Can Public Games Be Tons of Fun?

Recommended Posts

Hey there guys, didn't know where else to post these but they are some boss battles (in normal mind you) from Acts III-IV. I found a really solid group of guys to play with and I was with them for multiple gaming sessions which made it a really cool experience. Granted public games can be dangerous, but they can also be a ton of fun with skills flying in every direction! Well sit back and enjoy the selection :D

ryan, this is awesome. You've captured the essence of public games. The thrill of seeing all the skills in action, the interplay tween members, and the feeling of satisfaction when a job is well done. I've been in love with the public games since game release, in fact, If I can't find soemone to play with I probably won't play, as the game seems completely alien to me without another soul a part of it.

When I lose a toon, jumping right into public servers carries me along on the "Experience Wave" and, while playing, I get to look at other players's builds, ask them about their dps and see how they run their classes as a comparison.

You're a true convert now, and it's either clan or public for you now too... addict!

And how great that you were able to hook up with a great group of sensible, supportive players. I'm going to say that you're a big part of it, and players like you who contribute to playing with fairness and devotion create great gaming experiences for all.

Bravo Ryan

I use them regularly at low levels. Course the "trick" is you want to get someone in your party that's your level with massive over powered damage to power you and the gang through those levels.

Course, if you're an excited and DPS conscientious player, later on, this kind of works against you. It's been a number of times now that I get into a group and give them the quick flush, while I run off to look for another one after checking out their DPS's...

If they're too low, and it loox like it's going to be me carrying them, I'm outta there!

With Temper on this one.....I just can't bring myself to play in a public game. Especially HC....I don't want to basically entrust my character's health on someone I don't know at all. From what I've read on forums it seems bailing or going perpetually afk is the norm. Now that's not to say there aren't a lot of good folks playing in public games, I just don't have the desire to find them :)

Most of the attitude comes from Diablo2. Higher level players would routinely enter games and 'grief' the other players. Griefing simply means that player would go hostile (usually at the worst time) and attack you. After a few of those games I went private and never went back. Luckily griefing is no longer possible. Though many try to trade scam.

Not sure how it works but it seems to involve item stacks or multiple items. Somehow they can remove items after you hit 'Accept' for the trade. There are several threads on d3 forum about people being ripped off for millions.

Glad you found some good players to play with ryan ( and gogo..I know you like them too). I'm going to stick with private games, though anyone in my friends list is welcome to join any game I'm in. And any person reading this can PM me and I'll provide my battle.tag.

Actually Knuckles, griefing is alive and well, even without pvp enabled.

There are groups of sad people that will join your game, one guy at first, then he gets his friends to join the game. They proceed to play as normal until getting to a difficult spot. Then they co-ordinate rebuking all support (buffs, damage and whatever)Hit their escape/immune skills and let you to die. It's not a new technique by any means, but it never gets old for people like that.

Often they post their glorious feats on youtube.I wont post any vids as that just encourages them.

It was the "every man for himself" mentality that turned me off public games. I will join a friend in a public game, but would never play public without someone I know I can count on.

Yea, just gotta be extra careful and go into public games with a grain of salt. Some people just do not have any gaming manners unfortunately :(

I guess where there's a will they will find a way. I did see something similar to this. I guy posted a vid on the D3 forum showing him in Whimyshire. He had a public game going and people would enter the game and port to him. He would then just run through the enemies and double back to the person who joined. From the looks of it, he spent all night doing this and no idea how many characters he killed this way, but it was at least 3-4 dozen.

Very sad to see the D2 mentality has set into D3. I half suspected this would occur, but was hopeful the new *younger generation* D3 gamers would outnumber & outlast the old addicted D2 gamers. One must remember the age of D2 to fully understand my point of view. Playing D2 for over 10 years constantly. With countless stories to tell of the corruption, if you will, that not only carried on patch after patch, but thrived. Now I am 34 and totally over the entire decade. Fun while it lasted however. Moving on...very disappointed others with a similar age have not either moved on or grown up.

The Diablo series is dark, dank & gritty. Which I love the genre. *Think Grim Dawn* One must assume the same personality will follow suit.

After quietly reading many topics and posts here on the FDM, regarding D3. I can now say without a shadow of a doubt, I am wholeheartedly finsihed with the Diablo franchise. After a pause from the game *D2* and looking back in retrospect. I can appreciate the magnitude of the corruption.

Like ryan said, "with a grain of salt". Well said & understood. In the years that follow I will seek greener pastures.

Congrats to ryan for finding kindred spirits. The videos look like wicked fun!

Long live Sacred 2 & the community!

I remain, :paladin:
