Dedicated to Beowulf

This is my first Advanced HoF and first Blind Moon->DF hit. Special thanks go to Beowulf for his knowledge freely-shared. You rock Ben! Also thanks to Firefly for DF-watching assistance, Gintukus and Lionheart for rec support, and Punish-ed for info and well wishes.

Well, this has been a looooong time coming. It all started back in October during the Covenant/Avalanch War. I was going after Wader/lastspider [Avalanch] and exchanged information with Kastigir [Covenant], some of which enabled him to hit Wader's deploy. We then had a little disagreement over the DF from the hit. Perhaps I was right, perhaps he was, perhaps we were both wrong. Rather than argue, I returned the entire field that I had collected (~3.5 MM metal) to Kastigir and told him that I was going to crash him. For about a week I studied his patterns and online times. I crashed a bunch of his ships, but when I was getting close to catching his fleet, he went into (v) mode, where he has stayed, off and on, for the last three months.

Last week I saw that he had returned from (v) mode and I started watching again. He has remained out of (v) mode since -- the first time that he has been out for a week or more since November. I watched patiently last night and then this morning. Although I never saw his fleet, I knew roughly how it was composed (although he has expanded a little) and I was able to judge by res changes on his moon when he came and went. Eventually he did his FS and I created a visible DF at the only DF in the SS. Next problem, o-calc was down and I couldn't calculate the flight times. Fortunately, I had created a spreadsheet back in October when I was first going after him and his techs hadn't changed.

I guessed, based on his history, that Kastigir would do a 40% or 30% flight, and I had a 25-minute window to watch, so I did a cursory watch during the earlier periods, but concentrated for the 40% period, but no missing DF. Next it got tricky, because I had to be somewhere 15 minutes into the 30% period. I asked Firefly to help out, and he was able to watch the last half of the period for me. Fortunately, 2 minutes before I was ready to leave, the DF disappeared. I recreated it and there were no further disappearances during Firefly's watch.

Next problem, I was short approximately 50-100 recs (actually 133 due to Kastigir increased fleet size), so I sent out word to friends and alliance mates. Gintukus and Lionheart both came through, although Gintukus was a bit far away, and thus arrived a little late.

I hope that Kastigir wisely invested the 2 MM metal that was in dispute, adds it to the ~ 1 MM metal from the DF that he took, and uses it to rebuild. GLOTR. You are a worthy adversary.

very nice hit, and excellent story, and profits not too bad :P

P.S. sorry that wasnt able to send out recyclers earlier :P

Thanks! And no worries, I essentially grabbed the debris I expected to get with my initial recs (35 MM worth), including all of the crystal. I got a bit of extra from some other recs I sent 30 minutes later (after the JG cooled down). Everything else was just A) bonus and B) keeping Kastigir from getting it. I really appreciate the help!

its still the best way to fleetsave. thats what im doing all the time - sending to debry in the evening and recalling in the morning. or sending to debry on inactive planet with no defence (no chance to make visible debry)

Wow, Ike...

This is a super-duper hit...well planned and very well executed.

But you gotta tell me how were you able to get the timing you show on the overview screen shot to be one second apart or are you a photoshop expert too [among your other extraordinary talents]?

This is really quite impressive!

Enjoy...

There were almost 5 hours between when I saw the DF disappear and when his fleet returned. So I had plenty of time. I had the 333 recs arriving back from my RIP HoF in G1 ten minutes before I needed to send them at 100% in order to arrive at the DF in time.

So I sent my first batch of recs @ 80% and 20 minutes later sent my fleet @ 80%. In between, I jumpgated my second wave of recs in and sent them at 100% 45 seconds after my main fleet. I sent the follow-ups (all large cargos) 45 minutes+ later. 100 @ 70%, 50 @ 80%, 25 @ 90%, and 13 @ 100%. I had about 10-15 minutes between launches.

The reason I bunched them so close is because although he had no other capital ships, if he came online earlier, he could time some ships to arrive between my main fleet and the followups and either kill them or prevent them from grabbing their fair share of the swag. :D

Plus with Blind Phalanx hits, it is always a little bit of guesswork. I was refreshing the Galaxy view screen every 5 seconds and saw the DF disappear at 20:49:15. So his fleet was set to return between 01:46:50 and 01:46:55. I set my fleet to hit at 01:46:56. So if he actually had 5-6 seconds and somehow got his fleet out, I didn't want to give him the chance to recall and hit me.
