Sacred 3 Browser Game

Aha!

lol, took you guys off guard, huh? Well...what about this. Could it work? I keep seeing ads for Dungeons and Dragons Online... Free to play... blah blah blah...

Free games like this, like Requiem offer a tremendous amount of Download Content...and the worlds could be huge.

They would quite probably trade out best-end graphics but get back insane levels of content, maybe less of a time restriction to "complete" a product, and most importantly... the "reach" of something like this would/could be enormous.

Yay or Nay?

Never having played a browser game like this I cant say much, but I think the free to play but pay for bonuses and the feel of game it engenders just wouldnt work for sacred 3. Ideally you would have something with the looks of Sacred 2 (and then some) blended with the feel of S1...not suited to a browser game. For me, it should definitely stay in the same format as it is now.

Well as far as free to play (& download) games go, I'd love to try Shaiya... looks a lot more along the lines of WoW than a browser game, tough. But I think it would be a mistake to send Sacred 3 in this direction. The tried and tested already exist in a ton of products out there already and I don't know if Sacred has enough rep to suddenly burst onto the scene as a MMORPG. In fact I think Sacred 3 will have to me a magnificent product in order to lure the masses. *I just typed a mighty paragraph about whys and why nots but it just turned out to be my own opinion of Sacred 2 and what I think S3 should offer...*

I'd say stick to the PC/Console, but please, please, please drop the mega-downloads for patches and leave the mega-downloads for additional content! Every S3 wishing well (actually Sacred 2 wishing wells also) was about more, more, more. So c'mon bring the more. But bring it in a steady string as dc or achievements. But Sacred's success to me was the SP factor. But keep us coming back in SP. I mean having to complete Silver to get to Gold and so on just gets old. Why force us to play the game 5 times with each toon to make it to max level? And one thing I love about WoW is the raids. Build a raid-like element into S3 for SP and online play and that would probably be all I would want from the game.

EDIT: Just about my gripe about completing the main quest over and over again. Give us Easy, Medium, and HARD-CORE. And make the storyline loooooong with tons of side quests that is not just "go find my chicken" quests, but quests that could eve go beyond defeating the main boss. This is where my raid-element can be brought in... If I could play on console as SP and know that unlocking a certain achievement, will enable the download and completion of some side quest I started waaaay back, that would give me something to strive for and continue playing and playing. 'Cause I know I'm face some real nasty boss but I'd get a guaranteed unique weapon\mount\set item that is only dropped by that specific boss.

EDIT-EDIT: ...errr back to topic : NAY

The amazing thing about browser games is their reach though. A lot of the things you guys are mentioning, I think has to do with a company that wanted to put everything including the kitchen sink into a game...almost an mmorpg... and didn't make it cuz of huge bugs and a rather scattered marketing.

We're all looking for amazing creativity I think, even more than what's offered with any mmorpg out there. Sacred 3 as a Browser game could/would/maybe include tons of very very cool dlc (Downloadable Content) that could make peeps whee and giggle out loud.

Or.. even if it's not a browser game... what if it was just free and we all had to download the client like with Requiem... and then get to buy awesome stuff like respecs, skins and wicked mounts.

Sacred 3 has to go somewhere to keep it's "feel" I think...that of the world's best video game sandbox..but that kind of an idea is monumentally expensive... maybe a different setup could make the next version of our "precious" happen.

Do you think that downloading a client would enable PC and console gamers to play together? Or are the console controllers causing the restriction? I mean if I can plug a mouse and keyboard into my console, it's basically a PC, right? If this could be engineered, I'd say Sacred 3 will suddenly find tons of new fans!

gogo, I just noticed there's a little blue missing from yer text. How long has it been, did you have to attend BTA (Blue text anonymous)?

My personal feeling is that a basic engine and world is required with losts of down-loadable content released like new areas, classes, equipment etc. This is the only way Sacred 3 will get made. It they make the whole complete game it will never make it to the shop.

I played quake live for a bit. It's reasonable looking, but it lacks the hardware support to really make it immersive enough.

Games like that often end up with micro payment systems too. Thumbs down to that!

I have tried several of the free browser-based RPG's. They hold my interest for awhile, but eventually I have to move on.

Many of them have great graphics, but there is always something lacking. And then there is the small matter of having to pay for the really cool items. Can't blame them for that though--they are in it to make a profit and bless them for creating a system where you can play for free just by giving up the uber equipment.

My other grip is that there are usually tons of people just sitting around trying to sell crap. The last game I played had so many in one town that I couldn't find the quest givers.

I think that if it did move to either a browser-game or free to play it would loose it's Sacred-ness. I don't think as a browser-game it would have the high-paced action of S1 or 2 (can you imagine Sacred 2 in a browser? Many PC's have enough issues giving sufficient FPS already with hardware acceleration & I don't think that browsers do that. Can you imagine gathering mobs of constructs & then using Raging Nimbus/Firey Ember/Blazing Tempest/etc & waiting for your browser to render everything?). And I don't think that a free to play game would be Sacred either, since you'd have to have micro-transactions, be that buying respecs (yeah, the "hardcore" players would love that) or the high end items, or mentor pots. How would it be Sacred if you could buy your way to the end game/highest levels/"best" gear/etc?

Also, don't forget SP, IMO, anything that requires you to be online (either as a browser-game or free to play "MMO") wouldn't be SP & Sacred has always catered to the SP crowd as well.

Scleameth, if they paid MS (& presumably Sony as well) to license the relevant code/whatever, they could make it so that PC & console players could play in the same servers. But for some reason MS don't want to make that license fee cheap (because encouraging cross-platform play is bad, apparently).

One thing I don't think would be a bad idea would be for the devs to beta the full game & then split it up (taking Sacred 2 as an example), sell chapters 1-6 (HE -> Marsh) as the retail release & then release the subsequent chapters every ~2-3 months (the content would need to be spread out a bit better between the chapters though).

OK - that thought\fact slipped my mind a little... Here's to hope :)

d... it!

I really have to start composing my posts offline,

browser just killed everything I had to say why I don't like most browser games or f2p client games,

and why this might be fatal for Sacred 3 if it was released as such..

Never will I pay to play after the purchase of the game itself. I lost many a longtime friend in the Diablo Universe when they decided on a shift over to WoW.

lol, scleameth ...about the blue... alas... twas my early formative years on the net...I was brand spanking new and...loud... I guess time crept up on me, and the look for a more reputable reputation came along...yeah right :)

And... Llama, you could have actually hit the vital on the head here.

Sacred 3 Focus on MP, SP, go hybrid again... is it because it's always hybrid that, in a marketing sort of way..it fails?

If it goes totally MP... Browser would work...though as peeps up in this topic have mentioned, MAYBE the game engine would suffer. But if three years from now technology leaps ahead again... maybe we'll get a good standoff. I have seen browser games out there...free, who's mp capabilities are not to be sneezed at when putting a lot of players on screen at the same time.

The thing with browser games v installed ("normal") games, is that browser games have to dl everything you see on-screen which would eat into the bandwidth required for Sacred 2 MP (can you imagine playing HC & downloading Sacred 2 at the same time?). With installed games, you'd have all the content on your PC already (either by having bought it on a DVD or having DL'd it previously) so the only bandwidth you'd need is for whatever the server's sending your PC to tell it about the current game-state as it pertains to your character. Granted the more you played the putative S3-browser game the more complete your copy of the content would be, but what happens if you've got your browser set to always clear it's cache? Back to square one as far as bandwidth requirements are concerned...

I don't know what browser games you're referring to Gogo, but I'd assume that the amount of "content" (gfx, sound, movies, etc) are nothing compared to S1/2/etc.

A browser based game would blow harder than Hurricane Katrina... And not in a good way.

You'd have to LOSE so many features - like the 3D scrolling environment from Sacred 2 and probably even the pseudo 3D from Sacred 1 and drop down to Super Mario Brothers style to make it downloadable for the masses. Unfortunately, FIOS or cable modems are not ubiquitous yet and are a LONG way from becoming so. I am assuming that DeepSilver are in business to make money.

Imagine having to wait half an hour for a particular bit of the game to load... I'm all for SOME ad supported games like the stuff you find on MSN/Live, but as long as the ads don't last more than 30 seconds or so. 30 minutes would be a nightmare. NO serious gamer would want to put up with that kinda thing.

Nah.. Super Mario Bros was cool when it came out - but it's so... 90's..

For Sacred 3 to really rock - it has to deliver graphics and game play that are at the very least as good as Sacred 2 - preferably BETTER.
