Position on Uniques - What the SacredWiki will be looking for.

Hey everyone!

 

Okay, we've done some more work on SacredWiki regarding the Uniques Database. From this discussion here:

That was a very important discussion and made us keep searching for all of the inconsistencies with the Uniques these days.

 

And by speaking to Nightwolfe, and a few other Beta Testers, our feeling on the uniques is that the gold colored ones are comprised of actually two types.

 

1-Hand-made uniques with recurring mods (read above link...there are supposedly about two hundred of these made by the devs)

2-Randomly generated uniques with tons of suffixes and prefixes ^^

 

And as well, there some to be an even more rarer drop called the Legendaries which are Orange colored.

 

Since we don't want to use up all of our time cataloging thousands of uniques that are being randomly generated we have decided to only reference those uniques that are hand-made and have true, recurring mods. What this means is that, while items like

 

The holy ghostly emperors advanced thrusting twisting squirming spitting gisarme of cold, coins of the gods

 

may look like a unique because it is gold, but because it is randomly generated and therefore has less value for collecting and predictability, we will not catalog/reference it...for now :)

 

We will however continue to keep collecting all of the more rare uniques with recurring mods like the ones in this list:

We understand that having to choose between what is a "true" unique and just a randomly generated unique could be contentious, and will therefore keep asking the community and consulting with whom we can when in doubt as to a Unique's "hand-madedness".

Or...by simply going to the wiki itself, choosing which category your unique pic belongs to and putting it in directly.

 

We are also a little concerned that even some of the recurring items may be bugged and have chosen to put in multiple copies of pictures that we are finding just so that we can look for patterns to understand.

 

One case that we found this morning, Legoril's Amulet has TWO versions of it...same mods...almost, but it seems like a part of the mod changed itself to the character class it dropped for

So... we will keep accepting pics for all the "rare" uniques but not for the ones that are being generated randomly. If, however, you find one that is contentious, please post about it so that we can all take a look at this.

p.s. My personal thoughts on all this? That Sacred 2 was a bit rushed when it came to the items, and they opted to increase the number of uniques by not just having ones "made by hand" with recurring stats (as in old Sacred), but also with ones that are randomly generated...but that's just my opinion :)

Thanks Antitrust.

This item referencing is still a hassle, and with having to "figure out" what is actually a true unique..it's more of a headache than anything. But, we've got a road and we're hoping to stick to it until (we hope) this is all patched up and it's finally figgered out what's what.

 

The defining characteristic from Sacred was the fact that all items including the yellows were randomly generated. The main difference between sets/uniques and all the other items was that sets/uniques had recurring mods and could be counted upon to fall often (well as often as they were supposed to :hugs:) and so could be worked into builds, strategized with and referenced.

With one color now (Gold) comprising two sorts of spawning...the collecting aspect of this game has changed, and it's made us wonder what else is going on, especially after seeing that amulet spawn with different mods.
