YEAAAAHHHH the best skin is back!!!

My avatar is the jack o'lantern I carved for the pumpkin contest at work last year.

Ben, I remember when you posted that carving trip...  you must have won.  I'm sad about not being at work this year, mostly for all the food, festivities and  friends. For us its almost a complete close of our office space down town Montreal..six floors... gone to Spook and Dark...

Hmmm.... I did not actually win that year.  Sugar skull (center top) won first place and the rest of us all got honorable mentions - there were way more prizes than there were people that actually carved pumpkins.

I blame the fluorescent lighting.  Oogie Boogie needed a dark room to shine.  :flix:

BTW E.T. (bottom center) was my favorite.  Jade (far left) painted that one.

There is a serious amount of Halloween firepower in that room  Is this company working with a lot of creatives? One of my favorites there has to be the one bottom middle... only because it has some epic  ET Vibes coming from it... .any chance it actually WAS ET...those blue eyes and the folds of the cape... dead on

oops... spooky pun intended !

Ohhhhhhh !!! I had no idea this was coming on the forums!! It is my first year in here after all :D

And we do get to choose special avatars for the occasion? Lemme check and come back in a second ... oh and before I forgot in the excitement ... HAPPY HAPPY HALLOWEEN!! HALLOWEEN!! HALLOWEEN!! ....

It is a nice surprise when checking the forums after a good night sleep (also a good excuse to play more sacred 2 later today :P )

EDIT:

I picked the picture of a personal arch demoness of mine, Asphodèle. I used to draw a little not so long ago, thinking of which I should go back to practice more. Anyways, here's the original below in case some are interested :)

Thanks Daedalus for Halloween Love! It could be we're one of the last online communities doing this.  In the days of loads of online communities, before instant messaging and facebook, there were a lot of "forums" that used to be do seasonal festivities ( in fact i was curious about this and checked back to about ten years ago... in those days we would have Avatar Competitions for spookyness!   These days the big forums are all thats left with a few specialist ones like us as well...  we find these small celebrations nostalgic :drunkards:

And re drawing...wish i could but never could ! :4rofl:   I believe i was more meant for chatting than drawing and always have pinged for those with talent... thats a terrific drawing of a daemoness...what catches my eyes is the lips/teeth contrast... biting contrast :D

Its got Sacred Underworld Vamp Vibes!

This year, I "borrowed" my Halloween avatar from this spooky album cover.

I think I'm ready for that drink. What's the strongest thing you have that will "stick to my ribs?"

I'll have two, please. Laie_5.gif

Helloooooooo spooks!

Well... I hope all remember that scene from Lord of the Rings? I am quite easily spooked and seeing Bilbo going from nice old hobbit to this was jumpscare enough for poor me. It shows what greed might do to one, no matter how kind you have been in your live.

Hey Daedalus, how long did that drawing took you? I tried to draw myself, but I always want it too detailed, take to much time achieving it and giving up again. So I am mostly curious how much time others need for their drawings. Especially faces.... takes me aeon s to get the proportions right.

Don't overdo it with the drinks, party just started!

I absolutely know that scene .... that single scene which stuck out in my head as... "how did they do that?"  the secret of it only showed itself when the movie finally appeared at *cough * home...and we were able to advance frame by frame and catch that absolutely evil substitution they used for his Jekkyl transformation... brilliiant!

I've only seen it done once so well in another movie...can you guess?

Constantine... one of my favorite movies, with an epic and classy Dark Satan (maybe the best incarnation I've seen of him) ...and the particular scene I'm talking about that uses a substitution/jump scare scene was where she was walking through the underworld and the daemon ferociously jumps at her ...again this required fastidious frame by frame advancement to determine how this fright was accomplished

Oh yes, Constantine, I know and love that movie. I can't quite remember the scene you mentioned... good reason to watch it again. :D
I love it for the story... it is an absolute realistic approach on the whole pircture of God and Devil. Getting something gifted or earn it? I also think the latter one would be the better one. ^^'

What do you think about the rumours about a sequel?

I actually didnt hear about the rumors...but I welcome any addition to the franchise.  I've actually never been a fan of most of Keanu's work...I kind of class him with Brad Pitt in that regard...never got a feeling from them of any kind of sincerity or depth.. here's where I duck from their fans :tomato:... but Constantine had me breathless at moments

  • the best display of hell i'd even seen.. maybe even to now? that incredible work and CGI
  • brilliantly written characters that just always seemed to find some humor on their road
  • the control of the infinite through man's use of mechanized-finite...this absolutely thrilled me... who doesn't love MacGyver gadgetry in play that you believe can absolutely work when taking on the deity?  Holy Water in the sprinklers...

Nope we're all just office personnel.  Credit clerks, accountants, IT, etc.

That IS in fact E.T.  That was my favorite one.  Jade (far left) painted that one.

Not quite.  You're thinking of "spun sugar."

Sugar skulls or "calaveras" are a part of the Mexican traditional Day of the Dead, on Nov. 1.  You've undoubtedly seen this kind of imagery.  The designs are used for face painting during this time as well.

You guys are making me hungry. And thirsty as well. How about them drinks, hun?! :JC_gimmefive:

As for Keanu, yeah as much as I love Constantine you really can't beat that "there is no spoon" line. Sorry but it was one of those movies' series I grew up with, though I've seen all of those and all of the LotR and also Constantine on the theatre. Good times when you'd catch good movies and go there with your friends. Nowadays everyone loves their couch and their Netflix, so in retrospective those earlier days where much more fun than now.

It's been a couple of months now that me and the wife brought life into an old annex of our house, so now we have a wine cellar which is becoming a small monster. :woot:It's been fun to rack it up, and every supermarket seems to be doing wine sales these days. Oh my wallet... It has more than a few spider webs, and I have some pumpkins from my father-in-law getting dried up. Maybe I can raise myself the spirit to go all North American and carve them up. That'd be a first! :D

I did take courses and, to be fair, I have a very good maestro :)  And don't worry, with hands and feet, faces are notoriously difficult to do since, as you realized, proportions need to be done right first.

As for details, the method I have been taught works in several stages, each one more detailed than the last. I think I have some old drawing where I have some of the steps on pictures, lemme try to find them :)

Ohhh! Give us some photos of the pumpkins!
And remember: The money spent on wine isn't gone... it just converted to future happniess in bottles lying in your cellar. :D

Your grand Haloween avatar!  Also.. re building a wine collection... i can see that being a fun thing.  We are not huge drinkers here...but over the last two years, a whiskey bottle has shown up and a bottle of rum from Cuba... just having those sitting on my table makes me feel opulent :4rofl:   Yes you're right, Androdion, its more than a few spider webs...but collecting seems to be in our bones

Covid made me thirstier, and with whisky and beer she barely touches it. Maybe an imported Belgian or German beer every now and then, but she doesn't touch the scotch. So the wine cellar ended up becoming something of a pet project for both of us since we can both appreciate zee wine. Last week we went for a ride around the Douro, which is the river that crosses the northern region where the Port Wine is made. That was great, and we even got to visit a wine estate and do some tastings. Really nice.

Last photo is from a few weeks ago, it has since had some comings and goings I'm afraid. :D The ceiling is even higher so I have at least a couple more racks that aren't shown in the picture. We're nearing 100 bottles right now, but we're also starting to be more selective with what we buy instead of buying in bulk. We're trying to focus on keeping a balance in terms of quantity and quality. From left to right there are five different wine regions represented, the main ones in my country (Douro, Dão/Bairrada, Lisboa & Vale do Tejo, Alentejo).  It's fun doing this. :drunkards:
