  1. You must be using the wrong tactics. You need to use the Holy Hand Grenade of Antioch and then count to 5 ....... I mean 3. And for those too young to understand, Google it!
  2. Yes I admit it, this is me when I don't get my garlic and pumpkin icecream.
  3. Oh dear Gogo, that backdrop is it? That is pretty sad after what we had before. I assume that it is because it was a "rush job" to get a Halloween theme going. Will the Christmas one be any better?
  4. What happened to the Halloween theme this year? I feel totally let down this year and am so sad at the loss of what I always thought was a wonderful tradition on this forum. I especially thought that THIS forum would remember Halloween since it is DARKMATTERS I expect better than this for the Christmas period or else I shall have to become Ebeneezer Scrooge and label every thread as total Humbug!
  5. Beautiful country, friendly people, wonderful service, great food like slumgully in a sourdough bowl, A&W rootbeer, decent coffee wherever you go, huge selection of goods in your shops..... there is a lot I remember with fondness from when I was able to visit the states to meet my in-laws.
  6. Sadly Gogo if pictures of me are the best thing you have seen all day, I suggest you either get your eyes tested or change your lifestyle!
  7. Sorry I can't send you some mate but somehow think that even airmail it would melt before it got to you.
  8. OK Gogo, I visited the Garlic Farm this afternoon and the icecream was delicious! It is produced using Black Garlic puree and Belgian chocolate chunks [Black garlic is a type of "caramelized" garlic (in reality, browned by the Maillard reaction rather than truly caramelized) first used as a food ingredient in Asian cuisine. It is made by heating whole bulbs of garlic (Allium sativum) over the course of several weeks, a process that results in black cloves. The taste is sweet and syrupy with hints of balsamic vinegar[1] or tamarind.[2] Black garlic's popularity has spread to the United States as it has become a sought-after ingredient used in high-end cuisine.] I can't upload my pictures at the moment as where I am staying, the internet signal is pretty bad. I am typing this into my laptop at the moment using my mobile phone in tethering mode and the signal is so weak it doesn't even show one bar! However I am going home on Monday and will supply photographic evidence when I get home to a decent signal strength.
  9. You will have to wait until near the end of next week for photographic evidence I'm afraid, as that is when I get to visit the Garlic Farm. https://www.thegarlicfarm.co.uk
  10. Not yet, I'm waiting until next week when I get to try some professionally made icecream first to see whether I really like it.
  11. Ingredients 2 cups whole milk 1 clove, minced garlic 1 vanilla bean 1 cup heavy cream 1 1/2 cups sugar 8 egg yolks Cooking Directions Combine milk, garlic, vanilla pod and seeds into a saucepan over medium heat. Once the mixture starts boiling go ahead and remove it immediately. Place 8 egg yolks in a mixing bowl, add the cream and sugar and whisk until well combined. Slowly temper the egg mixture with the hot milk mixture by adding ¼ cup at a time over a strainer Add the mixture back into the pan and make sure to keep stirring over low heat until the mixture thickens in about 10-12 minutes (it is imperative not to boil the mixture) Pour into a bowl and chill the mixture for 6 hours in the fridge Once mixture is cooled, pour into ice cream machine (be sure to follow the manufacturer’s directions) Get into that kitchen and rattle those pots and pans Gogo.........
  12. So you should be eager to try some garlic icecream then, you adventurous spirit?
  13. Aah Gogo, don't knock it until you tried it. Show some sense of adventure you boring old stick in the mud!
  14. You should try some of the stuff I see in the shops these days Gogo. We tried dark chocolate bars with small pieces of red chillies in it. My wife loved it but I didn't, still it was interesting experience.
  15. It is mate and I failed to try it when I had the chance, wish I had. However I'm off on holiday next week and where we are staying is a garlic farm that offers various garlic flavoured treats, including garlic icecream. I look forward to trying that!
  16. Nice one Gogo, I can live with that. Now if I can just find some bacon flavoured ice cream.
  17. Oh yuck!!!! When panic stricken and in need of a sugar high? I need at least a knickerbocker glory, oreos, donuts. At absolute minimum a peanut butter and jelly sandwich! Come on Gogo, what sort of host are you!!! Lol
  18. Is that you Gogo? Have you come to save me from being lost and whimpering piteously in the corner, unable to face blindly navigating this new and confusing jungle without a faithful guide dog to find the way for me? Not knowing which way to turn? I have to admit I still can't seem to find what I am looking for, which is a simple way of finding new threads rather than new posts, I don't need to see every post made. Is there a way to show only new threads? I think I have worked out how I can tag the individual threads I am interesting in following and then recall them in the 'unread content' options using the "content I follow" drop down.
  19. Mutter, moan, grumble! Always changing stuff, grumble! Just like them there newfangled ideas they have in shops. Walk in cheerful and knowing exactly what you want, then walk out grouchy because they moved everything around so you can't find the stuff anymore! Mutter! And keep off my lawn!!!! PS. Gogo, we really need an emoticon pf a grizzled old teddy bear angrily shaking a walking stick, lol
  20. Hi, dunno if this is the right place to ask this, but being an old stuck-in-my-ways kind of bear, I am slow finding my way around this newfangled version of DarkMatters. So can someone please tell me how I can get to see what is new in the same way as we used to on the old DarMatters site? Preferable explaining as you would to your poor untechnical grandad who can't even work a remote control or a television!
