Got my copy yesterday and played co-op for several hours (console version) and I must say I am enjoying it so far. My husband is playing Lucas and I'm playing Anjali.

Ah, this is something we haven't done yet, I'm going to try this out when I get home from work...how do you guys start up with this... do you both make decisions together on what each toon gets for points? Are you guys trying to get synergy going tween both yer builds...like lets say one a leech build for both and the other doing the damage or something?

Some time ago, when I got the demo, I was completely unimpressed by the game. I was interested in this game, since I liked DS1 (though I disliked DS2). But the demo disappointed me. It seemed too linear, with much more action than character building and uncomfortable PC controls on top. But now when I saw some of you being very excited, I start to wonder if the game is better than it seems from the first sight. Usually, I'm not into console-like RPGs and hate running down a narrow corridor, but if the quests are good and levelling may be interesting, I may give this game another chance. By the way, how interesting the quests are? The quest system may be good, but it means nothing if the quests themselves are boring.

Anyway, I really wonder if any of you play this game using keyboard and mouse. For some unknown reason I find playing action games (any real-time games in fact) using XBOX or PS3 controllers very uncomfortable, so this question is very important for me.

I'm still sitting on the fence on this one....

Once you guys let me know how MP is I might go ahead and grab it. But if it's SP/LAN only I'll probably pass on it.

I agree with stubbie about most of the gameplay elements (though I play on ps3 so I don't have to deal with pc controls/screen resolution problems). After playing quite a bit (as Reinhart) I have to say I really enjoy this game (reminds me a lot of Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance), though it isn't without flaws. While I enjoy not having health potions, so far my healing ability seems subpar (recieve up to 50% of your health back -over time- before taking mods/abilities to increase healing) giving me a very slow heal during which I have to repeatedly dodge. So far though I've wished I DID have mana potions back, because while I think it's cool that you have to attack to regain mana, basically making your mana infinite, since you NEVER get an increase to your base mana pool of 100 sometimes you have to attack a bunch just to use one ability that will drain most of your pool, forcing you to use normal attacks again, which makes it harder to set up ability combos when Area of Effect effects disappear by the time you have mana for another ability (probably part of the strategic element of the game, but after playing X number of other hack 'n' slash rpgs it's frustrating to have to constantly attack to unleash one ability, then attack again, as opposed to baldur's gate/champions where level gain increases your mana pool, allowing you to cast more of your special abilities before restoring mana). Another problem I see with mana is that there is no out of battle regen, meaning you'll most likely enter many battles without the use of your special abilities (relatively minor, as you'll attack to restore it). One problem I've seen (with reinhart) is that abilities meant to have strategic use (entropy trap, circle of energy that looks like a clock) activate too slowly to warrant using in many cases, my example being the clock trap for Reinhart, that with a long activation time and inability to select a target location take away the "trap" element and turn it into a less desirable close range Area of Effect (by the time you see an enemy group they often are already running toward you, and are attacking you by the time reinhart's clock activates). As for multiplayer, I have not yet played MP, though what I have read is not good. You can join games over PSN/Live, however, all players share inventory when grouped (other players may sell your unequipped items) and only the host's data is saved at the end of the session (all other players must revert to pre-multiplayer saves to continue their game). Dialogue choices are made based on majority vote, which seems like it could be a good or bad depending on who you're playing with. All in all I think it's a good game (much better than I thought it'd be based on reviews of the demo, and a game I'd definitely suggest for those who enjoyed BG:DA), but those who want to play multiplayer online or are unsure about DS3 might want to wait for a price reduction/patch fixing common issues.

I'm going to sum up this game this way. It's a fantastic story book. I've been playing Sacred 2 now for 2 years, and this is a quirky, absolutely beautiful little side game for a bit. I'm not sure this is the robust MP we're looking for, however, when it comes to Combat Arts...WOW. I put in another 8 hours yesterday :oooo:

The game is hugely story driven, SO much dialogue to read, but it all makes sense, and when you do get to the fighting, its always satisfying. It looks like "builds" are being built across our party of two, I've gotten one toon up pretty high, but I'm already thinking of starting again and set one up as tank, with the other leecher. I'm playing with the duel wielder shotgun, pistol and rifle, the sounds effects amazing. The click of the reload and the animation's gorgeous purple light is almost as good as the feeling I was getting from Sacred 2's Dryad Leech.

Four of us can play at once, but we'd only all be saved on one guy's build...we'd be bascially coming in as a choice of the AI"s in the game...though while we are playing we all have control over ability and skill choices, and can set up own gear. Once we leave, the original host can actually use any of the toons we, as guests, had set up and he can continue on that way.

Buy the game for a storybook break of long quests, great sound, music, and a build system that is smaller than Sacred 2's but just as potent, if not far, far more entertaining.

CA execution in this game is much much faster than in Sacred 2, almost arcade feel...just like the original Sacred ^^

This game makes magical spells look like magic

I've read of issues with multiplayer and have seen reports of the game on sale well below half the initial price. The smell-o-meter is off the scale on this one despite Gogo's praise.

Well I gotta say that I'm thoroughly enjoying dungeon siege 3. At first when I played the Demo I felt a bit disappointed. Mostly because I was hoping for a "real" MP game. But there were some interesting qualities about the demo that made me want to give the retail a try. There's things missing from the game that we're accustomed to in Sacred 2 like tons of item modifiers and various items but what we can't get from DS3 that Sacred 2 has it more than makes up for in other areas. What DS3 has that keeps me wanting more:

Excellent battle system! This is where DS3 really shines. The speed at which you can swap skills and execute them is superb. It feels like the olden days of Sacred Underworld. All I want to do is find more and bigger mobs to do my worst upon. I find DS3 battles have a sort of arcade feel. Very fast paced which I love. Oh! A brilliant touch that is part of the battle system is dodging. You can literally dodge incoming attacks. In many games the word dodge is merely a stat that grants you a chance to not get hit that is without graphical representation. In DS3 you push the space bar to make your character visibly dodge by rolling or teleporting. The cool thing is that you can actually avoid an incoming sword swipe or fireball over head by rolling under it and take no damage. Love that. While I'm playing dodge is a major component to my strategy in battle. Very effective.

Fantastic story. I'm surprised to find myself being drawn deep into the story of DS3. So far I'm finding that everything story wise is connecting nicely. The story seems to be anchored by an elder or master of yours named Odo. Even though I'm frequently off in distant lands accomplishing objectives the story frequently brings me back to Odo who is often advising me. Although he is the anchor point in the story the character Odo is always deferring to my own judgement. Another nice touch which gives me the feeling that the fate of the story is in my hands.

I could say a lot more about DS3 but basically this is a fantastic temporary fix. It's fresh and should last for a good while. Very entertaining. In fact so much so that I have to make a conscious effort to moderate my play time otherwise I wouldn't get anything done, haha.

Good fun. Well worth the bucks. My only warning is to not choose Anjali as your first character. The voice acting for her is terrible and will probably prevent a player from "getting into" the game. Every single other NPC in the game has superb voice acting.

It's the speed of CA executions with combat mode switching that has me hooked right now. lol eek, just remembered to turn the game off tonight, and start posting :oooo:

I'll post some pix up later of my toon. Some of the native weapon effects are pretty cool, Duel Wielding pistols FTW

This is definitely not our future MP game, but it's a beautiful story to have while waiting for something better. I never thought I'd be hooked on doing quests!

The game really sounds like a love or hate title from the reviews I looked at. Game length to completion is short, and I expect lots of linearity like previous Dungeon Siege titles. MAYBE worthy of bargain bin, but certainly not full price.

It is. Expectations were pretty high on this one, and it's very unlike any of the first two games. I still love playing it though, and this time I'm making all my posts before I head out to Ebb!

Thank you, thank you.....a game that gives a satisfying ending.

So many games, and movies for that matter, forget that a good ending is very important to how you feel about it.

My final amount of gameplay was 19 hours. I was level 29 and I did every possible side quest I could find.

I was very happy with the ending in Dungeon Siege 3.

The final boss was an impressive struggle but the following epilogue, though simplistic in its delivery, was very satisfying. It immediately makes me want to play the game again with a different character and this time make different decisions regarding the storyline.

While the game certainly has it faults: no area map, clunky interface, unresponsive keys, terrible auto camera zoom at times, it basically is a very good fun game.

After seeing what you guys here on the forum have said about the game maybe I will end up giving it a second chance. I played the demo, and nothing really clicked for me. Gameplay felt a bit lackluster, but perhaps that was just the 20 minute demo they presented. Will have to check this one out again for sure :)

Stubbie, all the stuff you wrote about it, I "get" it. lol, in fact, before running off to the bbq, I just have to get a new build going ^^

BTw, are you working mostly with Katrina? What kind of build did you run with her. I'm looking to get a strafing build going, the animation is just amazing...but it keeps running out of focus so quickly. Has anyone put together a machine gun build for her yet that "works?"

Ryan, it hurts that it's not MP, but oh, the glorious, glorious Combat Arts and speed of this game.

:)

Yep gogo, I finished my first play through using Katrina. I didn't specialise on any build simply because I had no idea what to expect from the various builds.

Though I did find that in 80% of her battles I would tend to use the two handed rifle. The single handed pistols required the enemies to be too close for my liking to use her effectively as a ranged toon.

I only mastered Heartseekingg Shot and Charm of Eternal Life. The empowered version of Heartseekingg Shot does devastating damage.

Belated edit:

As much as I do like the game this review is pretty much about right.

I haven't tried it, but can either of you see any game the other creates? If not I would *guess* you are using different servers or have different versions like you said.

The thing is Dragon, is that even though jet has the steam download version and I have the cd version, I still had to register my game through steam, and it is recognised as a steam game.

And we have both updated our games to the latest version via steam and it still says we both have incompatible versions?

It's a frustrating bloody mess.

I'm hoping that either gogo or schot might shed some light as they seem to have at least got the LAN to work.
