Brand new to PC version

Recommended Posts

First off, hello! It's good to start up the game again and see a community STILL thriving from such a solid game. ;)

I bought the game on release for the 360 and played it quite a bit, but some of the bugs, lack of support, and online pitfalls drove me away from the experience. Recently, my brother decided he was interested in trying it out on the PC, so we both purchased it via DLgamer. Well, given that I live alone and have a much better internet connection than him and the rest of the family, I had it DL'd in about 17 hours, and he's going on day 2...Whatever. :3 I'll embrace my excellent connection over his, ha.

I started to play as a HE - trying something different than my TG. Well, I was totally lost on the controls. I died in about 2 minutes from 2 little bandits or whatever since I had no idea how to use my health pots. I couldn't figure out how to get to my menus, I was just a wreck.

So my first question!

Is there a good manual or something available for download for the PC version? DLgamer doesn't have a manual attached to the game, and the control mapping would be great to have. I read that like, R - O are potions, but I don't know how to assign them, nor do I know how to assign various skills, etc. Help would be super appreciated here.

And my second question!

How can my brother and I play together campaign/progress wise? He and I live in different states and I work full time while he is getting ready to go off to college. Our timings will be a bit...off. But nonetheless, we want to be able to play together while we can, while still progressing in single player. We'll probably just play on the UK servers since we purchased the UK games, but there's 3 or 4 choices as to how to "play". What do we do here in order to enjoy the game on and offline together without getting shafted on our characters progress?

Thanks all!

Also, any tips/tricks/major differences between the 360 version the PC version worth pointing out would be useful as well. ;)

Welcome Sean! Hope you enjoy your stay here ;)

I don't know if there's a Sacred 2 manual online, but if you go to options and then to controls, you will find what are the keys for.

If you wanna play with your single player toons, play in Open Net or Coop mode. I haven't tried them though, so I can't give you a deep answer.

Welcome aboard too!

Can't really remember any good online manual either. Got mine from play.com. But as Munera said: the options is kinda best place to conf. 'em.

Had to change Divine gift away from g, which I use for map. Been summoning way too many Sakkaran demons that way. ;)

I can probably figure out a good chunk of the stuff, but what about potion mappings? That really got me frustrated, haha. Like I said, I died a few minutes in to 2 little bandits because I couldn't figure out which button used health pot.

Welcome to Dark Matters and Sacred 2 PC

The controls can take a couple hours to get used to, especially if you are a 2 thumber from console, like I was, check out our wiki here Fallen Angel. there are some GUI instructions and the like.

Game Modes:

Single player- single player campaign

Open Net - Multi-player,(campaign, Freeplay, PvP) characters are saved on you PC. one player serves as host

Closed Net - Multi-player,(Campaign, Freeplay, PVP) Characters are saved on the Servers.

LAN - Local area network, Multiplayer, characters as saved on PC, can be used with Tunngle lan client over the internet

I recommend Closed Net as that is where most of us play.

So you recommend playing even my single player characters on Closed Net? It sounds like by doing this, I can always have my character available to play either my personal campaign or with others, no? Will bosses respawn in this mode?

The closed net characters are completely separate saves than your single player characters. And the Multiplayer modes do not have some of the class specific quests that single player does. So its a trade-off. But for party play and trading gold and items Closed net is where most of us play. However, you can play campaign solo, or with a friend or 5, or in freeplay with up to 16 on closed net with the same character.

Ah, you found us Sean! You're in a Sacred 2 fantasia ...lots to see, peeps to meet, hope you have a great time here on the boards, and, like Loco said, most of us are in HC EU servers if you're looking for some online fun.

Welcome to DarkMatters!

That I did. ;)

I'm a bit afraid to try the HC thing at the moment, lol. I want to "get good" at the game again, and largely get accustomed to the controls and GUI. Then I'll probably try my hand at HC!

I have one other question - in my quest log, I want to select the quests to see which are "closest" to me. Is there any good way to go about this? And also, am I missing out horribly by just playing closed versus offline with the class quests?

Are the online and offline characters separate?

I never played sacred2 on PC before, I brought it a few days ago but my laptop just got delivered not an hour ago so I'l be playing it very soon :D

On the xbox you could just take your character and go online, If I'm understanding you correctly this is not the case on the PC version?

PS. oh and welcome to DM nicoga xD

For online play there are 2 modes. Open net and Closed net. Open net allows you to use your off-line character. the game is hosted by another player. On closed net the Characters are separate and the game is hosted on a Deep Silver Server. Open net allows for mods and balancing changes. also many exploits and such. closed net still has its share of exploits but all the serve script files and character saves are on the Deep Silver servers.

So it introduces a new On-line game with PC that the Consoles don't have. As a Closed net character can be played from any PC that has the game version you play on installed.

Okay thx, one more question though. Can HC only play with other HC players and visa versa? In other words, do I need to make a HC character to play with most of you guys?

Morning Tim!

Ayuh... HC only with HC. It's closed net...so it's a like a contained world. It's a good social barometer of builds though. Give it a go, and see what a high HBPM (Heart Beat Per Minute) is like ^^

I started playing a bit yesterday...My brother is having heaps of trouble getting it downloaded for some unknown reason. His connection is fine for anything but downloading huge files....160 kB/s is no good for him. If I didn't live 3+ hours away, I would have just given him a DVD with the files on it!

Nonetheless, I started a HE that I want to go storm route on. It seems that Pyro is the common build, but I like experimenting and trying my own things out - and besides, storm seems to be the road less traveled on the HE.

Also tried an offline Dragon Mage. Wow - very sweet class. I might try and go the route of that versus the storm HE for now, but we shall see. :4rofl:

I have a new question after starting last night with my brother. Well, a few...

First - is there a way I can get my Closed Net character to visit and enjoy Christmas Island while still remaining on Closed Net?

Second - how do quests and progress work? If I play my character solo campaign on Closed, does that screw with everyone elses progress?

Third - what bosses can I NOT fight on Closed?

Thanks
