Lathor/badawi

Recommended Posts

I have an escort quest in Bangaresh (when do you not have one in Bangaresh... sheesh!) with a guy called Lathor. I messed up by clicking on a different quest marker on the map, without taking note of the existing one when I first picked up this guy. I can't seem to find the right quest location now. I think I have the right quest marker when I click one that says "Badawi" on it. When I select it, it changes positions to a place near a lake in the High Elven region, just above the desert. However, when I go to the location, there is nothing there! The quest marker seems to be just above the south part of the little lake, on a small cliff, however there is no way up there. When I stand right next to the marker at the base of the cliff, there is no usual commentary like "I'm almost there" or "I have arrived at my destination". I think it's bugged!

Also, when I click on this quest in my log book, there is NO text. In the box down the bottom it says "Lothar" and "Small Kobold". I haven't met said kobold and there is no tick next to either.

Hewp! What can I do next?

(Luckily Lothar isn't one of those annoying stupid escort types. He doesn't get himself killed so it's not too bad)

Ack.. Hate when that kinda thing happens. Where exactly did you pick the guy's quest up?

It might also help if we knew what version of the game (plain Sacred 2? Ice and Blood? with/without CM-Patch?) you've having problems with.

The quest description doesn't exactly ring any bells for me... I had a look at one of my old High Elf games that I finished off - and I couldn't find any reference to a Lathor. There was one in Thylysium - a Commander Lothar - the quest giver for the naval port undead quests. I did have one failed quest - and that one was a failed because I took another quest ahead of the "Salesman of Death" quest.

Also, just in case it helps, Lathor CANNOT DIE! There is no worry about him tagging along with me as nothing kills him. I'm not sure if he runs really fast or is just immune to damage. Does this ring a bell for anyone?

I can't find a quest on the wiki called "Badawi" so I'm not sure why the quest marker says that in both activated and deactivated state. CONFUSED MUCH!

His name is spelled Lathor, not Lothar (like Commander Lothar). I think I must have picked him up in Badawi, but I can't be 100% sure. The quest now thinks it is called Badawi so...

Wait, let me check log book again after a reload and I'll tell you more... (I'll edit this)

Ok well there is a failed quest about a guy who's a coffin maker that wants to be escorted to teardrop hamlet. The quest marker is near the border to bangaresh/badawi, below tear drop hamlet. Nothing happens when I take him there.

(I did lose Melindor, he died before I knew what I was doing. This wasn't HIS quest was it, as if so, I'll have to keep looking.

If I click on "Badawi" the supposed "quest marker" and then open my log book it has no title, no info but it says CONTACTS: Lothar (no tick) Small Kobold (no tick). Where's the kobold meant to be:)

I found a couple of things on Google (German and French, so Google translate makes the meaning confusing).

It might be a bit buggy as the first thing I found was this:

Lathor

Act 7

Info: Rival salesman. Bring him outside to assassinate him. Dark side only

Invincibility: Yes

Hits: No, he draws aggro though, which is annoying

Location: Badawi outskirts

The second thing I found was 2-3 other people who were playing seraphim and didn't know where to take Lathor.

I found this page online. This seems to be my problem (btw when I mouse over this guy, the quest name doesn't replace his on the red bar. instead it's blank)

The quest is the Travelling Salesman I think, or the Salesman of Death.

Oh well at least he's immortal and might distract enemies away from my future escorts.

I think if you play the dark campaign you have to lure this guy out and kill him.

I couldn't find the guy anywhere. I know you might have mentioned this in the other thread but what version of the game do you have again? And is it fully patched? I don't know if the CM Patch fixed this quest but I'll ask and maybe if they are able to, fix this in a future edition of the patch. So at least something positive will come out of finding this :)

Just looked at the link...Ugh, nothing like a bugged quest and invincible NPC. Least you got company :D

Not sure what can be done here unfortunately.

It's possible that they removed the guy in a future update, which is why you can't find him (at least the light campaign version). It's on version 2.64. What do you mean by CM patch? Is that like a community patch? I didn't know there was one. How cool! Where can I get it?

Keep in mind you need version 2.65.2 to be able to install the CM Patch. You'll need the patches from here... You'll need the 2.65.1.0 patch and the 2.65.2.0 patch from that page. Download those two first, then install the CM-Patch.

Yep Elwin. I think I read that's the dark campaign version of this quest.

Do I have to update the game to 2.65 to install the CM? Isn't there an old version? Given some quests are removed I'm worried it might wreck my save games this late into the game.

Yes.. You'd need to update to 2.65.2 to get the CM Patch working properly. Most, if not all of the development of the CM Patch came about AFTER 2.65.x was the standard version and DS pretty much stopped development. So yes, while there are old versions of the patch, none of them are going to help.

The only quest that was "removed" from the game - at least, that I've come across is in Orcish Byway - at the merchant's. There's a guy there who wants to talk to you about a business deal - and you go to a field behind the runemaster's place. On the light side, the quest suddenly just ends there, complete - and made absoloutly NO sense. If you play the dark side, there IS a lot more to the quest. The guy in the merchant's place turns out to be a con artist - and you wind up framing him for murder. At which point, you become the criminal mastermind, witness, judge, jury and executioner.

The 2.65.x patches don't really do all that much to the game - except fix a number of issues - one relating to Windows 7 compatability, a chat window bug, and a few other minor issues. It should have NO effect on your save games.

BUT... As always, it's always a good idea to back up your save games - in case there's a problem.

For all of you still stuck with Lathor to this day, I bring good news: Flix just helped me remove this NPC!

Basically, you have to edit the creatures.txt file in the scripts/server/ folder in order to remove the LUA code that defines him. Search for and then remove this text from the file:

mgr.createCreature {
    id = 1687,
    itemtype_id = 11067,
    name = "Human_Story_Lathor",
    behaviour = "questCreatures",
    dangerclass = 5,
    groupmaxcount = 1,
    elite_creature_id = 1687,
    probabilityforelite = 0.000000,
    rank = 50,
    tenergy_creature_id = 1687,
    template_creature_id = 1374,
    livesremaining = 0,
    unconscioustime = 20,
    palettebits = "1111111111111111",
    monstertype = 0,
    faction_id = 12,
    equipset_id = 349,
    modelscale = 1.150000,
    rise_from_ground = 0,
    has_corpse = 1,
    has_soul = 1,
    can_strafe = 0,
}

Do this while the game is closed! Then save the file and open the game again. The game won't be able to find this NPC definition and therefore won't load it. Tadaaa! Lathor is finally gone.

Note however that its quest, "Salesman of Death", will still appear on the map as a souvenir at its starting position, in front of Lothar's house in Badawi. I guess it's a minor inconvenience.

Also, Flix pointed out that if you have not started this quest yet, you should install the Community Patch first. Then, the quest won't be buggy.

Enjoy!
