2 Questions for somebody who is just starting with 2 friends

Recommended Posts

I installed the community patch.

1. To start, should we JUST go through the campaign? After this, is there a set of content in some order we should go through?

2. Is Blacksmithing / Crafting in general worth it at all? Are their guides out there?

Last, any tips and tricks I should know before going in? Things you wish you knew your first time around?

*edit*

Also, do I have to worry about any of the expansion stuff right away? Light/Dark path type stuff?

Hello!

1. I'd follow the campaign, yeah. It does a good job of steadily moving you through each region sequentially. Feel free to branch out and hit some side quests. Some of the chain quests are fun and rewarding, as well as the mini-boss "quests" (I.e., "go kill that thing").

2. Forging using the Smith NPC is pretty much indispensable. If you mean taking the Blacksmithing skill yourself, eh... it's alright. It's the same as using the Smith, except you have more freedom in what items can go in which sockets, and it gives better values for the bonuses, and after mastery a chance to remove a socketed item without destroying the other socketed items. And of course it's free since you're doing the smithing yourself.

I usually save the expansion areas for the end of the campaign. They can be initiated whenever, all you have to do is sail there from a port.

The main quest and the character class quests are really the only things affected by Light/Shadow path. I don't know if the class-specific quests are even available in multiplayer.

I'm full accord for following campaign. As Flix says, it moves you through the regions and keeps you leveling up while learning about the game mechanics ( of which there are TONS). After a few chapters, you may decide to strike out on your own and focus on pure leveling, up to you... but with the more than quests in the game, the adventure can get a little addictive^^

I'm a fan of running dark characters through because the quest flow involves less backtracking in Act I, Act II, and act V. Also, you don't have to fight the boss in the swamps 3 times. That's a big deal because he's a real Barsteward. I hate that fight, honestly.

Starting off by running the main quest is a good idea. I almost always start off in Silver difficulty because you don't unlock anything by beating Bronze, and by level 15 or so you should be fine in silver if you've built your character well (mainly sticking to 1 or 2 aspects and not picking bad skills). You can run around to get a few extra levels before you start gold, mainly just trying to get to around 45 or so. Then you are more likely to want to do sidequests and stuff in other difficulties from there.

Now, I don't know how you will most enjoy the game. But I've had a lot of fun bringing tons of characters to level 40 or so, just to see how the builds work.

I am curious what characters you are running. Sacred and Sacred 2 have very complex mechanics, so there is a great deal that you can potentially mess up at first. It's good to know that there is more experience in the later acts, so as fun as it can be doing side quests, it's a good idea to rush a character through Silver up to like level 40 just to see if it's working for you. Then when you're enjoying the playstyle (and you have more runspeed), it's nice to do some sidequests.

Anyway, like a lot of people here, I just love talking about this game. I can't get over it. It's incredible what you can do with this game.

I Love reading about your enthusiastic times with this game on the boards here. Its great meeting others who see everything this game has and enjoy it thoroughly. The game's size, ambitious build system, attention to details, surprises and humor are almost endless...

yah, DarkMatters has been here a loooooooooooong time with all the fandom

Depending on class, I used to play bronze to get some gear and then restart in silver and not even bother doing half the quests in first play through as you easily out level the areas if you do. If I was playing a Shadow Warrior I would just start in silver as I had about 20 mules and lots of spare equipment for that class. So many spare swords.

But then I only played single player and never got past level 150ish without dying. One character only died as he was first into one of the CM areas when it was released and had no idea what hit him. It wasn't a glitch, was the boss. I had a backup copy of him but I knew he had died. Takes months to get to that level.

Fun game, might reload it again. Just need to get it to run on 4k monitor and not be a tiny window.
