Bosses generally have a better drop rate for rares than other creatures. There is some explanation and theory on the subject of drops HERE. From what I have heard and can tell, no boss has been programmed to drop a particular item or "set items". They just have a different drop mechanic than normal mobs which allows them to have generally better drops. Also keep in mind that the difficulty you're on will affect your item drops as well.
