How to: Reset combat art modifications

Recommended Posts

It's a very fair question to ask ELicious. Some games do allow a sort of reset of skills and such though Ascaron prefers not to provide this option. So as the others have said it is not a possibility in Sacred 2. However! If you wanted to test things out you could test build ideas in Single player or LAN. What you would do is start a new character and then back up your character before making choices. Your Single Player or LAN characters are stored in your Saved Games folder which is in (VISTA)C:\Users\USERNAME\Saved Games. All you need to do is make a copy of that folder and rename it to something else. Then if you want to play your backed up characters you can just copy the files in the backed up save games and paste them into your Saved Games folder.

Oh and welcome to DarkMatters ELicious. Always nice to see new folks around here. :twitch:

Thanks. It's kind of disappointing to see next-gen games with no re-spec option, even if it's a costly one. The concept just seems archaic and outdated to me. Does anyone know of a trainer or character editor available so I can fix my mods?

heh, doesn't seem outdated to me. I still love limits. It gives value to my purchases, and I enjoy the length of time it gives to games this way.

I love working with the community to find out what works and doesn't. Respeccing is a shortcut, and I don't think I'm interested in it.

Ascaron is an interesting gaming company. They're old-school that way. They've created a gorgeous world, with no re-speccing and no real saves.

Old school gaming? Maybe it could be called that. It's certainly harder, no shortcuts allowed, and the best builds that can last it out in Niobium will be built by the most thorough researchers and those who want to read the forums, make friends, and involve themselves in trades with other players for MP, and yes, choose to spend a lot of time on this game.

It's a worthy prize, and is there for anyone who wants to go the distance.

In all fairness Gogo, Elicious has a valid point. Players are making choices, many times completely uninformed. For them, they simply want to play and if choices did not suit them, not have to start completely over. For some, having to research and having to plan hundread of levels in advance ruins the fun and discovery in the game..making it simply a calculated grind...Bottom line if you feel your charatcer is ruined, it is unfun.

As for the concept of "old school" gaming and shortcuts, I do not think that is a fair assessment. If we are refering to the original Diablo. You really could not mess up your charatcer too badly there..very simple development...invest some attributes...keep some attribute gear handy to "twink" you charatcer by learning higher skill levels than their standard attributes allowed. There wasn't even weapon swaping, you wanted to switch..you had opened your inventory! Perhaps we need to remove the short cuts allowing multiple weapon configuartions to give it more more of an old school feel?! Better yet, if you died in a game you dropped your gear and it would be lost if the game connection died..if you were lucky you could get your items back..or solicite other players to join you game and help you recover your corpse. Lastly, your attacks could hit other players, even if you were working together..you still could take out your friends accidently with friendly fire attacks. Oh yes, the original Battlenet Diablo experience, lets bring back old school! Kidding :twitch: Old school indeed!

Sacred has a far more complicated charatcer development system than is typical in the genre and infact is overwhelming for some players. Personally for single players and softcore, I see no harm in allowing a reset of skill points, attributes, and learned rune levels...leave the one mistake and it is over..in the Hardcore option :agreed:

I think it's usually the hardcore gamers (as in, those who invest a lot of time/energy in Sacred 2) who don't want the respec option, while the casual gamers want it (since they don't have the time/will/etc to restart a character). I can understand why casual gamers want it & I don't think that they should be "forced" to restart a character if they find out that it's not developing as they were expecting (even if the descriptions in the game were perfect), after all, games are about having fun, whether your a hardcore gamer or a casual gamer. We don't force SC gamers to play HC do we Gogo? That's a similar concept to having a respec.

Having said that, S1 & Sacred 2 are all about choices & consequences, but it's not unreasonable to be ####ed off if you make "bad" choices based on incomplete/inaccurate data. Also, a dev said that a respec option would be a significant amount of work to impliment (especially if you're implimenting it after the fact, rather than building the system from the ground up with respecs an integral part), so it may not happen.

This is something I kinda have a love/hate perspective on. I remember I played titan quest a bit and it made it really nice because you could mess with new builds easy and there was no regrets, but as mentioned it also drastically can reduce the lifespan of the game as you dont have to work to try new builds out. Major problem with these types of games is there tends to be only a few people who go out of there way to make the "cookie cutter" builds and the other 90% of the people follow there guides as they dont want to waste time trying to figure out a build for themselves.

I personally fall into that 90% who likes to follow others guides as I really am quite bad at planning ahead, at least on my first few toons anyways. Its the kind of thing that can make or break a game, but in the end im kinda glad you cant respec as people would abuse it to give them selves advantages in different areas of the game and it would also mean that no single persons toon would have a personality.
