Got my server up and running now and it runs great, thank you :) Is it possible to have exclusive characters so people can't import their own ones?

Got my own dedicated server up and running for a few people but want to make a few tweak, I tried editing a few text files on the dedicated server (balance.txt and creatures.txt), but after editing these no one can connect to the server. I'm guessing my friends balance/creatures txt files need to match the servers configs in order to change it server sided, but don't want that hassle, is there anyway to change variables in the server balance and creatures without the need of editing my friends clients? Like would a Custombalance.txt work or something? Edit: Got it working... dunno what was wrong when I first did it :S
