Guild Wars 2 - FDM Home Server

Recommended Posts

FDM Home Server

Ferguson's Crossing - Primary

Northern Shiverpeaks - Backup

The official server list has been published, so I see no reason to put off the question of picking a home server any longer. The two servers I chose are new, and I chose them in the hope that this close to release most guilds will have already designated a home server and therefore these new servers are more likely to not fill up during head start.

Based on an interview published last month (see here), there is a good chance there will be some free server transfers upon release. If the unfortunate happens, and our first pick fills up, I hope we can use those free transfers to rally on the backup.

I hope we'll have free transfers or easy-to-use guesting feature so we can all play together.

You may want to skip a line between the names of the two servers, I don't know what's wrong with the forum fonts, but on my side the names of the servers partly overlap on your post.

Very nice luhate. I haven't been able to keep up on the GW2 news but I do intend to completely immerse myself into it shortly after it's released. Thanx so much for making this choice an easy one for us and all the other news you've been brining. Lookin forward to enjoying this great big new world. :D

You'll have so much fun, I guarantee. By the way, would it be possible to setup a mini countdown timer (just like the one we used for the Sacred 2 Events) to remind future GW2 players that the release is soon and that now is the time to tell their ideas/opinions?

...

From the GW2 wiki:

Guesting

Players will be able to visit other worlds as guests as long as they have friends on those worlds. This feature is free, but guest players will not be able to enter World versus World PvP and the power of the Mists bonuses from their home world will continue to apply to their characters

So being split across home servers would not be the end of the world. There are (likely) issues with guilds being split across home servers. This quote was allegedly posted by one of the devs on the official forums (the forums were already closed before I was able to verify its validity):

“Yes, a guild can have members from any number of worlds. They will be making guild progress (e.g. upgrade and influence) towards their guild only the the world they’re playing in, though, so the influence isn’t shared between the different versions of the guilds in other home worlds. You will share a roster, and chat, and the normal social features with everyone regardless of their home world, though.”

Okay, are there any last second worries about Ferguson Crossing?

Seems to have very low body count when compared to other servers and several of the guilds are International. It should be noted I really do not have problems with international personnel - I married a Brit and have a British mother-in-law (who I actually like) and I have a brother-in-law who is a Canadian.

Just asking the question. I go where the guild goes.

I am fine going with our original plan play, I posted for informational reasons only. It's likely that by Monday it will be full or if the population is low they will merge us into another server.

Love how we are on that list and with 15 members anticipated at release. Surprisingly informative that listing is!

I added FDM at Kiyeri's suggestion. For anyone who has not seen it, here is the FDM page. I filled in just the required fields, and figured we could go back later and make additions/corrections.

I have always participated in these types of websites for guild/legion/linkshell/etc. prior to release of new games. They are user based, but have always been reasonably accurate... I must admit tho, that this is the first time I have been in on a FTP game at release time.

When I saw that some server will have 70+ guilds in them, I told myself that not all of them will be able to pick the server. So they'll need to move to another server (our home server), so we might end up with powerful guilds that kick butts in WvWvW. :paladin:

I'm posting this here so every GW players will know. Until September 12, the Celebration Hat you've seen us dancing with here and here will be free of charge in the Gem Store. Here'e the official quote :

To commemorate the launch of Guild Wars 2, we’re making a special hat available to all players for free! The Celebration Hat is a baseball cap with the iconic Guild Wars 2 dragon logo—a stylish addition to your town attire!

You can find the Celebration Hat in the Black Lion Trading Company in the ‘Style’ category by pressing ‘O’ while playing the game. The hat is available at the cost of zero gems. The Celebration Hat cannot be traded to other players. The hat can be worn by any character on your account.

The Celebration Hat will only be available from August 25 (during Headstart) through September 12, so don’t wait! Just enter the Black Lion Trading Company before September 12 to get one!

Awesome!

Thanks for posting this Max. I want to collect one of these, and would surely have missed out on it without your post. :)
