"Die Another Day" Team PvP Event

Recommended Posts

At long last an event I've been thinking about since the Underworld days may finally see the light of day. As events go this will be my most creative yet and hopefully my favorite. I'm not sure what to expect or how well it will work but the ideas are all there. Now it's just a matter of acting on them!

As the title implies... This IS a PvP event. So hold onto your hats people cause it's gonna be a rough ride. :D Now even though we're all accustomed to the world of HC it may not be conducive to this particular event so we're going to get the ball rolling in SC. That's right! SC folks. Believe it or not. ^^ SC will provide a PvP environment much like popular MMO's in that it will allow us to continue a battle for a good long while as opposed to HC which would make for a very short battle.

Details, details:

How is it going to go you ask? Well that's going to be a surprise. ^^ I've had plenty of time to think about how I'd like a PvP event to run and I plan on introducing those ideas on the fly so to speak. So while the basic requirements for the event will be posted I'll be with-holding the finer details until we meet on the fated day to do battle. Keep in mind that this event for the moment is experimental and that we'll be discovering what works and what doesn't as we go.

Oh and this is primarily a Team PvP event.

Restrictions:

Like all events I've run in the past I aim for absolute minimal restrictions. I find that the less "rules" there are to follow the more fun an event is and I plan to follow that preference. Granted there are a number of exploits that might be inappropriate for this event and that some balancing may take place and be implemented over time.

For now... It's a free for all. Everything and anything goes!

This weekends requirements:

Soft Core Character On the character creation screen click the skull icon so that the red glow is off

Level: 15 (You may level your character up to 15.99999 if you know what I mean) :agreed:

Alignment: Light (If anyone is wanting to bring an Inquisitor please post about it. We can try to set up a Shadow Team if need be.)

Modes:

There will be different modes of this event which you'll all learn about after this weekends event. *weeee, I love secrets!*

Day and Time:

The event will be during one of the two weekend time slots we've been using in the past two weeks. More on that when I've chosen which it will be. Once it is set I'll have a countdown timer set up for this event.

Questions? :)

P.s.

I'll be on the lookout for someone to host this event as I don't have a heck of a lot of time. If you're interested let me know AFTER this event. Next week some time. :)

Woot! :woot: Scratch my level 2 party, this seems like a blast! Love the idea of softcore and PvP so people can get right back into the game after death. Excellent idea man :D

Great idea Schot. I've never tried PvP, but I'm definitely interested in giving it a go.

Why not make it cover both time slots? A battle that rages for many days!

Do you have to be on the same alignment for PvP? That sounds kind of counter intuitive to me.

Ok! Sounds awesome schot! I'm definitely in, as long as you make it on the aussie timeslot so I can make it! In fact I already have a fiendish plan or 2.... :D

PS Looking through the smileys made me see this one - :woot: and made me think starwars themed pvp at some point :pirate:

Haha, coolbeans. Save it for a rainy day. ^^

Hey Schot can you please highlight the Softcore part of the text :) Just made a char to level 10 and don't want others to forget like I did lol

Done!

Now that the Level 2 run is on the backburner that's exactly what we'll do. The battle shall rage on for days! :D

As for alignment the server itself doesn't require it although in the case of our event we need to make teams and in order to do that the team mates have to have the same alignment. It would be really cool to have Inquisitors in this but the only way I see that working is if I somehow know in advance how many people will join. Another way to have Inquisitors involved is if some people were to make alternate Light/Shadow versions of their PvP characters. That way if we needed more Shadow chars to complete a team someone could just relog into the server with their Shadow version...

Great idea for a new event! I'll prepare a level 15 character right away!

Max

Looking forward to catching you in it Max!

Will do Bro! Both slots. ^^ Looking forward to your fiendish plan, hehe.

Star Wars PvP eh. I like it, I like it. I think you've already caught on to my meaning of "modes". ^^

Whoa!

This reminds me of the old days in Diablo II. There would be PvP parties that lasted...well...days really.

Some people over in D2 actually dont even play the game anymore. They have hit the elite status know as, "self-proclaimed pro PvP".

Please dont get me wrong. I've dabbled a bit. Never even came close to the above mentioned. Primarly because I became so addicted farming for items.

Count me in... :woot:

I remain, :D

So, how 'prepared' should the characters be? Niob smithing, buff suits, LL% weapons/armor and an inventory full of health pots? :woot:

The battle could literally go on for EVER.

Ah the olden days of PvP. No doubt Sacred 2's PvP could go on for a very long time. See you there!

The best you can possibly be dreeft. No Limits on this weekends Dday. Speaking of which... If there's anyone that needs help with their chars feel free to post in this topic to ask for help. Someone here may have what you're needing. :D

Not to worry about going on forever. I have plans to ensure it doesn't go too long. ^^

Hey buddies! Too bad this weekend I'm out. Damn it I'm missing all the events :woot:

I have an idea/suggestion. Duelling in softcore has pros and cons:

Pros --> You won't lose your toon

Cons --> You will lose your SB. That can spoil a build ant it's not cool. Moreover, all the clan and private traders and smithers are in hardcore, so the gear of the fighter will be a bit crappy. That will really discourage the participants, and probably it would be impossible to hold this kind of event at higher levels.

What's the solution? Do it in hardcore. Hey hey Munera are you crazy!? Our characters will die! No way dudes, it won't bother us if they die in harcore but offline. What do I mean? If we create and develop a generation of gladiators in hardcore online, we will be able to make high quality builds, thanks to our shoppers and smithers. We will easily get to higher levels playing with other people online. Then, all we have to do is export our toons to offline and play in open net. We can organize championships and tournaments that way, and our characters will be always at 100% as they won't lose their SB. Niob PvP events could take place therefore.

What do you think?

Link to comment

Excellent points Munera. Dragon Bro provides the perfect solution with regards to our shoppers. As for SB I'm glad you brought it up! SB is going to provide an interesting balancing mechanism in PvP. Although SC is going to provide us with the means to get back in the fight if we die it will come at a cost. Our SB. If a player dies they will still get to fight for their team but at a disadvantage which will ultimately weaken their team. This will force us to play smarter when that happens. :)

The Hardcore export sounds like a possible mode of the event. :D

lol yea the less painful one. If you don't want people bearing you any grudge play this mod! :D

Of course, I've been thinking of anti-cheating systems ^^

Hope the servers are up and running again very soon. Much to do w/ so little spare time to make it [level char to 15, establish gear] happen!

O.k.

I have have been agonizing over this event since it came up, I have never been a fan of PvP. I just had lots of poor experiences with different games (console) and getting embarrassed by some creep that got his jollies out of making peeps look silly for even trying. Most of all PvP means somebody wins and somebody loses. How do we keep this event light and fun without somebody getting pounded on and giving up or getting there ego bashed so badly that its not fun?

I have not read any posts or seen any builds designed for PvP. So what the heck do we bring to this party?

by level 15 you have 5 skills but only 30 skill points to spend. what do you pick? heavy on defense? heavy on damage? single target CAs or multi target (Area of Effect)?

These will be teams so party mods on CAs will be cool for once, but we won't have the skill points spent for only 6 or 7 mods tops.

So I am stuck.

Can Schot divulge any of his secrets to us to lesson the agony?

dang, I didnt realize you where in agony over this Loco... :(

I am not Schot to state the obvious. Taking into consideration of what little I know about this game. I chose to break down the basics...

1. Knowing the Seraphim most out of the class line. I chose Seraphim

2. for PvP, whether this game or any other, I've found from experience, concentrate on single target damage. I chose Archangel's Wrath for CA.

3. Skill choice is hard with only being able to obtain 5. There is only 1 that really may shine during PvP. Pacifism...Alchemy to unlock. w/ Alchemy pick & choose your poison.

4. w/ 2 Utility skills already established. 3 remain...but what 3 to use? I am taking 2 defense, 1 offense. Most likely Armor Lore, Shield Lore, Tactics Lore.

5. Damage of Enraged Players. I tend to find the mod and use it to the fullest extent!

6. %LL from Celetial Set, possibly toss in a low level shuriken. Stacking %LL. This tactic worked very well on my previous TechBabe. I eventually dropped the Tinwora's to go exclusively with the shuriken.

7. Your now famous buff suit. Why not? Schot said this is a free for all event. Is this cheating? Not in this event!

8. Niob to your hearts content. Use the smiths. I'm sure they get lonely in the darkness. Even a smith needs to see light everynow and again.

Those are the basics, may have missed something?

Hope this eases your agony!

I remain, Etherian

~p.s.~ I tend to keep it very light. Meaning no hard feelings. I've been in pandora's box before. Your right...events like this can get out of hand. Remember, this is a family event for the [D.a.r.k]

You can't take Alchemy to unlock Pacifism. Tactics will unlock it though. Alchemy is definitely a good skill to have but it's only useful for Dragon Mage & Dryad, because no other skills in the general tree are of much use.

I think Tactics & Armor Lore are a good starting point. Then it depends on your class and if you want to try for an offensive or defensive build. If you are stacking LL%, defensive skills are less necessary.

With all the LL% that is likely to be floating around, I have a feeling that anyone without it is going to die quickly. It would take a lot of evade/block/hp to actually stand much chance and at level 15, that's not likely to be possible.

I'd like to add to what etherian has said.

Basically, we're all in the same boat with PVP sacred 2 style, even though some of you may have PVP'd in other games, sacred 2 is comepletely different to them all so this could lead to some really hardcore ideas being useless and just keeping it simple.

Tactic wise, Im trying to just keep it simple, work out what mod points I think will be useful and planning on how to get them without wasting skill points.

PS...from wiki table here pacifism gives 4.3% mitigation at level 15...not really very much. Remember that out resistances are going to be much higher than your average monster at level 15 if we socket niob smith arts meaning damage is likely to be low without pacifism.

*head nods* thx mate! Learned something here. :(

Kinda confused now however. Alchemy being in the first skill tree. Pacifism in the second tier. 5 points into Alchemy will not unlock the second tier Pacifism?

I remain, Confused

Actually, neither will unlock it. Pacifism is a defensive skill in the second tier, requiring a 1st tier defensive skill to unlock it such as armour lore.

Now that I think about it, of course your right DB. Pacifism is directly below Constitution in the "yellow" defensive skill selection.

Insert foot in mouth!

Hmm, good point. I meant armor lore. I copied and pasted it from the 2nd paragraph, but deleted the wrong bit :(
