wolfie2kX 528
Seems SyFy has a fondness for the name of our favorite site... But not for the reasons why most of us come here. They have a new show on the tube called "Dark Matter" and it's about 6 apparent strangers who wake up on a space ship without a clue as to who they are. The page for the show can be found here 1 Link to comment
gogoblender 3,042
Have you watched any of this new series, Wolfie? Also, wasn't there another series before, a kind of weird, off center examination of crazy spooky experimentation and history from the past? gogo Link to comment
wolfie2kX 528
Not as yet.. but the first episode is available online.. And yes, there was - which is why I said SyFy has a fondness for the name Dark Matters. It was hosted by the crazy old guy from Fringe - John Noble. Dark Matters - Twisted But True lasted 2 seasons a few years ago. Link to comment
SX255 630
Well, it is a great spooky name for a detective story. And "Black Substances" just sounds... wrong. 1 Link to comment
Popular Post Flix 5,116
People like it because of the two meanings of the word "matter." It's a play on the words. It also has sci-fi connotations, and when you combine that with spooky things, the two meanings of the term "Dark Matter" become one. By the way, how did it ever become the name of a Sacred fansite? What was the thought process behind it? 3 Link to comment

wolfie2kX 528
It seems the android from Dark Matter is in fact, the gal who plays (played?) Dr Lauren Lewis on Lost Girl Link to comment
Popular Post wolfie2kX 528
OK.. So.. I suppose I should write a brief review of the story so far... As previously reported, it's a story about 6 people who wake up on a spaceship without any memory of who they are, but they have bad arse fighting skills. Turns out they're a bunch of pirates, smugglers, thieves, and other assorted lowlife. They also have an android - see the previous post. It seems they're not really the heartless thugs this galactic corporation that hired them to kill this bunch of miners on this planet where the asteroid belt around the planet that's loaded with ore the corporation wants. The miners, however, are non-aligned to any of the big galactic corporations. And, as such, they're in the way. So, the corporation sent these guys in there to wipe out the colony. In the 3rd episode, the members of the team, arrive at the planet in question. And yet, when they get there, they don't have any interest in wiping out a bunch of unarmed colonists. So, they decide to give the colonists part of their stockpile of weapons in order to give them a fighting chance. While down on the planet, the Big Bad corporation's dreadnoughts arrive in orbit and are kind of confused as to why these mercenaries haven't wiped out the colony. The Big Bads send a shuttle down to the planet to clean up their mess. The mercs, of course, wind up helping the miners out. All in all, the story so far, meh... It's typical SyFy schlock. it's not really all that compelling. It's weakly written. The only thing going for it are the special effects. But hey, I'm a bit jaded.. lol 2 Link to comment

It comes off as being...plastic. It comes off as if the actors are phoning it in instead of being on the set and actually trying to make it believable. Or interesting. Take for instance, the characters from Stargate SG-1. The cast made the characters come alive. These guys... They have no passion. Even Zoie Palmer - the gal who previously played Lauren - the doctor from Lost Girl comes off as less than human. Granted, she plays an android, but still. Brent Spiner played Data - also an android - with much more engaging and interesting effect. I dunno.. if you want a wild and crazy pirate adventure - check out One Piece.. 1 Link to comment
gogoblender 3,042
This discussion got me thinking about old school, good sci fi series... as of yesterday I consider myself officially addicted to Heroes... dunno how I missed that years back, but I find it has weathered well, and the music and writing is terrific. As well, a small dollop on the side.. ever heard of "The lost Room?" The review on it is interesting, in fact, eerie? And it's just a wee mini series... enough to much on in a quick afternoon gogo Link to comment
