apple crisps -> Treppengrundofen

We cut apple (Apfelringe) in ring form because they are dried over or in an oven placed on thin poles. No fat needed. We use our oven which is build into the staircase. Hot waste air is lead in a labyrinth build into the stone staircase made from heat storing stones. Fired in the morning the heat lasts the whole day in winter. Space room in staircase can be used for drying fruits and such.

Treppe = staircase, Grundofen isn the type below

Yum -> Cookies & Biscuits

I am dangerous around cookies, biscuits and rusks(a South African thing, dried sweetened bread, similar to biscuit, but yet different). I have to take care to not eat a tin by myself in an afternoon.

potassium -> Kaliapparat

My old university was the Justus Liebig Universität, Giessen/Hessen/Germany. Liebig was the father of fertilizer and invented the Kaliapparat to research organic processes in plants. The apparatus used potassium (german word is Kalium).

The Liebig-museum is only two houses away from the Mathematicum (mathematical experiements for the public). So I was there more than once.

The original experiment in the museum.
