Thanks for joining up and getting to know the community. And what an avatar welcome to DarkMatters! gogo 1 Link to comment

Popular Post DarkWolfNine 46
Thank you gogo! I'm glad to be here and I'm glad that this community is still going! I've always loved being part of it, and especially with such a great community as Clan-DA and D.a.r.k. We have always had a good clan report. Thanks for the avatar compliment. Quite the step up from my Clan-DA one, ya? I really like it too. I've been using it for a few years now. Thank you for the warm welcome. -------------------------------------------------------------- Thank you Dax. I really appreciate it. I love getting to know fellow community members as well. For sure. As for your Sacred, Sacred 2 question. I played a ton of the OG Sacred (with my, at the time, wife). I really thought it was so far above and beyond what Diablo 2 had (maybe that is because I had already played through D2 so much already.) But the huge world, great story, horses, dragons, monsters oh my (ok.. cheesy. ) I never took the opportunity to play it online though. It wasn't until Sacred 2 that I actually decided to try it online. And what a game changer. I met the most amazing community. I was able to learn from those more experienced, and help those who were less experienced. It was then, that I tried moving into hard core for the first time in my gaming career. And wow. Did it change my outlook on how to approach areas and enemies. So exhilarating. In fact, after a few close calls over the progression of my main character Dark Phantom (Inquisitor), I was the first Clan-DA member who reached Niobium in HC (sans one member who made it, but exploiting the Area of Effect bug that the Dryad? or was it the High Elf? at the time where it killed enemies many times further than on screen.) - I had so much fun. But that grinding..... oh that grinding.... That is where you will see I eventually came up with my Jungle Run map, that I posted in the best leveling places thread that gogo created. I also spent a lot of time during that period helping NightWolfe with screens and stuff she needed for her awesome informational site. I also documented my perfected Astute/Gruesome Inquisitor build guide and start helper. (That is now also in the Inquisitor build/walkthrough section here at DarkMatters). I brought it over from Clan-DA to share with even more people. This was all before Ice & Blood came out. And come to think of it. While I did pick up Ice & Blood, I think life events took over and I never got to play it :O - I imported all of my Sacred games (from Sacred 1, then Underworld, Sacred 2, then Ice & Blood) from the UK. Especially because with S1, they toned it down in the US version due to the publisher wanting to get it into a certain rating. That said, this week, I found myself thinking about Sacred again, and having some time (not as much as I used to), I went ahead and installed Sacred Gold (with the ReBorn HD (beta) mod that includes the widescreen support, which is looking wonderful. I just fired it up for a few minutes to make sure it worked for me in Windows 10) and Sacred 2 Gold with the Community Patch 0.160 (verifying it works w/ Windows 10 for me). So I'm ready Now the hardest decision is whether I want to go through the OG first, or Sacred 2 first. First world problems!!!!!! Apologies for the novel (I'm a programmer by profession and I tend to type/get winded.) I should start including tl;dr: at the top. heh. --------------------------------------------------------------Thank you both for the warm welcome. I'm excited to be a part of this wonderful community again. - DarkWolfNine Edited March 6, 2020 by DarkWolfNine 3 Link to comment
Popular Post Dax 481
So, Night Wolf is Lisa Drevin from WolfesLair? I dont know how much time I have spend back in the day at WL. Glaring at uniques, piecing them together in my imagination. Over and over again. Ah, the good old days. A good day to you, sir! 2 Link to comment

Yep, NightWolfe is one in the same! She was very active (back in the day) working on her Wolfe's Lair site. She was pretty active on Clan-DA site as well (sister clan of D.a.r.k.) I helped her a lot with Sacred 2 information, pictures of items, quest information, etc. Anything I could do, as she didn't have the game yet (Sacred 2). The good old days is right! Cheers! Popular Post Dax 481
Wolfes Lair is some kind of bible for Sacred fans. Meeting someone who had to do with the site, last update is 12 years ago or so, is like... meeting a Dinosaur. Sometimes, the internet is a tiny place. I hope you stay with us for a while DarkWolfNine, we shall meet again. Cheers! 1 1 Link to comment

I agree. - Yes, life is a bit busier than they were back then, but I do plan to stay a while. Worst case if I have to take a short break for some unknown reason, I will make sure I am able to be contacted and will always stay in touch. I'm not planning to become a ghost of the past, like I once had. I plan to stay a part of this community (as long as everyone will have me. - But I'm not worried about that. Everyone in our Sacred community is amazing! - I'm glad to see that it hasn't disappeared or become toxic) Proud to be here and be back! - DarkWolfNine 1 1 Link to comment

I did an interview with Lisa back when she was putting so much content up for the fans...DARKMATTERS PRESENTS - INTERVIEW WITH NIGHTWOLFE it was only because of her that it "clicked" for me the amazing value she had created for gamers...and that was bringing so much community together. She has a way of communicating quests to the masses that is IMO the best I've ever seen...and me and Schot tried to walk in her foot steps when we were up the Chrstimas Quest walk through on the wiki when the add on came out.. a lot of fun but SO much work having to do a think through like that and connecting not just content but the sentiments of the users walking through that question. Bravo NighwWolfe!! gogo Link to comment
Dax 481
Nice interview. 12 years old now. Too bad that I have discovered Sacred that late. When I think back what I did 2008.... time flies! Thank you for digging it out gogo! Link to comment
gogoblender 3,070
You actually made me sink into a long few-moments of nostalgia waves. Love going through the old interviews... I even got to speak to one of the Devs who did all the music and sounds effects from this game... marvelous insight. gogo Link to comment
Dax 481
Ah yes. I remember that I read the interview. Sometimes I ask myself what the devs are doing nowadays. I watched Starship Troopers lately on Youtube. Dina Meyer was so tough in this movie. She has got her own channel on Youtube and when I watched some of her videos, how to cook tasty stuff in a proper way, I had some severe flashbacks. It was like some kind of time travel. From 2020 back to 1997 in a second. Crazy. Maybe I should watch the movie again... Link to comment
gogoblender 3,070
star ship troopers? its an almost perfect move Paul Verhoeven FTW!! yes watch gogo Link to comment
Dax 481
So be it! Did you know the Mr. Verhoeven used the concepts of fascism as a base for the movie? Catchy, isnt it? Link to comment
gogoblender 3,070
Yes... now you got me thinking about it as well...maybe I can track it down I remember StarShip Troopers being an avid read for me when i was a kid... so many socio-polotical concepts that were so new for me and mostly not understanding them ..but all this forgotten in the face of the real thrill... big bug eyed monsters!! gogo Link to comment
Dax 481
I am aware of the book but I did not read it. Is it worth the effort? Btw, many thought constructs of today are cheap rip offs. Fascist ideology hasnt changed a bit nor did communist ideology. Those who still repeat it constantly, simply hope that people are not aware of the ideologys fathers writings. If you are, the whole thing collapses like a house of cards. Link to comment

DarkWolfNine 46
Such a great classic movie! - I haven't read the book either. I might have to check it out one day (when I get back into my reading phase! But I'm not letting it derail my Sacred phase!!!!!!!!!! Tho I can multitask! hahahaha) 1 Link to comment
chattius 2,526
My book looks so and I prefer the book over the movie. I preferred this book more: The Forever War No speed faster than light, but wormholes. So when a spaceship starts to fight at a planet it needs decades for the travel, soldiers hibernating. Of cause in these decades technology (and sexual prefereences) doesn't stand still. So sometime humans have the technocial advantage over the enemy soldiers on a planet and the following month they are attacked by spaceships which seem to come from a future hundred years in advance. After 5 wars the Captain started as a soldier 500 years ago. He would be the richest man on earth if he would survive. To his frustration he and the ship cat are the only heterosexual beings on a spaceship with 500 soldiers of both sexes. A war which couldn't be won like Vietnam, humans turned homesexual for birth control, .... Too much to make a hollywood movie from it I fear. But I like the idea that sometime the time will be ripe for it. Link to comment

A shame that the following movies where b-movies in the best case. The animated versions from Japan are even worse. Most of the Startroop actors disappeared somewhere in Hollywood, no one made it into bigger movies. Too bad. I liked all of them. Speaking of iconic roles, what do you think of the new Blade Runner compared to the old one? Link to comment

Funny when I read your write up of that book, it makes me think of perhaps that or many many other dusty books I've read dusty, dim-lit small second hand book stores... reams of adventure, exploding stars and valiant heroism... I'm sure your book will come up for production one if not already... so much stuff I've read and just want to see on screen! gogo Link to comment
