Requiem Bloodymare - Tips for Compounding and Reinforcing

Well this is something I think might be in high demand. Compounding as well as Reinforcing was I think the game concept that took me the longest to grasp. I think others have had some difficulty as well and so I thought it might be a good idea to create a reference for those eager to get on with things. There are quite a lot of things that need to be understood in order to be successful so I'm going to start off this reference with some basics and overtime will update this post so that it can be as thorough as possible. For now I'm going to resort to external links to get things started. So! Let's begin.

Here we have a wiki for Requiem that outlines the basics:

Upgrade System (Compounding/Reinforcing)

Theoretical tips:

From my experience there are possibilty some extra factors that can help your success. The thing that is absolutely the most important aspect to consider is that there is always a chance that your upgrade will fail. "Upgrade" meaning Compound or Reinforce. When compounding there is a chance to fail and if it does fail you will lose the item forever. So it's a gamble. With Reinforcing when you fail the item is not destroyed but you will lose 1 slot on the item for each fail. Again, a gamble.

Now here's where my whacky thinking comes into play. At the moment my Rogue is level 27. My Rogue has an Amplio Claw, Amplio Crossbow, Amplio Lowers, Amplio Boots, Amplio Uppers aaaaand an Meulier Gloves. That's for compounding. For Reinforcing I have 2 earings, a necklace, and two braclets that are Reinforced 2/2. The rest are at least 1/2 including all armor pieces. The point of me rambling on about what I have is to point out that in all of that I have only had 1 fail on a reinforce. I have not had a single item destroyed yet. Pretty darn good odds there. Insane most might say.

I've been following two rules made up for myself with regards to compounding/reinforcing and those are:

  • Never try to compound/reinforce an item that is same level as character or higher. I generally only upgrade an item if I am 2 levels above the item level.
  • Never try to compound/reinforce more than once in a single smithing. What I do for example Is Compound/reinforce an item, go out and level up to my next level then come back and compound/reinforce same. I try to level my character up one level after each successful compound/reinforce.
Another example and this is how I've been doing it is this. I compound three Aegis armor pieces to Fortis and succeed. I'll then go out and get a level then return to compound those same items to Amplio and so on. Same sort of deal for Reinforce. Don't try to fill up your two slots in a single smithing. Do one, get a level then do second.

I have it in my head that there is a hidden "allotted" chance when upgrading and that that chance is refreshed when you level up. It could also be based on time between upgrades. No way to know for sure though.

I realize that this is completely impossible to prove and given the fact that Requiem would rather have us buy xeons from cash shop they will not uncover any truth there however... It seems to be going well for me.

Interesting points:

  • The 1 failed reinforce I had had happened when I tried to reinforce the same item two times in a single smithing.
  • When you compound an item you will see "Very High" chance on first compound. On second is "High". On third is "Average". An item I had compounded to Fortis had a chance of "High" but after a long time I returned to compound it again and that time it showed "Very High". Somehow the chance had increased. Not sure exactly why but I do believe there is something in game that can allow item compound chance to increase.

That's all for now! If you've got advice by all means share it. :hugs:

Some tips first for those very special, very first characters :)

Dont compound items before lv20 unless you plan to pass them down for your future toons. First 20 lvls go so quickly, it doesnt really worth the money invested.

Get any crappy compoundable item regardless of stats. Compound it as much as you’d like (while keeping it in mind that 10 points of defense decreases the damage you take by a single point...) and when you reach the desired item grade and youre not happy with the randomly assigned stats, use a revamp xeon to change the them.

I like to stack up on simple basic xeons during the first 20 lvls. Its cheaper to reduce low level items and I dont usually need large amounts of money that early. Buying simple xeons from the AH works just as well, only slightly more expensive, but saves you the hassle of reducing. (Thanks Stickem for the tip)

My most precious reinforcement xeons go onto my jewellery. You use them for 10 lvls unlike weapons, and you can find/buy them before reaching their required level unlike set items which take a while to aquire. This way you are guaranteed to use them for all the 10 levels, thus making the most out those pretty red xeons

silly question time

where do you get the Compound/reinforce Xeons from?

stubbs

You get them from drops, red xeons called ability xeons for reinforcement, and compund xeons are the other kind that drops like Fortis compund of Trainee etc. Then you need simple basic xeons and those you get by reducing items ;)
