  1. animal abuse -> transylvanian street dogs

    Tourists see the street dogs and bring them to Germany, Uk, France, .... But they don't care for them themself but bring them to animal care stations which are overfilled already. The problem is that on countryside nearly nobody wants them. They prefer puppies from local breeders and teach them while still being at the mother. Add that the street dogs are often too short haired for our colder climate.

    For town people the dogs are often too agile and used to live on the streets. This is bad animal care in my eyes. Instead bringing dogs to overfilled animal care stations they should spend money to romanian animal protectors which try to reduce the number of dogs by catching and castrating.

  2. mission -> oil dumping

    Before german reunion I was officer for signal interpretation and weapons on a <Breguet Atlantique sub-hunter plane. Our secondary mission were low speed low altitude flights over the baltic sea to spot for cargo ships polluting the sea with waste oil. With reunion and out of enemies (terrible mistake in the long run) I moved from flying to desk job, then expert for plane accidents with weapons involved, then leading an airfield firefighter group.

    Grandchildren. As a grandpa you can play with and teach them without the lot of forbidding and saying no you have to do as a parent. Grandma took us kids to long walks collecting plants and vegs.

    Field for skating still frozen. 8cm snow since yesterday.

  4. Oppenheimer -> Lise Meitner

    The woman who did the theoretical work about the atom bomb, but:refused to build one when requested. So who was the better person, she or Oppenheimer. I prefer her german documentary movie over Oppenheimer. The name Meitner is not mentioned a single time in the Oppenheimer movie. She was a woman in a men's world. 48 times nominated for the Nobel Prize. never got one. Atleastthe heavyion institute which worked with my university named an element after her: Meitnerium.

    I think it is a mistake that there is no Holywood movie about her life.

  5. Sunshine and still winter breaks so ice field is full of kids. I help my wife at their doc praxis: new laws, new software. Luckily some parents stay and keep control - and learn to use the field kitchen for spaghetti, mulled wine and Kinderpunsch (for kids, wine replaced by fruit juice).

    Unimog has a diesel generator, crane with floodlight attached. So there was action till 11pm.

  6. Montreal -> Montreux

    We spend our honeymoon in the Swiss alpes. Montreux had some nice music events then. Best known probably Frank Zappa, not his concert, but the events around it. Deep Purple watched from the other side of the lake the burning casino.

    We all came out to Montreux
    On the Lake Geneva shoreline
    To make records with a mobile, yeah
    We didn't have much time now

    Frank Zappa and the Mothers
    Were at the best place around
    But some stupid with a flare gun
    Burned the place to the ground

    Steve Martin is real good and well known with the Banjo.

    Banjo -> chocolate bar

    The oldest ate it, was stopped in 2008 or so. Two bars in a package, part of Mars company. Hazelnut and not peanuts, remember it because our oldest had a sandpit friend allergic to peanuts.

  8. If Holy Shield drops and Holy Freeze buff was active Holy Freeze will drop too. At least none of my builds uses all 3 buffs in Blessed Defense tree. So the dropping effect could be moved to one of the other two buffs. I wonder what except 3 different spells.txt has to be changed.

  9. Had storm rain with floodings in the valley. Today it is cloudy with some sun here and then. Control walk checking the apple trees showed no new damage from the storms. Even this old apple tree which was hit by lightning 11 years back survived. Last photo on the 36 analogue film so I could develope and scan.

    Waited till nice shadows when clouds opened and usin a red filter on my Leica M5 with 2.0 50mm Summicron.

  10. Guitar -> Zither

    The main reason that everyone in my family canplay an acoustic guitar is campfires. When our third was four I bought a very ruined zither for learning. My brother on visit recognized it as a very rare old orchestra zither and convinced me to pay 600 Euro for restoration. The fun part is thati paid only 100 at a garage sale. Auctions are around 5000 Euro for one in good shape.

    Our third prefers the Zither over a guitar at campfires, parties, ... She is really good on the electric zither.

  11. instinct -> Hindenburg

    The Doehner family was on the Hindenburg. Mother instinct let them act quicker and reduces pain...

    Quote

    Suddenly the air was on fire,' Doehner said.

    'We were close to a window, and my mother took my brother and threw him out. She grabbed me and fell back and then threw me out,' he said.

    'She tried to get my sister, but she was too heavy, and my mother decided to get out by the time the zeppelin was nearly on the ground.'

    'I remember lying on the ground, and my brother told me to get up and to get out of there.' Their mother joined them and asked a steward to get her daughter, whom he carried out of the burning wreckage.

    No doc understood how the mother could reach her boys after the jump, broken hip, badly burned,...

  12. risk -> mother

    Mothers are so dangerous. When I was 11 I visited a school mid in farmlands. In biology classes we learned about farm animals: don#t approach a cow with a newborn, she will attack, a horse tries to run, a donkey rather attacks, a goat attacks, a sheep will try to block, geese strike with wings may break an arm, ...

    We have 20 goats to keep bushes low. They have 5 newborns, And famílies with kids walk there to watch them. Some are so stupid and enter the fence to get closer...

  13. Have to do a drive to Frankfurt airport to pickup some people for the new year party. Hope no delays so I will be back 9pm and can still help with preparing. Won't lock in for a day, so happy new year to all who already have it and to all who still have to wait.

    Don#t know which traditions you have, we do a 1500 person tent on top of the hill between 5 villages, drive our firefighter trucks to the place and do a big party with friends and family, Short after new year we sing beethoven's 9th (ode to joy). But not as in opera , more focus on the word joy.

  14. monopoly -> bad loser

    Told the kids to show no merci when playing against bad losers (Leaving the room, crying, mainly kids without siblings, ...) But why should my kids don't play as best as they can? If someone is not experienced with a strategy game they play slowly and give hints. But a game like Mensch ärgere dich nicht (Heh, don't get angry) which is luck with dices, noone should be aggressive when losing, it is just luck.

    In summer breaks my family was at nearby lake for swimming. We watched some girls who were at the opponent shore obviously not aware of the under current there. They weren't reacting to shouts so my son and me were swimming to warn them. He was fast as a torpedo. When he visited the new school after breaks one of the girls was in his new class...

    The undercurrent in our case is caused by a very cold rivelet running into the lake where the stone shore ls in hot midday sun The bestplace for sunbathing is where the rivelet enters, but it is also the most dangerous for swimming.
