How do you play?

Recommended Posts

I don't mean "How should I play", like I'm looking for advice on a build, I mean how do you play? I know what some of the vets of the game do, I'm curious as to what our newer players do. Here's a scenario: Flix puts out a new mod that gives every race three new armor sets, and he's got.....oh.....60 or 70 new weapons. If you're like me, you have to have a character for every single armor set, not to mention the unique armors, plus I don't like multiple characters using the same weapons. On top of that, I try to vary how I mod the combat arts, I don't like 20 shadow warriors who do the exact same thing the exact same way. Plus, I like to create my own little back-stories for each of my characters. I may no longer be an English major, but I'll always be a storyteller at heart. So, you've got 21 new characters you want to put into the game, all with different weapons, how do you go about getting them all into the game?

Once upon a time, I'd take one character at a time and send them all the way through the game. But that got stale fairly quick. There's so many awesome armors and weapons, I don't want to stay glued to just one character for an extended period of time. So , then I'd take every character and set them up just with the basics. That sucked for me , too, bouncing back and forth between players got confusing. I sometimes have problems with short term memory due to damage in my temporal lobe. I don't know how many characters I've deleted because I can't remember who they are or what they're supposed to do.

So, the solution I came up with (that I'm very proud of) is a simple word document. Everything I'll ever need to know about every character I made or plan on making is right there: hero number, name, armor, weapons, combat arts, his back story, the whole shebang. I can walk away from this game for years, then come back and resume right where I left off. In fact, I haven't played the game for the last several months, I've played Illarion. I can't remember a single character I've made from the game. But all I got to do is open my word document, and I'm good to go. In fact, I want to play today, now that I have the newest item mod downloaded. I rotate my characters by using a random number generator. Today, it says I'm playing number 27, which word says that's my Sinister Minister. Now I never worry about armor and weapons because I have all of those in zip files. He's one of the few characters that I decided to use our character guides with, but I have that bookmarked under his name on my smartphone.

So, that's what I do: document everything so I have to remember nothing. I'm curious as to how others rotate their characters in and out of the game and how they keep track of everyone.

I like Jack of all trades characters. The current character is a Dragon Mage. He does some metamorphosis.

First played in berzerker shape. Modified Berserker shape and the protective buffs to be save when berserk drops.

Then playing with dragon strike recharged with reg by hit at groups and berserk only at bosses or fire immunes.

Then using a x% life leech weapon, reg per hit and mind strike at bosses wearing Pyx set.

Then energy blaze at groups, mindstrike and life leech at bosses wearing the mentalism set.

Currently I am wearing the elementalism set because of its combat art range bonus and filled chance to halve reg times in the slots to play as a real caster, not using reg per hit or a weapon attack at all and I am back to use dragon strike because the dragon has nearly no cooldown anymore and has now a radius to hit places he was blocked before.

...

Planed: trying to do groups and bosses with maelstrom/mindstrike combinations and using longer duration of potions equipment to have concentration potions lasting some minutes.

When I started I did a character for every idea. Now I have most fun to change existing characters into something else by optimizing equipment for another playstyle.

I did just 19 characters in all these years. But I remember every of them because each is unique.
