Sins of the Flesh is an armor skin for the Necromancer. I scoffed at cosmetics and battle passes and all that rubbish, until I saw that Sins of the Flesh looks like the Cenobites from Hellraiser. I'm a HUGE Hellraiser fan; this skin is the closest I'll prolly ever get to running around as a Cenobite.

I never thought I'd say that I missed snow, until this year, when we had absolutely none. At least I have a nice little white winter in Vintage Story.

Darn right, this armor's tight; it's a lot of fun rolling through Diablo as a Cenobite. I only previewed the armor on a male; it's even wilder on my female Necromancer.

I've played a lot of games lately. As Conan, I've hacked my way through legions of folks in Mortal Kombat. That was a lot of fun, but it doesn't really feel like a game that you plant your flag in, ya know? Or in other words, it doesn't feel like a game where you invest a lot of consecutive hours in; it feels like something you log into for like 20 minutes at a time, on like Saturday afternoons.

Then, I played Raft, which was great fun in the beginning. However, by the time I started advancing things, like the advanced water purifier, it just started to feel tedious to me. Find an island, set anchor, throw bait to distract shark long enough to kill it, then hunt for copper and iron around the coral at a fevered pace until the shark respawns. It got...just too tedious for me.

Sheltered was kinda fun for a hot minute, but the charm wore off real quick for me. But, I only paid like 3 bucks, so it's all good.

Architect Life caught my eye for a minute; it's to be released in June. There's no way that I could play this on my pc, but supposedly it's coming to Xbox. But... I don't know. It's awesome to build a house, but you don't get to live in the houses. You can't build some type of masterpiece then go out and fish on the dock or go for a swim/soak in the pool/hot tub you just built. If I build something, I want to play around in it. Read a book. Watch tv. Cook a stew. There aren't a lot of building games that are also life sims. That's the whole reason why I didn't like Rising World. The building part's awesome, but the survival/sim part of it's almost nonexistent.

I also tried Surviving Mars. It wasn't bad, but the game play's not as epic as it's musical score. So, I tried other city builders. Some of them sucked. They say "tell the story of your ever-expanding city...." but they should say "tell the story of your ever-expanding city.... through financial reports. It felt like preparing for tax season with my wife. Bonk, not for me.

And then there were the types of city builders where I did nothing but meet the requests and demands of others. "We're bored, we need a new museum!" You don't ever get to walk through the museum, you only ever get a bird's eye view of it. Dude, I'm a husband and father; trying to meet the requests and demands of others is like most of my day! :)

So, I got a lightning bolt of an idea that would...bore the snot out of a lot of you. I've gone back to Vintage Story, to tell the story of a man who's single-handedly building a town, all while trying to hunt, forage, and fend off some nasty critters. How? I don't know about some of you, but I had a property that I was going to build a home on. Some of it, I had no problem with. But I'm not good with plumbing, electrical, HVAC. And then there was this whole legal landscape, with mandatory inspections and junk. Some of you could do it, some of you very well might be living in a your own DIY house, but I wasn't up for parts of it. And neither is the man of my story, Mike. So, how's he doing it?

And then: why? Why's he doing this; is he trying to make his own Jonestown? Is he one of those doomsday folks who are certain that an impending disaster is right around the bend? Why's he building semi-modern homes like this (it's nowhere near done yet):

2025-03-30_13-23-02.thumb.png.860c1a0f29ca20a589adbca5e8f4a2b2.png

and yet there's absolutely no plumbing, electrical, or HVAC. The only appliances these homes have are firepits and bread stoves. My kids would crap, especially the oldest; "even some of the freaking Amish have Wifi, ain't no way I'm living there. And your little phrase 'there's no 'wifi' in the word 'vacation' is a bs, lame phrase!" That was a hard week.

Anyway, a lot of building and a lot of storytelling to do; that's what I'm playing.

Snow's magic cannot be understated... and that white winter in vintage story is a nice touch of snow's merry season with lots of eggnog... oooh, eggnog dimension!

I've been debating selling a bunch of my gear because I have too little time to play games I feel. So far, my PC and my Switch have found new owners, and I have an old gaming laptop I am planning to get rid of by passing it on to a family member or just bring in for recycling. I have a new-to-me gaming laptop for regular games and an Xbox One X hooked up to my sim rig.

I haven't touched D4 in months. The little time I find to game the last few months has been spent on:

  • Project Zomboid
  • Forza Horizon 4
  • I just bought Assetto Corsa and I now have a full understanding of how sim racing can be addictive
  • Some Sacred 1 actually

I hear you on the respec...lately I've been looking at this massive tower on my desk...lol its become kind of an eye sore, and it wheezes a little bit whenever I took too much too quickly (k, guess that means all the time haha) .. I want to take out the tower and replace it with a kind of Apple Mac Mini...yah not the best card, but enuff to keep things looking beautiful and I think the newest one was a huge bargain for apple...will keep me in the eco system... and I can play Sacred on it with an emulator...WOOOOOO

for console gaming are you stuck to xbox? you MUST have heard about the new Nintendo direct Switch 2... whaaaaaaaaaaaaaa... we only got into switch two years ago ... Schot loves the whole "thang" :bounce:  , we welll probably end up getting the new one...

big bonus... they finally made connecting through audio a huge point of investigation...i mean a claim's a claim right, but...when Nintendo does stuff its VERY well executed... and since we play mostly a lot with family , this could be a the cement we need, instead of one of us reducing volume and we we use our phones on speakers... ;lol:

The Switch is awesome to do some couch gaming. I actually had a Switch Lite. But for me it has two flaws:

I did not like having to buy games multiple times when I wanted to play them on PC as well.

The Switch Lite had the most uncomfortable grip for a console I have ever experienced. I felt forced to buy a grip case from Skull&Co to be able to play longer sessions.

My experience with the Switch did make me look into the Steam Deck and variations of that concept. I am still keeping my eyes open in the second hand market, because I would like to get my hands on an ROG Ally X and then install Bazzite on it - until Valve finally releases the new Steam OS that is.
Either that, or a really cheap Steam Deck. The hardware just isn’t really up to snuff for me to justify the price when new.

I do indeed still play D4, though haven't touched it for a couple of months. I jump in and out of it, depending on the season and whether Blizzard have annoyed me recently :D

My current games are Assassin's Creed Shadows, Enshrouded, Valheim and Watchdogs Legion. I also still jump into Red Dead Redemption 2 regularly and the odd bit of Mario Kart or Minecraft.

I think the Switch 2 looks great. I love my Switch, though don't use it much. I'm still mainly a PC gamer at heart. But the Switch 2 does look to have some great features. I particularly like the built in chat. Me and my ex are a little tempted to get one as I may be moving up north again this year, so it would be an easy way to stay in touch and enjoy some chat and gaming time together as friends. My main issue is I don't play my Switch much and the prices for the Switch 2 games are absolutely ludicrous. Especially considering Nintendo games rarely drop in price. If a game comes out at £80 on a PS5, you know within a month it's gonna have dropped to £60 unless it's in that special 5% of games that hold their price. But you know any Switch 2 game will come out at £80 and remain there forever.

I do however appreciate the fact the digital versions are cheaper. It's bugged me for years that all companies charge the same for digital as they do physical. They have to make the digital version before they can even have a physical version, and yes, ok they need servers and bandwidth to allow the downloads, but that's still less of an overhead than making physical discs, boxes and shipping those all over the world to distributors who then pass them out to retailers. Having worked in a game store, I know how ridiculously cheap those retailers get those games for, so I can extrapolate from that just how much cheaper the distributors are getting them for, so the mark up on digital copies is enormous. Just as a point of reference (and bearing in mind this is 15 years ago so markets have changed), GAME used to buy in most big new releases at around £35 per unit. They'd then be sold for £50. As the games got older they'd get them cheaper then pass the savings on as a 'Deal of the Week' before putting it back up to £50, making even more money. Game guides are the biggest rip off. They buy them in for about 0.1p per guide, so after the game has been out a few weeks they just throw them out. Just selling one guide will have made them profit on the entire order.

I saw on X that Bethesda said their goal was to present the game as you remember playing, but through today's technology. That, to me, means same ride with a new coat of paint. Some might like that, more power to them. But me, $50 or $60 bucks to take the same journey I already went on years ago.... that amount of money could get a bunch of plants for my Clown Killifish. Their tank looks a little sparse, and the more plants you have in an aquarium the better. Well, to an extent. But I love those little critters; always happy to see people, even when it's not food day.

I like what you wrote.. I kinda feel like...its almost a "grab" for sixty bux, just to get the wallets tipped again... all respect to the franchise and their fans... I mean bethesda is EPIC...just... that much money and you got almost same mechanics with a paint-over... could this be the heavy hand of AI come hither...
