LostSoulFly 0
I know some programming and would like to see about creating an open-source Sacred Open server. I just need a bit more information, perhaps a log of the handshake and lobby packets to get started. I can already make a connection and I'm trying to figure out the protocol Sacred uses for passing CD-key/User/Password/e-mail information at account registration as well as how to respond to the initial login request. So again, if anyone can still connect to the Open servers, please grab Wireshark (or some other program) and capture all the packets transferred between you and the server when you're logging in a few times. The first packet is a bit longer. Attaching a debugger and reverse engineering the network portion is not something I can do yet. Anyone have any guides or experience in that? I want to make this a reality without having to mess with hamachi or wippien. Link to comment
gogoblender 3,069
Welcome to DarkMatters Brad! Saw your post, and thought you may be more traffic and interest if we set it up on it's own topic. There have been a few threads lately about open servers, some with Hamachi, maybe this will get some others interested in the direction. gogo Link to comment
LostSoulFly 0
This would be the one true solution in my opinion! I ordered a few reverse engineering books from Amazon that should give me a good foundation, but I'm swamped with classes and work lately, so we'll see how things go. Link to comment
Dobster 39
The sacred Open lobby is still active. Llama managed to get it working a while back and there is a thread about it on the sacred forum. I'll have a look and see if I can find it. Edit: here is Llamas post http://forum.sacred2.com/showthread.php?t=69329&highlight=Open+lobby Link to comment
LostSoulFly 0
Yes, I saw that as well which is what sparked my interest in this. I can't connect, I've tried before and I just tried again. If you or anyone else can, please do as requested in my first post - get a wireshark packet capture of you logging in/registering an account, it would likely help me considerably. EDIT: I remember reading some people suspected it was a geo-location thing, only Europeans could connect or some nonsense. I don't know if it has any merit, though. Baaleos 0
I'm working on a project to make an interconnected VPN for gaming. SacredOpen is a stepping stone to this. Composed of master server, daemons (game manager servers) and clients. Some of it will be release source code wise. But I'm not keen on releasing all the code. Link to comment

This would be a completely different undertaking, however. This would simply require changing NETWORK_LOBBY to our custom server, emulating the official Sacred servers. No VPN software and configuring necessary. MUCH more streamlined and simple. Though do not take my words as saying your efforts don't have any merit, I believe you are doing a great job continuing the multiplayer experience of Sacred, but there are also other solutions.
