Old leather -> Froschfett ;)

Froschfett translated as frog fat. But it is just the logo of the company which has a frog. It is a special leather-fat for leather which was tanned with plant oils and not using chrom. In difference to shoe cream which is made to shine, leather fat is made to protect and keep soft. It closes the pores so it is not for shoes you wear for 12 hours. But soccer shoes keep quite soft with it. Well I was a goalie, no need for effet shots. The room just in front of the goal is often a mud-pit and I didn't want to have the water penetrate through my shoes ;) Our freekick specialiists preferred old leather with a lot of grip. I wanted it soft and tight to the foot.

Leather working shoes of farmers are often another use.

They look modern. My skates are 15+ years old. We water a plan field every year with firefighters and hope for a longer frost period. No luck so far this winter. Next ice hall is 40 miles away and over crowded.

ha, I hear you on the old skates, though the ankle support is needy with old leather

>Nice skates Schot.

here is my skates, I got them from my cousin. he bought them new, used them once and never again. when I used to live in Pretoria I went to skate at least once a week, sometimes twice a week. always enjoyed it. we don't have winters cold enough to freeze a pond, lake or river, so we go to skating rinks whenever we want to ice skate, and even though it is soooo much fun and keeps you moving and I'm sure it must be good exercise, not that many people in South Africa does ice skating...

Very nice looking!

And... skating in south africa, land of the sun...who woulda thunk it!

:)

Another problem might be the lack of ice rinks in SA. doing a quick google search shows only 5 ice rinks in the whole South Africa. 3 of them being in the smallest, but densest populated province, Gauteng. One in Pretoria, one in Johannesburg, and one in Kempton Park. in the whole big Western Cape, there is only one... one single lonely one...:twitch::sob::(:oooo::ohmy::help: , at Grand West Casino and Entertainment world. And there is one more in Kwazulu Natal, Durban(I Think).

People here generally go once or twice and they are scared, they fall a few times,(who doesn't?) and then they never want to go again either because they are scared of falling and getting injured, or they don't want to look like fools...? sad man, very sad...

Can't imagine the energy costs to run rinks in hot countries. Even here in montreal, during the summer time, at a rink I used to coach hockey at, there'd only be one rink that we could use, and the ice times were very strict.

Great skates! And even sweeter with the price you got on them, it'll make your hockey stops that much more satisfying.

Oh yes! I practiced my stops the other day. Something I've always needed to work on.

Oh boy, I remember skates from back then. I had a hard time with ice skates. Always to painful.

Nice skates Schot.

Hey, cool skates Delta. There were skates like yours that I saw and were my second choice. It's really a pleasant sport. Fun even. I can't really think of a solo cardio sport that gives me a sense of fun like skating. Everytime I'd lose my balance I'd sorta laugh at myself. I can imagine it would be difficult to find rinks where you are. It's unbearably cold here in Montreal and I'm learning that the best way to endure winters here is to find something fun in it. I'm discovering ice skating here in Montreal for the first time in the 15 years I've been here and it's been really exciting. I'm hoping to try out ice skating at the old port as we call it in Montreal this weekend. They have light shows and dj's most nights of the week so I think I'll be smiling the whole time I'm there. :D

I bought my skates 15 years back when my oldest daughter was 3 and a half. Was a year with nice and early frost and frozen ponds. It was when I taught skating to her. 2 years back she taught skiking( :)) to me.

Funny things. We have the luck that we have forest roads which were used for the transport of iron ore once. 2 centuries back horses were used for the transports so the roads have very few fall or climb of below 0.5 degree. They have no asphalting but small stones from iron ore. So inliners or roller-skies are not working on these nearby and car-free roads.

Skikes however do very good. She has the Skike twin model which is very close tp cross country skiing. She uses them on her way to university which is like 3 kilometres from her student home. Air filled wheels, having a break, works with normal boots, just 2 poles needed because it is really close to cross country skiing. The twin model allows classic parallel skiing and modern skating.

Seems every year there is something new: dog-scooters, trikke (3 wheel scooters which work with swinging your body), kicksparks and now these skikes. 5 kids and everyone wants to try something its siblings not have...

One of the items we lost due to smoke/sut (sp?) damage, was our beloved Magimix Pixie for Nespresso coffee.

A big electronics chain has a tax-off sale, and we bought a new one :) just in time for the €30 rebate/€50 free coffee around new year.

Also, with all the issues surrounding buying a new laptop and everything, and not liking the Razer Abyssus much, I opted for a new mouse. I wanted switchable DPI between 800 and 1600 DPI, 5GHz technogoly, and a good sensor. I'm a big fan of laser and Mircosoft's BlueTrack Technology, so preferably it had to be one of those. And this is what it ended up to be: Rapoo 7800p Wireless Laser Mouse

Schwarze Schrift auf gelbem Grund - Halte Abstand bleib gesund !

Black letters on yellow ground - keep distance, stay healthy!

Looks like a multi car crash with too low distance between cars? The car of my wife was destroyed last year october in a mass crash too. She was able to break early enough and left the car, just placing the warning triangle when a truck smashed in her little VW Lupo. Luckily she was unhurt. Bought her a second hand VW Polo 'Cup Edition' as replacement.

The situation was pretty similar indeed. Uphill (looking into low hanging sun), on an exit of a main highway, the driver in front of me had to brake for a line-up of cars. She stopped in time, as did I, but the driver of the van you see in the back was not paying enough attention. He crashed into the station car behind me, which ran into me and caused me to hit the car in front of me.

Thankfully no serious injuries here either. But my car ended up totaled... :(

My latest and greatest loot of this last half a year, sadly due to my GPU dying on me...

MEDION AKOYA P2210 D (MD 8863)

  • Intel® Core™ i3-4160
  • Windows 8.1 NVIDIA® GeForce® GTX750 videokaart
  • 1 TB hybrid harddisk, 8 GB Flash-memory
  • 8 GB DDR III Ram
  • Wi-Fi® b/g/n (horrible, already replaced it with a proper PCIe card)

I tried shopping for the parts in this pc, to put it together by myself, but that ended up ~$20 more expensive. And I did not even count shipping costs and the lost years of life due to the frustration of putting something toghether yourself.

I did not plan on buying a new pc, but I love this little beast already (just set her up!).

Timo, those look sick!

Was thinking of you when I got my latest doo dads... for only seven bux!

My new 7 dollars ear buds

:D

gogo

Actually, I read about those a looong time ago on Lifehacker back in the day, exactly the article you link to. Couldn't find them overseas though ;) I've been trying my luck with China earbuds. A new set is on it's way as we speak lol.

I've developed a bit of a China shopping addiction the past few years....

Do you have a link to the new ear buds you're getting? I kinda have a fascination for stuff under ten bux :P

And cool you read about them! Shame they can't send to you... do none of the links for monoprice work for purchase? In fact, I remember now...I don't think I ordered directly from Monoprice, but instead from either Ebay or Amazon...kind of choice they offered you if you wanted to use a pre-set profile from one of those two companies...I clicked, and presto my profile showed up from past purchase, and I was able to order them... took a while though, but so happy with the sound!

:)
