Help I'm stuck

So I'm stuck at this gate I've tried turning the wheel I'm standing in front of but nothing has happened.

The only quest marker thing is on the other side and here is no other switches or anything around so what do I do to get the gate to open?

Light Path or Shadow Path? Light Path leads you through a tunnel under the door. The gate willl always be locked for a Light Path character. Shadow Path should open the doors for you after you talk to the Inquisitor guard NPC. Clicking the door itself should also open/close them. This only happens when you get to this part of the main storyline however.

I vaguely remember a bug report regarding the door not opening when it should have but I thought it was multiplayer only.

 

If you use Enhanced Spells you could also just use Belligerent Vault to leap over the wall. You may be able to do that in the vanilla game too, can't remember.

I actually don't remember which path I took, I think I took light path I think.

When I went to the cave labatory I clicked on the table and the screen shook and I said "oh ooh" but nothing else happened.

And I have triend leaping over the wall but that hasn't worked either

Probably you just haven't got to that part of the main quest line. Check the log and see where you're at. This is one of a few instances where you have to advance the main quest to continue on to the next region.

and the Quest on the other side isn't worth it (you get 100 gold). it is only a funny side-kick for Germans.
