Free Witcher 2 to give away - best before 2014-12-22

Recommended Posts

Good morning, gamers.

I recently came into possession of a redemption code for The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings. This code will entitle the owner to freely download (as often as you like) a totally DRM-free version of the game (almost 16 GB total for the english version) and some aditional goodies (see GoG page for more languages and other details).

You would have to make an account on GoG, which means giving them an email address that actually works and then activate the code, no further action needed.

Also, this code will expire on December 31st (2014), hence I will give it away on or before December 22nd.

Now, I could make you jump through some crazy hoops or whatever, but I bet it will work out way better if I let you all just talk a while in here. I could say I'll reward the craziest idea - 'I will get "FREAK" tattooed on my forehead' anyone? - but then again, I mainly want the code to not go to waste. So, shoot!

Edit: so far, we have

  • Hooyaah: bribery by nice... trousers
  • gogoblender, one plate of poutine behind
  • Veracious got two allies, simplicity and honesty

Great offer!

I know Witcher 2 was on a lot of peeps' hot list for gaming, and you're going to make someone happy!

I propose someone make a video of themselves eating a plate of poutine

oops, don't have poutine where you guys live?

awwww

I propose that you have a friend try this brave, daring, and potentially awkward social experiment.

I'm pretty sure you could get her to do 'the walk' for you, provided you find the right incentive.

Well, are you volunteering?

I've never played witcher and can't currently afford to buy any new games.

So far, things are looking good for you. In the mean time, why don't you try Witcher.1 to get acquainted with Geralt.

Ha ha! No, I meant that perhaps she would do the walk for you. It's surprising how no one in the video (save the fellow at the end) knew what the heck was going on.

Perhaps another manner in which I may successfully entreat you to get the goods is to mention that I like my privacy too much to use my Steam account to download games (last time I was going to do so, they insisted on having my physical address - why? I'm downloading the game; I'm not ordering a pizza!). Additionally, I don't like putting my credit card info out there just to buy online. >.< Besides, I need something to pull me away from playing Ice & Blood, if only once in a while. I'm still quite hopelessly psychologically addicted to the game. (help me... please)

GOG [...] TW1 is currently available for $5.

Was 1.19 EUR some two hours ago, iirc.

I guess most people don't care about others, only their own problems. Then there's the polite ones, who just don't stare. And then there might be some editing in favor of one or the other outcome.

It's really amazing what data they need and want and keep and sell. However, I don't think steam is the problem. As I see it, they're just the tip of the iceberg. It gets really interesting when you find out who else has data about you and what kind of data. Here in Germany we have a law that enables you to request a complete list of your data from any company once a year, for free. Nice idea, but rather pointless, when you think about it. First, how do I know they don't lie to me and second - how should I know who actually has data about me in the first place?

And then there is at least something good you can say about steam: the client makes it easier to play on different machines and some games at least can use their technology, so they don't have to invent the wheel over and over again.

However, I fail to see the benefit (for me that is) in companies selling/exchanging my data.

I think that you nailed it there.

Indeed, collecting one's data benefits the collector solely. Unless, one desires the procurement of one's information in order to have a "better experience" and be served up with adverts and solicitations based on what tracking data they acquire.

Google.com tracks every search (which they manipulate), they read your email, they even track you with their [G+]-buttons, same as facebook.

Between Chrome, Drive and Gmail on my phone they can

  • add or remove accounts, use accounts on the device
  • modify or delete the contents of your USB storage
  • change your audio settings, record audio
  • find accounts on the device
  • toggle sync on and off
  • read your contacts
  • read subscribed feeds
  • download files without notification
Sure, one might think they need all that stuff for whatever they're providing as service. But then again, how do I know what else they are doing? And then there's still the question of if/how/when they sell said data.

Enabling 'do not track' did net me adsense stuff exclusively from my amazon wishlist. Oh and since I'm using a XY IP at work, I get ads for XY products.

On the other hand, I can't even sync my phone with a NTP server without some sort of jailbreak because google has 'security concerns'.

Anyways, I don't really consider that as 'free'.

And boy, did I derail this thread. Sorry, guys!

It is your thread, but it was more of a sidetrack event than a derailment. Still I followed your train of thought all the way to the end of the line. Perhaps you are wise to indicate that we should stay on track so that we aren't railroaded out of here by the conductor. So, that having been said, let's just keep chugging ahead toward the destination to determine who shall be awarded the prize and station their free copy of Witcher 2 on their hard drive.

Well, I suppose that my intolerable slew of puns killed this thread and the "best by" date has come and gone. Merry Christmas to all, regardless.

I'm not exactly sure what different types of calendars are out there, but last time looked 2014-12-22 is still three days away.

Gadzooks, my good man, methinks, my mind hath indeed had its play with me. For, most regrettably here in the state in which I find myself, the date is commonly written as (month/day/year) whilst in other civilized society it is designated as (year/month/day) or oft (day/month/year) dependent on whether it be Big endian, Little endian, or Middle endian. Prithee wouldst thou forgive my foolish and flippant disregard for verity and most overly casual discernment which led me to err so most egregiously? Forsooth, I shall have to moderate my consumption of eggnog going forward.

Most people tend to speak large numbers in a somewhat useful manner, going from biggest to smallest, like one thousand -> three hundred -> thirty -> six. Now it bugged me for some time that you couldn't name things by date and have it sorted correctly, hence I decided to do the only logical thing: going from biggest (year) to smallest (day) and leave the rest in the middle. Took some getting used to, but at least it's working. Most of the time.

I thought it was obvious, but then it was probably just obvious for me. Sorry for that.

Now, for the more interesting part: where did I put those redemption codes...

- Allright, since I can't edit the first post, I'll have to do it here -

For the thousands in attendance, and the millions watching around the world, the winner of the Twothousand-fourteen Witcher 2 Heavyweight Givaway-ship is:

Hooyaah

Also, I noticed it's 'Witcher 2' (read: TWO), therefore we obviously need two winners. So, without forther ado, the winner of the Twothousand-fourteen Witcher 2 Heavyweight Givaway-ship is:

Veracious

And gogoblender: either I missed your video or it got snatched by the NSA or something. If you didn't send it, you have nothing further to do. If however you did send it and some Higher Power interfered, said Higher Power (me, basically) will find a (probably very strange) way to make up for it.
