Sacred2Launcher.zip not available anymore?

Recommended Posts

Hello folks!

So I was looking around for the Sacred 2 Launcher since I needed the auto-Ctrl+F1 thingy and noticed I couldn't find a working link anywhere online. I then realised I have it on my PC from a long time ago. Does anyone know why it's not available for download anymore?

Another thing that someone might be able to help with is when I start the launcher(I'm using the Steam version of Sacred 2) it wrongly detects the executable path(D:\Applications\Steam\steamapps\common\Sacred 2 Goldsystem\sacred2.exe - note there is no \ between Gold and system). How do I go about correcting this?

Much appreciated,

K.

Hmm.. Good question. Truth be told, I have no clue as to why it's not available at this time. But... I have put in a note to Marcuswob and Czevak and we should hear back from them shortly.

in the meantime... If you're trying to launch from a standard desktop icon, or one from the Start Menu, the fix should be relatively easy. Assuming there should be a \ between Gold and System, it's only a matter of right-clicking on the icon on the desktop and selecting it's Properties. On the Shortcut tab, you should see a text field that's called Target and the path to the executable (sacred2.exe) should be in there. Simply edit the path to include the \ where it's needed.

You can also verify the location by clicking on the Open File Location button below that. If the path is correct, it should pop open an instance of Windows Explorer to that folder and should highlight sacred2.exe in the process.

I'm not sure I understand what you mean there. However what I mean is I start the Sacred 2 Launcher and then click Launch within the launcher. However the game will not start because the path shown in the launcher is incorrect and I am not able to edit it...

Welcome to DarkMatters, btw..

AH.. I see. That IS different...

Since I don't have a copy, I have no idea how it's supposed to work - but I did update your issue - and hopefully someone will be along soon enough with a fix.

Not a techie so if I understand you wrong...ignore everything after this :)

If your steam version will not launch....open up the Steam window (double click on desktop icon) and click on Library. Right click on Sacred 2 Gold and select Properties. Click on the Local Files tab and then click on Verify Integrity of Game Cache..

That procedure worked when Grim Dawn update broke a file and I couldn't start the game.....maybe it'll help you or least point you in the right direction

Thanks for that but I have no problem launching the game from Steam, only from Steam through the Launcher...

Thanks to you also Wolf for the welcome ;)

I could upload it but since the original uploader removed/disabled the file I'm not sure if I'd get into any problems re-uploading it... Any idea who is the creator of it?

If it's the SAME one that I think it is (I did a search on the 'net and found a few different ones) - the program was created by Marcuswob - one of the creators of the CM Patch. The link I followed was from the thread on that subject here on DarkMatters - and it lead me to a RapidShare page where the download was disabled by the author.

Otherwise.. I have no clue.

As for uploading files... I'm not sure what the story on that file is either. Let's wait a bit and find out what IS up with the file and why the download was disabled first. Then we'll go from there.

Ask and ye shall receive!

Just heard back from Marcuswob on this. The Sacred 2 Launcher (his version) looks in the registry for the location of sacred2.exe. If it's wrong there, the launcher will not find the file.

Waiting to hear back on the exact key he has it looking at. I'll let you know when I hear back from him on this.

Further update from Marcuswob...

1.) He checked out the problem with Rabidswear - apparently they changed a policy and that's why the file stopped being available. It's now fixed and ready to download...

2.) He also got back to me regarding the registry entry that needs to be checked...

Mind you, messing about with the registry CAN cause problems. Be VERY careful with what you do in the registry...

Depending on if you're using XP or Vista or 7 or 8, launching Regedit is slightly different.

If you've got XP, click Start | Run and type in RegEdit.exe and click OK

If you've got Vista or 7, click Start and type RegEdit.exe in the run box at the bottom of the menu. Select it and run the program.

If you've got Windows 8, open what passes for the Start Menu and type Regedit.exe - it will search and find it for you. Select and run the program.

Vista, 7 and 8 will complain by throwing up the UAC box asking if you really want to run this program, click yes.

Once you've got it open, find HKEY Local Machine and click on the little arrow or + sign next to it to open the tree up.

Under the HKey_Local_Machine section look for Software. Likewise, click it open.

Under Software, look for Ascaron Entertainment. Likewise, click it open

Under Ascaron Entertainment look for Sacred 2. Click on Sacred 2.

On the right side, you should see a few items. The most important one right now is the Install path... To make it easier, since you've already provided the path in your post, we'll use yours.

It should say "InstallPath" on the left and on the right, it should read "D:\Applications\Steam\steamapps\common\Sacred 2 Gold\"

Important note - you should see the final \ following the word Gold in the above path. If there isn't a \ there, then that's the problem.

IF, and only IF there's no \ at the end of the above path, do the following:

Right-Click on Installpath and select Modify. This will pop up a small dialog box so you can modify the value in that registry key.

In the Value Data box, go to the very end of the line and hit the \ key once to add the character. Click OK to close the box.

Now then.. There is one other location we need to look. On the left hand side of the Registry editor - click on Sacred 2 then press the LEFT Arrow key on your keyboard until you're back up to HKey Local Machine.

Next look for HKey_Current_User. Click that one open and look for Software and click it open as well.

Look for Ascaron Entertainment below that one, and click it open. Look for Sacred 2 and click on that one.

The procedure is going to be the same. Look for the InstallPath key and check the value. It should read: "D:\Applications\Steam\steamapps\common\Sacred 2 Gold\"

Once again, check to make sure there's a \ character at the end of the path. If there isn't one, we need to add one by Right-Clicking on InstallPath and selecting Modify. Next, move the mouse to the end of the path and click in the Value Data box so you can put the \ at the end of the path.

Click OK and close everything up. At this point try running the Sacred 2 Launcher. It should be working properly now.

Thanks for the extensive reply. I am however very familiar with regedit and Windows though! I don't have the entries you refer to. Maybe it only counts for the non-Steam version and/or a different locale of Sacred 2 or possibly a different OS...

I searched the registry extensively, and found the correct entry to edit(for me). This entry (again, for me)resides in HKEY_LOCAL MACHINE -> SOFTWARE -> Wow6432Node -> Ascaron Entertainment -> Sacred 2. For the record I have Windows 7 Ultimate x64 and the UK version of Sacred 2 Ice & Blood. Adding a \ to the end has fixed the launcher problem for me!

SWEET! I wasn't sure what you had there - or your experience level with Regedit.. Had to cover my bases..

I'll pass that info on along to the developers and let them know... They may be able to implement a quick and dirty bug fix...
