Things that go bump in the night

Recommended Posts

Lately I've been very interested in Cryptids.

That is creatures not yet accounted for by science, but seen and heard by many people around the world.

Some famous cryptids are Nessie, Bigfoot, Chupacabra etc.

I simply refuse to believe that we have seen all there is to see on this earth.

So does the creators of TV-shows like monsterquest and animal x.

Some are hoaxes, others might be very real.

Here's an example of a deep sea mystery:

"Quackers" are mysterious sounds, similar to a frog noise, widely reported by the crews of Soviet Navy submarines from various parts of the North Atlantic and Arctic Oceans during the peak of the Cold War, as well as their assumed sources. They are an example of Unidentified Submerged Objects.

Now that gets me thrilled!

Do any of you have stories, or perhaps even run-ins with such creatures?

Unfortunately, Norway is rich on folklore, but not modern sightings.

I thought Quackers were a high energy sonar? Known to be whale killing?

The area I live is known as the home of the most dangerous Dilldapp:

Something like the Wolpertinger from Bavaria, but I know that our Dilldapp is REAl. I have seen it once when I was young and returned at a night with no moon from a visit at the pub in town. It is real for sure !

That might just be. Haven't read anything about sonars though.

The Russians certainly didn't recognize it as such.

Wow, that's one scary rabbit.

Must be a b*tch to meet one in the woods for sure, haha.

Strangely, every rabbit-related cryptid seems to be a hoax.

Other cryptids are more believable, like the thunderbirds in the US.

There have been reported sightings in Arizona, Illinois, Alaska and Texas.

Giant birds might just exist, and shouldn't be too hard to observe as they cannot hide inside a thick forest or in the deep ocean like other famous cryptids.

Observers of thunderbirds claims that they can reach a wingspan of 18 feet.

I really want to see at least one of these elusive animals be revealed to the world.

We call that a Jackalope here in the United States.

On a somewhat related note, I was on a journey from Gaptooth Ridge to Armadillo (Red Dead Redemption) and spotted a great big Buck I just had to kill. I nailed it from atop my mighty Kentucky Saddler, dismounted to go skin it and then as I was finished a ...rabbit? ran past me. I thought it looked weird so instinct kicked in and I shot it too as it ran away. Turns out it was the rare Jackalope :) Fortune was on my side that day.

Hmm, exciting.

Have you encountered some of the animal people yet?

Like the donkey woman, flying men, the cougar man, and so on.

Btw, is the jackalope an easter egg in the game?

I haven't encountered those glitches, but they sure are funny! I did see people floating several meters in the air above their wagon a few times in multiplayer, though.

The Jackalope is sort of an easter egg, yes. One of the DLC outfits, the Master Hunter outfit I believe it's called, has killing the Jackalope as one of its requirements. I can't give any tips on how to find it because it was pure luck that I saw it in the first place.
