The WIDD gladiator

Recommended Posts

Okey, it's time to reveal this crazy build I ones did on Closed HC. Even tho this one has been dead for a long time (R.I.P), but his spirit is still whit me (on my Local network :oooo: )

I think everyone knows how WIDD (wounds increase damage delt) works so don't be talking about it.

Basic idea of this build:

To create tank gladiator that does insane Widd damage. Sounds crazy right? Normaly you would want foes to hit you so you deal more damage, but this one aims to get no hits as HP is lowered whit pain.

Skills

Weapon lore - Good skill in lower levels and before you get enought WIDD. Not main source of damage.

Concentration - It's good to invest around 20 points. After that there is no point adding more. RSM gear will keep your regens low

Constitution - More you got life, more you can loose it. Don't know does this have effect direcly on WIDD damage, but it's allways good to have pretty high HP if your Def and Res failes.

Agility - You need to keep hitting and it allso give boost to def so it's must skill to take. Put points as much as you can.

Axe lore - 10-20 points for Thains axe and more if problems hitting things

Armor - Resistances are important. Use points as much as you can.

Parry - This build is all about def so use as much points as possible

Last skill is free.. I took trading but it's mistake as it takes too much skill points. Maybe ranged combat could be better if you wanna do long range widd kills (just like my x-bow glad), or DW or LHW or sword lore. What ever..

Weapons

I went for Thains axe and Ulukai's mask (shield) as the both have boost to Widd. Also Thains axe provides lot of damage. Axe + shield would be best choice as Axes has good damage and Shield boosts Parrys effect. Dual wield could be usefull too whit two Thains. Also could be interesting see how much damage 2h axes whit MH would do.

Combat Arts

Attack will be best choice, one rune readed will do fine.

HC all found runes in to this.

SJ for getting near of ranged foes. One rune is enought.

Also MH could be usefull if going for 2h axe or Bow

Using sockets:

Some critical. Lot of WIDD (what a suprise). Ammys whit Def and res.. even better if whit usefull mods. LL not more than 5-6%, its just not needed that much. Some pain.. would be better to have on other weapon slot as you can swap widd gear and really do some nice damage.

Gear:

Not going to say much about this as best geat will depen lot of your drops. Well Raanes shoulders is usefull in a way that it has WIDD on it. Also dalmars could be good as it boosts damage and resistances. Basicly gear whit give enought RSM and sockets to put usefull rings. Also all nice mod likes +skills +Combat Arts crit etc are really good to have.

Playstyle and tactics:

Use some weapon whit pain to drop your health to half or lower, then switch to WIDD weapon and remember to keep HC running all the time. Better keep your left thumb in spacebar as you can never tell when your life drops too low.

I bet I forgot something, but anyways.. ask if interested.

Now when I look how I build my old WIDD glad I see why it died. Too less points in defence and too much in weap lore and totaly wasted skill points on trading. It's just better to have trader to look for the stuff than ruin this by takin trading.

Ah Obsession you crazy widder. :oooo:

The great thing that I can see with this build is its uber protective values. The skills armor and parry plus the use of the CA Heroic Courage should allow you to take a lot of hits but recieve very little damage. So that part of managing your health should be a snap. So the only thing I gather that you really need to manage in terms of health is the pain mod. Which I'd like to add is extremely unpredictable. Pain's affect on your health is dependent on the enemy stats I've found.

Awesome build suggestion Obsession. Can't wait to see someone try this!

I have been fascinated by the DS even since the mass DS NPC build.

Its probably a stupid question from me, but does WIDD works with DS? I assume it would, but would DS be a very dangerous CA pairing with Pain?

I c you have divided the Pain and WIDD in different weapon slots, it is really better than having them all in one slot? Typically peeps use a lot of LL to combat the Pain, and end up wasted some valuable sockets. Is that y you separate the WIDD and Pain?

Last but not least, can we expect to see some in game demonstration anything soon? :oooo:

*yeah I'm a bit shameless but who cares* :)

Edit: y am I not surprised that Schot posted before me? WIDD.

Don't know, have to test this one. Somehow I got the feeling that it doesn't work whit Widd. But I'm sure DS will be really dangerous whit Pain.. atleast if you are going for mass killer DS on npc's style.

Well you really can't separate WIDD and pain completely as your gear will have WIDD all the time, but what I ment was that it's not wise to use Pain all the time as it can cause trouble. That's why Pain should allways be on some other slot than on your main weapons.

I'll see what I can do..

Schot, I'm sure I'll try this at somepoint again. Just need to find lot of widd whit my trader dwarf first.

Fantastic.

Ob, I was jealous of when you first started using build so long ago cuz I knew that if you got it goin, it could possibly beat out all the other toons in the game. The biggest challege with using WIDD without pain, so far, seems to be the fact that a lower level of healthpoints must be created to create the yield of greater hp. This was traditionally done with leech of distance. Distance hitters can do wonders with WIDD because there is a great chance that monsters can't get to your lower-healthpointed character in time. Leech worx nicely because of the synergy. The more damage they do the less hp you have, the more damage you do, the more you leech back.

Only thing is that in niobium some monsters hit fast and so hard, that in the case of the seraphim, her rbol doesn't "cycle' fast enough to leech back the hp. An often deadly point in time :(

The one thing I was unable to do was put in more def because I just wanted to WIDD up as much as possible. In the case of your glad build however, the def is built in!

Have you considered WIDDing a Cross bow glad?

:o

Yup, that could be interesting. Then you could drop Leech and pain from the formula and just use all sockets to add more WIDD.

And here is some video of my "old" widd glad in action. Bad quality vid again thanks to youtubes filtterin.

1. part: This is how much def and res you should have. You should bee able to stand in middle of mob whitout getting hits that often.

2. Some action parts (orc chief drops allmost in 1 normal hit)

3. Some more action parts (any normal foe drops whit 1 hit)

4. Some action whitout using any weapons and still killing normal things whit 1 hit

5. Fight against gold level D'cay at lvl64. Last hit whit 1hp does over 21k against dragon (has higher res than those orcs) when "normal" attack whit half health does 10k and normal attack whit full health does only about 4-6k per hit.

All video recorded on gold difficulty whit my "ghost" lvl64 widd glad. If the video isn't showing up.. here's a direct link

Great video Ob! Lol, and that music...where's it from?

I'm particulary glad you made this video because it shows one of the most powerful Sacred mods in action. There's still a ton of confusion regarding if peeps should make the switch to a WIDD build or not. Your build makes a great point for it.

And...it seems like with the glad using WIDD you can even minimize WIDD's risks.

:(
