So I Made an 'Unbended' Preview Video

Recommended Posts

I like the video. I don't like something that the guy in the interview said, but that doesn't reflect on you: "imagine the male form of a succubus." Yeah, that's an incubus, something I've BEGGED to play for years. Incubi and succubi in human form are very pleasing to the members of the opposite sex, because of the nature of their intent. They don't rape, they seduce, because it was believed that the offspring of rape are weaker than the offspring of a mutually consented encounter. They want their offspring strong, because only half-human, half demon offspring have the power to be at the front lines to storm heaven's gates. So the human form of an incubus would have been around 6'4", rugged, muscular, broad chested, debonair, with just the right amount of danger to be sexy, and shoulder length blonde or black hair. He would not be red with horns and a skimpy outfit like how we envision a succubus, which is also an incorrect. A female succubus would have been around 5'6", with full lips (but not with that porno pout look), icy blue or emerald green eyes, with long, shiny, flowing blonde or chestnut hair, C to H cup breasts, graceful shoulders, with fingers not freakishly long, but long enough to play a guitar or harp. She would not appear anorexic, nor would she be a big tubbo, maybe 100, 115 lbs. She'd have alabaster skin in human form. In demon form, neither succubi or incubi have horns, hooves, or tails as we see in the little cartoon drawings, and they're not red, their skin is almost bile colored, but they rarely reveal that form to humans, as they consider us unworthy for us to gaze upon their true form, ans well as a few obvious reasons.

You might think "Gilbey, how in the WORLD.........?" Well, let's just say I've read scripts far more ancient and authentic than Wikipedia and junk that someone wrote in red ink that he claims is authentic, but is actually just a hallucination he had after a few too many beers while watching "The Craft" and "Suprenatural" one too many times.

I'm not saying they actually exist, I'm saying the original lore of the Succubus and Incubus is far different than what we consider the "traditional" lore to be.

Learn something every day! I had no idea that there was an official name for Incubus before I looked up a screenshot for the video. Honestly you've painted a much better picture (more accurate too!) in my mind of how these creatures are supposed to be portrayed. The same demon succubus lady idea has been drilled into most of our heads, never even thought to question outside of that. You mentioned reading old scripts, do you remember what language they were in by any chance? Caught my interest :D

Ryan, I'll tell you something, boss. You have always treated me with respect, without blowing sunshine up my pants. I like that, respect without being a brown-noser. I don't like to cross my real world experiences TOO much with online. However, since you've been cool, I'll shoot you a PM in about 45 mins. I've just discovered there's a new season of Doctor Who, and I was just about to start episode 3 of season 7, the one with the Gunslinger, who has an arm cannon kind of like our beloved TG. So, I do have an answer for you, I'll shoot it to you in about 50 minutes.

Thanks for the video and the overview. I haven't been following it that closely. This will be useful to show to English speakers who don't know much about this game yet. Still not sure if I feel comfortable sending any money to it.

I've got to agree the "defined roles are important, can you imagine a male succubus?" tidbit made me cringe too Gilberticus. I actually think the incubus is generally more interesting.

Ironically it was your Item Mod thread I was looking at when I made that comment. Those new Scythes caught my attention :butcher:

Edit: I think it would be a cool idea for them to allow a package between the 29-99 euro one and make it create a weapon (flavor text, stats, etc.). I might shell out for something like that, but with mod tools some people might consider it trivial.

Yes, this one looks silly out of context.

Crap, you're right Silver I dropped the bucket on this one. I think I might add in an annotation mentioning to read the interview during that part. You do an excellent job of describing what I wanted to say here, so I'll try to paraphrase you as best as possible :)

Looks good Ryan.

What exactly is an isometric camera? Is that the fixed, downward angle camera like in D3 and PoE?

Yessir, although technically it doesn't have to be fixed, 10/10 games are because it significantly lowers the graphics power needed as you only need to render/draw textures for 180 degrees of the object. Which is actually pretty beneficial for kickstarter projects to put resources towards other items.

That makes sense, and considering the popularity of D3 & PoE, most people probably do not take the same dim view of that camera style as I do.

Ryan, I'm so so sorry I did not post to this video as soon as it went up. I'm just amazed at the time and detail you put into this, with so little you had. This pretty much defines what fan means to us, and creating content and buzz for what we've all been waiting for honors us. Your voice is great, I say give us more!

I've also brought this topic into the new Unbended section... do you think we need a Video section made now as well?

:)

Too much hype, speculation and promises -> cant live up to expectations -> crash and burn.

Keep the flow to a reasonable pace and the expectations aimed to "Alpha release = Lots and lots of bugs dragons"

I'm hoping for both, perhaps even bugs riding dragons :o
