Through the Never

Recommended Posts

I was carving elfstones for a Shannara fan last night when I looked up to see the preview for the new Metallica movie. As I understand it, Through the Never is two movies in one; a live concert documentary and a sci-fi apocalypse that doesn't have dialogue. So, the concert is going on inside, and riots and the apocalypse is going on outside. The apocalypse part interests me even though there's no spoken dialogue, but the Metallica part..... I think I'll wait to see if this comes to Netflix

So it's modern-day Metallica playing live? It's kinda painful to watch them play live since the late 90's. Hetfield's voice is just gone, Hammet's guitar solos are all sloppy and covered by a wah-wah pedal...really wish they had done more professional recordings of their heydey in the late 80's/early 90's.

Yeah, it's modern day Metallica. I agree about their live show, I saw them in the mid 90s, what a big disappointment. Inside vs outside..... I'd probably prefer to be outside, Different religions have different views on the apocalypse. In one view, the dead are supposed to walk the earth again, and I think it would be sweet to have a beer with Layne Staley. Yeah, he'd probably be a zombie, and he'd probably try to eat my brains, depending on which view you have of zombies, but it would still be pretty sweet for a few seconds. Plus , I'd prefer the instant death of the apocalypse over like a two hour torture of a Metallica concert. I'm still in good fighting form, maybe I'd get to go toe to toe with something freaky before I was slain

Even if I was a Metallica fan, I'd still prefer to be outside. Apocalypes means death for everyone anyway, so I'd prefer to charge it head on, rather than hide like a mouse in a wall

Yeah, sorry about that, I've had that song stuck in my head since I made the post. No biggie for a Metallica fan, but I'm not. I used to be a huge Metallica fan. But I went to my first Metallica concert...... in 94 if I'm not mistaken. The band got hissed and cursed off the stage for making fun of "Man in the Box" and Layne Staley. I remember thinking "First of all, Man in the Box is my all time favorite song, and in my eyes blows anything from Metallica out of the water." It still does, I had Man in the Box inked on me the day Staley was found. Anyway, "Second of all, those are pretty big stones to throw for a man who lives in a glass house and drinks from the same cup." I left any positive feelings for that band at that concert. But the point in all this is from an unbiased point of view, the movie might not be bad. It's supposed to be a live-action concert, but I read where it's not, it's actually footage of old concerts. But the whole thing is in 3D, so they might have been able to doctor up the fact that Hetfield's voice isn't what it used to be.

Oh, yeah they're always finding a way to be buttholes it seems. That's one reason I'm always reluctant to get to know the personalities artists I love. It can retroactively taint the art sometimes. I'll probably give the movie a watch when I can get on my computer.

Can't agree about Man in the Box though. I like Alice in Chains well enough, just not that song. The best things I've heard from them were "Again" and "Would".

EDIT: We have the most $%*^&$ auto-censoring on this forum.

I totally respect that. "I Stay Away" is also one of my favorites. "Would" is in my top five, too. Not fond of "Again". My favorite artist that I got to know is Sting. I had a chance to talk to him once upon a time, I was already a fan, but after having talked with him, I went away thinking "wow, what a good guy"
