Talia Mel Sera build

Recommended Posts

While waiting for the current reset, and doing a bit of multitasking I thought I'd share my latest Work in Progress build.

My skill choices with this build are: Armor, Constitution, Meditation, Heavenly Magic, Magic Lore, Dual Wield, Trade, Weapon Lore. None of these are set in stone for variants of the build, but I'll give my reason for some of the skill choices.

Why Dual Wield: The Seraphim gets her best critical hit additions from weapons(esp the Prototype sword) and not shields. I know that in later difficulties, critical hit can be worked around with rings and amulets.

Why Meditation and Heavenly Magic: Part of my goal with both of these skill choices is to bring in the added magical defense and damage the character will need to offset the lack of a shield.

Why no Concentration: I'm convinced now that Concentration is a wasted skill for the Seraphim. If you want those special melee moves to be high, Regenerate Special Move is a far better way to get good results.

Attribute split: I tend to go with 7/3 combos, but on this build I'm doing a 5/5 split between Strength and Physical Regeneration. It's likely not the ideal choice since I can't think of many items that give a bonus to damage from Strength for the Seraphim, so putting all points into Physical Regeneration for the hit point bonus is never a bad idea for Hardcore.

Due to the set bonuses(esp to Heavenly Magic) this build can concentrate much more on heavier skill investments, though the only ones I see being good candidates are Weapon Lore, Magic Lore, and Meditation. As I said, the build is a Work in Progress so I am open to suggestions or recommendations.

Hi :)

I am Glad you are building a magic seraphim Dave!

my 2 cents would be to leave dual wielding and pick riding instead. Horses are a real blessing for magic seras improving not only their health points and defenses but aiding vthem in their magic. Every seraphim spells are augumented in horseback with faster casting time and quicker animation. Judging from my own experience Dual Wield and Weapon lore would be a waste to pick. Without concentration you wouldnt really able to use the melee possibilities.

DW is a sure waste for a magic seraphim because no sword can give you thoose bonuses and possibilities what a good shield can grant you. Proto sword gives some crit and magic damage - Guild shield gives you bonus to all magic, 4 socket, meditation and magic lore bonus + spell regen. For example.

For my own char I would drop trade too - but I know you are obsessed with that skill :) and true magic seraphim has 1 skill choice free so taking trade wont hurt you as much.

With: Armor, Constitution, Meditation, Heavenly Magic, Magic Lore, Riding, Parry and Agility the char would be optimized but replacing Agility with Trade* could work too.

*Talia Mel is a large set. Every piece except ammy, ring + wings are already occupied with it. There are sooo good uniq wings to choose from so there is noo need to actually trade for wings. Rings and jewelry can be traded with any char so you dont need to have trade on the char who would like to have them.

Given that you can't effectively Dual Wield on the horse(it's only a single blade attack), but attack and spell speeds are increased I may have been better off with going Sword/Shield. Now since I still think Concentration is wasted on the seraphim perhaps Riding is a better(though 1 point investment) choice. And the horse would offset any Sword Lore bonuses with the far more important hit point bonus. Now I've already restarted my seraphim twice, so I'm not sure people out there would have the patience or understanding of me doing it a third time. Depending on how things progress in Silver or Gold, I may do a rebuild if I see too many weaknesses.

DaveO: Your builds are fascinating to read about. Even if we have to wait, we're (me anyway) happy to do so . . . with bated breath.

Make her the best you can.

Ah a new build in town. Well I certainly can't say I have much experience with Seraphims but I did happen to notice that on the Talia-Mel's set there is no built in resists against fire or poison so that might be something to keep in mind when building her. :4rofl:

Oh, I have poison and fire resistance currently covered. IF I decided to do a rebuild, Armor, Weapon Lore, Magic Lore, Heavenly Magic, Constitution, Trade, and Meditation would still be needed. I chose Dual Wield for the extra critical hit and melee boost. Having a horse does have serious merit with the Seraphim, so Riding is a very good candidate for the last skill. My current character's biggest challenge lies ahead with the Underworld attribute quests, so I'll get to see how good she is versus the Forest Golem.

Hi :4rofl:

25 (or 32) points in Riding is not that much but worths definitely 1000% more than waste it on trading or some other skill raising from 100 to 125. That would enable you ride the best horse AND would help with your non existent weapon related lore.

And seriously .... trading .... eh forget :D

Well, I've had good opportunity to play the character past level 100 and now I know the weaknesses of Dual Wield. Even at a higher speed, it's still slower against monsters than using the horse. Picking Riding is the best choice since you can get good horse choices in Mystdale. As far as attribute allocation, if I had a chance to rebuild it would all go into Physical Regeneration for the best hit point bonuses from the horse.
