Sacred 2 HC Rules to Live by

Recommended Posts

After many HC deaths, near misses, close calls, missing limb or two, and the two by four Schot keeps hitting me in the back of the head with (starting to leave an impression). I started thinking of a set of rules to keep my bacon out of the pan. I'd like to make this a DarkMatters Rules to live by and have everyone contribute what helps them. I'll keep this up to date as more rules come in. So here goes.

Before we get to it here's a bit of an add-on after all these "Rules" were deemed to be needed. Before, during and after all has happened in game remember:

The Silver Rule: Always have fun even when things are the craziest. Some of the best stories this game will ever produce will be the moments that scared the living crap out of you, and you get to live to die another day!

Rule #1 When your still young and untested, if its purple RUN

Rule #2 If you get that "oh Crap" feeling RUN

Rule #3 Know your enemy-whats its damage, armor, Combat Art. Be extra careful around enemies that can Reflect, DeBuff and Leech Life. Getting to know the most deadly enemies and why they are so deadly can go a long way to surviving Ancaria.

Rule #4 Never grind with the toon that has all the money

Rule #5 Never grind with the toon that has all the goodies in the personal chest

Rule #6 Have an escape plan in case of Rule #2

Rule #7 Don't get overconfident, it only takes one hit for Rule #2

Rule #8 Never play when tired. Just as your head nods towards the keyboard you might need a health pot.

Rule # 9 Constantly slapping the space bar is not normal! Just cause your killing everything in sight, doesn't make it alright. Refer to Rule #2.Pushing the space bar quickly several times will cause the effects of your Health Potions to diminish upon each successive press of the space bar

Rule #10 Never under estimate your foe.

Rule #11 Never over estimate your character. If your killing all in sight and not taking any damage, WATCH OUT, It only takes one hit to waste your day.

Rule #12 Never go AFK in a spot you think is safe

Rule #13 When in doubt F12 (believe its F8 for Ice and Blood) is your friend.

Rule #14 Teleporting to party members is risky. Always be prepared for the worst before teleporting!

Rule #15 Lag is the worst Boss, if it takes 5 or more seconds for the game to register the damage, get out of the server and reload.

Rule #16 On Consoles If something doesn't seem right, Restart!

Rule #17 Thou Shalt not Stop before the Dash is Done.

Rule #18 Don't follow in the footsteps of the Mad Dasher.

Rule #19 Don't rush your build, or campaign, things will come together in their time.

Rule #20 Thou shalt not wear thy fancy clothes to play in.

Rule #21 Always make sure your Buffs are active before heading out.

Rule #22 When a more experienced player asks you if the levels of enemies are ok, They are trying to warn you!

Rule #23 Thou shalt close the Chat Box before battle and especially before drinking a health potion. If you don't have the chat box fix, keep your finger near the ESC button when playing in a server with friends.

Rule #24 When playing on a server with toons at a higher level then yours: a) Thou shall ask who started server session (quest enemy bug can hurt) ie: Muggers in Sloeford. b)Thou shalt ask where everyone is and where everyone was. Running into an area you thought was clean only to find a mob 40 levels higher than you really sucks!

Rule #25 Never have 0 armor vs. any element in Niob, since the damage can be 3x or more!

Great topic Furian! These are great rules to "survive" by. ^^

Rule # 9 Constantly slapping the space bar is not normal! just cause your killing everything in sight, doesn't make it ok.

Oh that's a good one. Add to that that pushing the space bar quickly several times will cause the effects of your Health Potions to diminish upon each successive press of the space bar would make #9 a very important point I think.

Here's another:

Teleporting to a party member - Teleporting to party members is risky. Always be prepared for the worst before teleporting!

When teleporting to a party member always be prepared! Ask first if it is safe to port to them and have a look at your map to see where they are so that you can select the proper relics, defense and weaponry for the area. Activating your most defensive Weapon Slot is also a great way to protect yourself from an ambush while teleporting to your party member. If you are teleporting to a party member that is MUCH higher level than you then ask them to kill all enemies within a very large radius around the point where you will teleport to. In the case of high level spawned enemies it is the ranged ones that are the most dangerous to a low level player.

Really? So tapping the space bar more than once without a pause is just not what we want. Hmm THAT will be hard to stop doing

I think this fact affects all of the diffrent potions (Mentor, Undead Death, etc.) I remember reading that several times while in a loading.

This probably isnt one for everyone as most of you dont have such high ping as me, but if the ping is so high that you hit something and it takes 5 or more seconds for the game to register the damage, get out of the server and reload, all the damage that you are taking will hit you in one big spike when the server catches up with you...not safe.

I found that when teleporting to a party member in the swamp who has engaged or has registered the Mist on screen that after teleport is complete and the fight starts the teleporting member will get a very foul attribute bug that wont go away. Rebooting game is only way I've found to correct this.

# 52 watch your damage and HP closely, especially on Console. if it doesn't seem like your doing as much damage as you should, restart your game. if you seem to be taking more damage than you think you should, restart game.

After jmping to rule #2 of course

Rule #16 Be extra careful around enemies that can Reflect, DeBuff and Leech Life.

Getting to know the most deadly enemies and why there are so deadly can go a long way to surviving Ancaria.

Bosses that can Debuff:

The White Griffin

Sinister Prince

Harpy Queen

Bosses and Champions that can Reflect damage:

Garganthropod

Grunwald Cave Dragon

Gyrvim Island Dragon

Ogre Champion

Mud Snapper Champion

Enemies that can attack with Leech life from opponents:

Demonic Eye

Draconic Dragonfly

Demon (Champion and Mage)

Something that would work very well for the guide Furian is if you set up each rule in your post to link to the post that describes the rule. That way more can be learned about each rule if the reader needs a more detailed description of the rule. Within every post of every topic here at FDM there is a a number for the post. If you click on that number a popup will appear to provide you with a link you can use to link to that specific post. Mine for example is #12 and the number is shown at the top right of my post.

Loving everyone's rules. This will no doubt become a very important guide. :)

Yup! As Max said, that's affirmative. When it happens it kinda looks as though the health potion's effect is lagging. Rest assured it isn't lag but rather a penalty that Ascaron intended.

Thanks Schot, I'll definetaly do that. It'll have to wait till I get home, trying that on my iPhone at work won't be easy at all. Instead of playing every waking moment I'll dedicated some time for this endevor. Real life Rule #1 If your going to do something, do it right.

During last nights fun I came up with a few more rules. We had just finished Silver campaign and moved up to gold level. Running at level 54-57. We decided we wanted to run up to Artamark's Gate. Well we didn't really have any portals close to the area. So I decided I'll start running there from the Wargfels Area. As I'm making that Mad Dash running at 150 and Divine Protection up lots and lots of mobs are getting agro'd and pooling up in my wake. About half way there Schot gets back online and needs an invite. Without even thinking about it I stop and do the invite thing. It was a very good thing my Divine Protection was running and I have a natural run speed of 150. Because all those mobs in my wake finally caught up to me. Instantly in my head pops (really deep scary voice) "Rule #17 Thou Shalt not Stop before the Dash is Done"

So then I get moving again, got to Artamark's Gate and I see Locolagarto making a run up the same path :bounce: . I can hear all kinds of screams and cloth tearing, tree limbs breaking, (he plays just down the hallway) and as he is making his Mad Dash he's running into, thru, around, and over the Gobs of Mobs that had pooled up in my wake. BAM into my head pops Rule #18 (that darn voice again) Don't follow in the footsteps of the Mad Dasher.

That explains why all those creeps were lined up along the edge of the road like a European off road WRX race. I thought they were there to cheer for my entry into the Mad Dash until they started throwing crap at me. And as I was trying to live at 115 run speed with nothing between me and them but a smile. the chat box kept stopping me and I had to fight my way through.

Rule #19 [should have been rule #1!] Always have fun even when things are the craziest. Some of the best stories this game will ever produce will be the moments that scared the living crap out of you, and you get to live to die another day!

P.S. was that deep scary voice a Charlton Heston kinda voice as in The Ten Commandments? or a James Earl Jones in Return of the Jedi Darth Vader voice? or Vincent Price in the Michael Jackson video for Thriller?

The voice was definitely James Earl Jones from the Lion King.

And I'll change rule #1 it's for sure all about having fun first and foremost.

Oh yeah the king talking to the little cub huh? yeah, I can see that. in a Ole' Ben Kan obi after death kind a way, the lion king telling ya not to screw this up! yeah I can hear in now!

lol you guys. Well I think you guys are really mastering the art of "run" these days. :bounce: Too funny the way you guys are discovering these rules. Pity tha poor new players that invariably try to enact all the rules.

Couldn't agree about the fun moments. It's only fun when one nearly loses an eye! Oh hey. Can we turn that into a rule too? ^^

Just thought of one

Thou shalt wait a couple of seconds before moving after thou hast teleported or entered/exited a cave to allow most noble enemies to materialize

Isnt it more they wont spawn until you move?

If you immediately start moving after teleporting, any enemies won't spawn until you stop for a couple seconds. Easy way to get mobbed. Least that's what happens to me.
