quests or getting from point A to B.

Here is my solution for both of those quests - works EVERY time!

 

1. Meliondor - talk to him, he will attack you. Beat him but DO NOT talk to him again. Leave him with the "!" above his head.

2. Holdup - save the woman QUICKLY as soon as you see Holdup appear on your screen. Once you have beaten the bandits, DO NOT talk to her. She will be safe and just stand there with a "!" above her head.

 

OK, now make your way to Thylysium and activate the portal, resurrection monolith or both.

 

Then you can make your way back to both quest givers and, after activating them, just teleport back to Thylysium. 100% succes rate, no chance of either dying and no annoying "X" in your quest book!

I let him use the sword every time. With the bow he is weaker then with the sword.

That's the same as what I've said ;) With Holdup there are also undead, rats and sometimes boars to accompany the brigands and if you're lucky some champion ones as well.

And you want to activate the monolith ;) The portal is for travel from one place to an other (for example; from thylysium to entruag)

Funny thing about Mary Ann in the Orpheus quest. She's sort of like the undead. She can't be killed. The first time I ran through the quest, I damn near made a mess in my shorts with the way she'd run around being chased by zombies and rats - and watching her health drop like a rock. Tried healing her, but that was pretty much a useless endeavor.. I just concentrate on whacking the zombies, rats and various baddies. As soon as her health drops to 0, it gets replenished automatically by the game. Once you've made it to her zombie boyfriend, and accept the quest he will likewise join you in a semi-immortal kind of thing. Now then, when you go to see Orpheus, he will give you a choice.. Either kill Mary Ann and her zombie boyfriend or take Orpheus on and kill him.. If you elect to kill the pair, then they lose their "invulnerability" and die. If you whack Orpheus - they maintain their auto regeneration thing until you exit the cave and talk to the guy and the quest is finished.

The same trick can be used to get the brother of the poor lass who's fiance dumped her (from the other elf outpost) who wants to kick your backside but wants to join you to comfort his sister in the big city. He gets nuts, runs off and will get himself killed if you're not careful. Easy solution - skip him until you've activated the resurrection stone in the big city - it's a short hop to the sister's house. I believe it's called "Unexpected News" or something similar.

OK, this seems like a likely topic to ask my question in. I found myself saddled with an escort quest and just thought I would take my time finishing as there were other things I wanted to do first. Then the NPC died and I failed the quest! :eek:

 

I thought there was some way to heal escorts but can't seem to find any information. Anyone know if an escort can be healed while in your party?

The other issue at the beginning with the suicidal npc's, they're is a function to control how far or close the escort stays to the hero. And also whether they attack their own mob or the same as you. They are bound to the front slash and back slash buttons.

Luckily a simple space bar press does the trick. In Sacred 1 I think you had to open your inventory and drag a health potion over to their portrait. Sacred 1 was not the kind of game where you had the luxury or time to do that kind of thing in battle.
