I think it was 99 steps in the old days that the devoted had to pray upon each to get to the top... they were crumbling and falling apart from the many hundreds of thousands over the years that used them while on their knees... all shiny and knew with wood.. how expensive...and what kind would they possibly @chattius @Hooyaah use! chattius 2,631 Share Posted September 30 The churchs in our area are mainly Wehrkirchen/fortified churches Build in a time of robber barons they were the defense place of a village. Also they were white-washed so relative clean and cool. People often went to church justfor this, nice place to rest and sleep in summer. When the local earl joined protestants under Luther the fortification had a use again in the religion wars. People still do reformation day. It's the same day as halloween. chattius 2,631 Share Posted October 4 My Favorite -> Feast of the Ascension Workfree day here in germany. So it is nicknamed Vatertag (father's day). Men wandering around with small wagons full of beer. in my case it was more wandering with a friend and our families and kids. Christmas is now more complex with oldest has own family, second and third boy friends, ... But Vatertag we still do it with full family. But you are right, christmas memories are also forever.
