Christmas Egg Nog or not

Recommended Posts

Do any of you guys drink this stuff?

It comes out annually in grocery store near me, and we kind of stock up a bit on it. I know it's just about the most horrible thing to dink over the holidays, but noone's ever made a home made egg nog for me

Grew up drinking it with just the requisite 'splash" of goodness from a passing adult or doting uncle, but as that eventful year of 18 came close and passed by, the splash got rather large

I'm down in the states this Christmas, but look what my mom picked up:

Selfmade liqueur from egg counts? However it is not just x-mas, base for some most girly cocktails at after-ski in the alpes.

Best is to mix the yolks with the alcohol alone first. Leaving it for 3 days to kill all possible salmonella. Eierlikoer has many uses, makes a great cake for example.

I've never tasted store bought egg nog, but I did make egg nog last year for Christmas. the recipe that we used had to be kept in the fridge for at least 4 weeks and had to be stirred/whisked every second day to prevent the eggs from curdling. once the 4 weeks was up, I added it to our ice cream base, and churned it into an egg nog ice cream that was served with a traditional Christmas pudding on Christmas day. We made a 5L container of egg nog base and added that to 10L ice cream base. Once churned it turned into 19L of ice cream, we only used about 12L on Christmas day, the rest we sold as one of our gelato flavours, but I'm afraid the rest of the staff and I ate more than we sold...

In the hotel/restaurant industry, most people smoke, drink or take drugs to handle with the stress. I say that is sooooooo unneccessary, since I don't smoke, and have never taken anything more than a ganja brownie, and only on occasion do I drink some wine or maybe a few shots, shooters, cocktails, liquer...

Theuns, nog is a big part of Commercial Christmas around here. I'd a loved to have tried something as delicious as what you guys made though.

I was in service for around 10 years, and a heavey smoker. Seemed like everyone was doing it.

quit two (or three) years ago) never looked back!
