Quote

Grüne Soße is a specialty of the German state of Hesse. Centres of popularity are the cities of Frankfurt am Main (where it is sometimes called "Grie Soß") and Kassel, which lay claim to its origins. The Frankfurt-style is made exclusively from seven fresh herbs, namely parsley, chives, chervil, borage, sorrel, garden cress, and salad burnet together with sour cream, oil, vinegar, mustard, salt and added hard boiled eggs. Variants of other local areas, often varying by season, include dill, shallots, lovage, lemon balm, and even spinach. In more frugal times, daisy leaves, broad plantain leaves, and dandelion leaves have been used.

The hard-boiled eggs are sieved or pureed before being mixed with sour cream to form the creamy base of the sauce. The fresh chopped herbs are then added. Some variations use buttermilk, quark, or yogurt instead of sour cream. In the city of Kassel, a combination of sour cream and Schmand is used.

Thai Green Curry -> Volkswagen

The first VW factories were build in the nowhere. To feed the workers VW build farms, butcheries, restaurants,... The recipe for Volkswagen Currywurst has won several prices and the Wurst has even a original parts number.

TopGear visits Volkswagen and is surprised that they produce more Currywurst sausages than cars.

With a bit luck you find them sold on the streets

Mamma -> Mothers of Invention

Zappa and the mothers gave a concert at a casino in Montreux. An idiot fired a flare gun while the band played KingKong. The casino burned down and Deep Purple watched it all from their hotel rooms on the other side of the lake and the smoke was blown over the water...

silicon -> Siemens Halske

They produced the first clean silicium crystals in the 1950ties. They also build rotary engines for planes in WW1. My grandgrandpa flew with one of them. So I first knew their engines and then the thing with the silicon :)

web ->castellated beam

I first learned the name WEB when helping my pa and grandpa to build a metal structure to hold a crane to lift engines into the barn of my grandpa. Was a low teen then and it was before WWW ;)

A beam was cut in two parts in a wave form and welded together with holes in the web. So the beam was way lighter. The main reason however was that the barn was cultural heritage and the openings were for wooden parts which had to kept.
