Which Character for Blacksmith+Trade?

Recommended Posts

I'm searching for a character build with Trade and Blacksmith skills.
For PFP the available classes are Shadow Warrior, Temple Guardian and the Inquisitor.
I've always played the female characters so I don't know the male ones well.

I would love to have a good Area of Effect kill speed and wiping out the masses quickly, probably good survivability in orc region. Boss killspeed isn't that important for me, he won't be doing bossruns.

I could imagine him to be a Fog-Farmer though, if there is a convenient build.

Thank you, this whole build sounds incredibly lazy, I will definitely try that one

A friend of mine recommended the Temple Guardian with Fiery Ember and Icy Evanescense but wasn't sure how it would perform at higher levels.

In vanilla I would go for a shadow warrior. I had great fun with a 'Captain America' build. No need for a weapon skill so more room for general skills. Tactics lore gives modification points in two trees, even better.

No weapon, just a shield and using the invisibility buff to run quickly into enemy groups.

You are most welcome. I hope that you will let us know how your blacksmith works out for you! :crazy_pilot:

HI Vishanka, only a temple guardian here for me, and only to low levels as part of a trading network.  I found the TG not so applealing to play with, its CA's not at all my style, and I could never get over his voice

:4rofl:

Don't let the name mislead you. This build is, in my opinion, more appropriately named, "Utilitarian Build." Once you get the character up to level, the Shadow Warrior progresses fast and you don't need to concern yourself with his survival. The Shadow Warrior is a good choice for a Blacksmith; he's what I use for all of my blacksmithing.

I just started this build but Shadow Warrior does not have access to Bargaining.

So there's just Temple Guardian or Inquisitor.

Yeah, with vanilla conditions, only TG and Inquisitor have both of these utility skills available.

TG suffers a lot without access to Ancient Magic in the late game as 13 out of his 15 CAs deal spell damage. So the easiest option would probably be a Devout Guardian. Without the Ancient Magic resistance penetration, the damage suffers a lot in the late game.

Vishanka, you may benefit from downloading these characters and using one of them as a blacksmith: Level 75 Unskilled Character Pack Each of them are basically a "blank canvas." You would be able to determine what you prefer to use as your Blacksmith without investing many hours in the game, only to determine later that you need to try another character as your Blacksmith instead.

Wouldn't recommend since Vishanka plays PFP so they'd be legacy characters.

Most assurably. I can't stress this enough: you don't use legacy characters in Sacred 2. Spells, that freeze casters, broken quests, mangled skeletons, distorted animations are to be expected.

Additionally, they're built using the character editor, which is also prone to bugs. There are much easier and cleaner ways to create test characters in case you want to:

This way you get lots of experience and high end items quickly, kinda like a self-made D3 PTR. Flix also explained somewhere in the forum how to force a specific item drop, just saying as addition on how to make test characters. if you search for "admin" in blueprint.txt, there are 3 normally undroppable cheaty items which will immensly help with damage reduction, vision range on minimap etc.

After you got your char to level 200, you can switch back to PFP balance.txt.:)

In case that wasn't convincing enough, here are some more examples for warnings/bugs regarding legacy characters:

Thanks!

You can always back up the save file and then try it in EE.  Starting a new difficulty level is a good way to avoid any quest-related bugs from the migration.  However you may still have re-rolled bonuses on normal/magic/rare tier items.

There is another very rare bug where combos and the Divine Gift become unusable for legacy characters.  This is the main reason I say back him up first, before you risk anything.  This bug would be apparent immediately if it occurred.

Modifiers don't spawn, as if the jewelry pieces are too low level for them. Something "might" be broken. Using legacy characters is not encouraged.

I am fairly certain this problem only exists for legacy characters, due to some vanilla quest flags being stored in the character save files.  As such I'm not too worried about that.  It's the other part, the triggering when accepting other kill quests, that is troublesome.

CA modifications are buggy on legacy characters.

The last one especially applies to legacy characters with a little bit of extra character editor topping. All in all I'd say either play it clean or use the balance.txt method. But I wouldn't recommend downloading test characters. Also I shall listen to my own advice more often I think.

I'm going for the Temple Guardian Area of Effect build. I don't see how the Inquisitor would be able to keep up with the killspeed.

For tests I used to edit the balance file.
But in this case I just believe in the guide.

I don't see how using a legacy character only to forge items would make any difference. I didn't mean to suggest that she actually play any Blacksmith in the game. I only meant to suggest that she use one or more of the unskilled characters in order to build it as a blacksmith. Also, deciding which character she would prefer and seeing how to assign the skill points to her preference would be a convenience. I have been using a legacy blacksmith to forge items without any issues whatsoever.

:agreed:

Ah I would not cheat any character, it's a game to be played :) If I download a blacksmith I could also just download any gear I need.
I want to do my Trader/Blacksmith in HC too and if he dies on the way he's gone

I admire and respect the fact that you don't wish to "cheat." That is why I also mentioned the quote above. It's a real time saver not to have to play several characters for countless hours to determine which one you want to use. Merely testing it out first and then deleting the unskilled character afterward doesn't feel like cheating, at least in my opinion. It seems more like seeing how one looks in a new clothing ensemble and how it fits before actually buying it.

I only meant to suggest that she use one or more of the unskilled characters in order to build it as a blacksmith. Also, deciding which character she would prefer and seeing how to assign the skill points to her preference would be a convenience. I have been using a legacy blacksmith to forge items without any issues whatsoever.

It's possible that there aren't issues. It's more likely that there are issues and just noone notices them. Either way, why risk it? Especially if the solution is so easy. And repeatedly usable.

Agreed. Very cool.

When I played Skyrim, it always started with those little things.

"Ok I'm stuck in a wall and don't want to replay the entire dungeon, using tcl just to get unstuck isn't really cheating, is it?"
"Oh this quest reward was a leveled item and now I've outleveled it, giving myself the higher level item isn't really cheating, is it? I mean quest rewards should level with the character in the first place, shouldn't it?"
"Oh I did not know taking the purity perk nerfs my potion value, removing the perk via console command isn't really cheating is it? I mean if I'd have known it, I wouldn't have taken the perk in the first place."
"Why shouldn't I use the fortify restoration loop? It's in the base game and it's intended to be used this way. The devs simply didn't balance it correctly, but I can stop when I feel like it's balanced."

And before you know you're standing there with full daedric armor and 3000 carry capacity at level 20. To me  Skyrim is the ultimate "the way is the goal" teacher:D So yeah, I have respect for your decision as well, Vishanka. But getting kinda offtopic, to get back to the topic:

I'm going for the Temple Guardian Area of Effect build. I don't see how the Inquisitor would be able to keep up with the killspeed.

From my Inquisitor experience I'd say that going with bargaining and blacksmithing kinda forces you to go weapon damage build, and that will definitely not be able to compete with T-Energy TG on killspeed. So yeah, good decision I'd say.:)

I've been there in Sacred 2 :P

"I enjoy questing more than grinding, raising the quest experience a bit would not hurt, you know, like in WoW"

"There used to be other people online you could trade gear with, if I sell some of my setitems and download those I need it's similar, right"
"Changing the trader quality won't hurt, a trader character could that too but I don't want to pick trade on my main"

"Superspawn, what a great idea, it will be so much faster and more epics"
"Increasing aggro range, yes please let me pull the whole map"

"Exterminator mod, no more mobs that drop crap and don't give much experience"

But in the end it was never satisfying

Is there an inquisitor build that can wipe the whole map within seconds?

I'm quite satisfied with the TG, he's 21 already and running around the desert. A bit squishy but I think the pot spamming will stop soon enough.

I'd say Inquisitor is the most fun mass murderer to play. There used to be a video with true mass killing, but I can't find it anymore.

The key is the correct modification of clustering maelstrom. Gather enough enemies - one single spell - the whole screen explodes:lol:
The challenge is to stay alive and the single target damage. Need his full debuffing potential for that. But if you want to be able to do that, you kinda need all 10 skill slots. No place for general skills I'd say.

CA modifications are buggy on legacy characters.

Not buggy, technically)

A character save file in Sacred 2 contains much more info, then, say, Diablo 2(and that game too has some peculiar limits to flexibility). In particular, all CA's(Divine Gift included) a character has upon creation are "set in stone" namewise and sequence-wise. You change CA names and/or order for a playable character - you have to create a new one.

Or you have to engage in some meticulous hex-editing. And people are quite... impatient nowadays.

Also one more note about dedicated blacksmithers.

You only really have to bring them to about level 110-120, if your main goal is to just be able to jam rings into bronze and amulets into silver slots, With the increase in max level of workable items and proper gear bonuses, you should be able to reach the max item level quite easily without getting into the late game XP grind. Unless you want max powered blacksmith arts of course, but they are a massive overkill for low level characters.

Also, around level 120-130 is roughly the point where bargaining starts being unable to reach the highest rarity tiers.
