Why does my tiger always die so quickly?

Hi. I'm new here. I was just wondering why my tiger dies after only a few hits while my horse lasts a really long time. I'm a level 32 Seraphim.

Welcome to Dark Matters John,

 

 

All mounts are the same. the mount shares your HP. The mount dies when you get to 1 HP left. Effectively saving your life, assuming you don't get hit with another 1 point of damage after the mount dies. Unique mounts get more and more expensive as your character levels. Obviously the upside to the unique mount is the ability to use your buffs while mounted.

Semi-related. I have never lost a mount due to combat, but I have murdered one.

 

With my Level 55 Shadow Warrior (& his scything sweep + hurl boost) I exited a cave summoned my hell hound immediately. As he came happily bouncing up the path a pack of horrible rat arttacked me. I Scythed them, and sent them hurling in all directions. One hit my poor, unsuspecting Hell Hound. He staggered left, he staggered right, he fell down dead.
