I was getting tired of constantly posting in our key largo bar for outside adventures, runs, walks and, or progression on how we task ourselves to get to great places for us regarding exercise or rewarding habits. We can all here  post just to share, personally acknowledge or celebrate the success of others. The title...ahh, well thats something special from when I was a kid... He was my favorite author when I started reading Sci-Fi.  His stuff was strange (was to young to understand the meta of his work then) but I loved the scenery, mostly other worlds, and the touch of spooky if not chilling he brought to his stories. And the title of this mornings 2 K outside is another one of my favorites

To our Monday Morn we go..kind of like a play on words of this guys again super famous back then novel and one that had great impact... note the use of bodies in both titles... maybe as the years roll by here at DarkMatters, this topic could become its own section, we'll see.

We're here for the adventure

Morning Pefect Peeps!

Always running in the mornings and Ill just shoot up another outing this morning before work.  I'm slowly making changes to the the daily work flow...

reduced coffee from 3 - 4 cups to one cup

replaced coffee with (blech  ) herbal and orange pekoe tea during the day ... a fraction of the caffeeine

have started tracking my sleep cycles, I didnt like it before but I've now started wearing my watch to bed and I'm fascinated by all the different cycles I'm learning about.

Had kind of a break through last two days... my REM which was running at one hour (see, I know stuff now :bounce: ) has broke through into the plus one hour range ( I think humans are supposed to average two hours per night ) ... two nights ago, 1 47 minutes and last night 1 30 29 minutes!

:cow:

I feel like im making progress... gonna try and do a one hour old school style reading hour before bed and see where that takes us... though that may cut into my *efficiency* for posting and reading online... welll have to see where this goes...and maybe ill try to spread sheet a work flow for the day.. ? *gasp* ... maybe too much

Have a great day everyone, here we go ...outside!

No pic from Strava today, taking a day off from the morning outing, 10 k steps a day is feeling kind of sore, I feel like a day of recuperation is in order :bounce:... I do have my sleep stats... LOVE this new project..  only one coffee in the morning, tea in the afternoon, and a sleepytime at night if i want the comfort of sipping a hot liquid at night...

I'm just in disbelief at the amount of dream time I have "released"..

I dont really understand the science of causality here (oooh, does causality even exist? ...but thats for another topic  ) ...but I was running at a week about 1.05 HR of Rem a night after taking the watch to bed with me ... now ive hit 1h45 to 1hr 30...and..i remember dreams now...

I was drop dead exhausted last night, i hardly got any REM sleep the night before (seeing means you see stuff that terrifies you, but also puts you in gear for what to doa ) so last night, we were strict with turning off the big tv.. no more nintendo after nine! (and too bad...they released mine craft dungeon for free! :oooo: ) this morning I woke up, feeling wonderfully refreshed...but forgot to put my watch on .. noooooooooooooo.. so the phone was recording my time in bed.. some value, but heart rate and dream and deep sleep data, gone...
Still great memories of visiting Ammamma last night for dinner... deelish!
yes, I always eat her desert

Super happy with the results last night, after a lost night of not wearing mah watch  ... Ever since i got lazerballz, sometimes my eyes can feel a bit sore... I had a checkup from the clinic a month ago and got a email back saying that the ophthalmologist has assessed that my eyes are too "dry" and need extra moisturizing :d_dance: Im not usual a user of eye drops cuz I  didn't want co create a dependence ..but, after she said that this could lead to blurry vision, I quickly became a follower of THE DROPS :D  so... in attempting to acquire data, ive been finding that evetime Ive applied the eye ointment which feels like a drop of Vaseline into my eye for super overnight moisture, i see to get a huge increase in REM...which makes me feel relaxed, in focus and very capable in the morning...plus I sleep MORE with less wake ups ...maybe because the eye ointment is so gross to put in that it enforces us not using big tv at night and switch to the smaller screen which is kind of boring and gets me to bed earlier :4rofl:

Here are the stats continued...plus a pic of the corn cobs purchased this morning at the market up the street... here ye here ye here comes WEdnesday!

As a fellow sufferer of dry eyes, get a microwaveable eye mask! It can be annoying to get into a routine but it makes such a difference. My dry eyes are due to blocked pores and get exacerbated when my Cushing's is being annoying too. Use the mask once a day, you put it on for 3-7 minutes (not too hot!) then massage your eyes after and wipe the lids/eyelashes with a clean cloth. You can really feel the difference if you do it regularly and then miss a day. Super relaxing too! I can confirm the scary blurry vision; it goes away when my eyes are ok but when they're really dry it's so annoying! It's like that moment when you've just woken up and everything's a little out of whack.

Pevil! You found this topic and now I'm never letting you go out of it! :hugs: That eye mask sounds absolutely remarkable.  I'm sorry such discovery has come at the cost of your life with Cushing's. I have read about it since you posted bout it your Catching Up topic and never knew that high, continued levels of cortisol can have such adverse effects on the body.  Were you at all feeling these symptoms while you were playing with us?

What gallant spirit you have if so! And re the body electric... is there meditations or exercises that help you through your day, routines or disciplines? I must say that targeting sleep would have been one of the last things I would try to understand and improve upon.. but the results have been nothing short of spectacular, the substitution of coffee with herbal (blech :P) teas and a few orange pekoes during the day have netted me, what I believe, to be positive results and I'm looking forward to my adventures in dream land more and more every night and especially to that now dramatic moment that my eyes open up in the morning to feast upon the (hopefully) sleep successes of last evening..

Pevil, it's very important to take a supplement with Omega 3 Fatty Acids and Vitamin D3. This aids in keeping the eyes' lubrication system from getting gunked up in the first place and aids in clearing up any issues that have occurred and made the eyes dry, itchy, and feeling as it there's something in them.

Great info Steve, I'm gonna pick some up tommorrow... I think i got D3 somewhere rolling around...btw...do you have a link to where you posted about your eye surgery? I remember when I was looking at it and I have some questions...when I made my post about my lazerballz , my eyeballz were on fire just those few hours after, , though the drops iced em up right after.. I wanted to read what it was you had done exactly again.

Thanks guys!

Thanks for that info, I already do take D3 actually as I've had a deficiency for a while anyway (though just got some blood tests back and my levels are normal, hooray! So I'll stick to the supplements). I also eat a lot of fish with omega 3 in so I'm accidentally doing the right thing :) I know my issue is linked to my hormones when they go dodgy though. Just one more thing that goes wrong lol.

This is the eye mask that I use: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Optase-Washable-Reusable-HydroBead-Technology/dp/B01N43NOYP/ref=sr_1_5?crid=2W8LTGQGFJT77&dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.AO2G8Y4xJj7FbEAZcEsPWBnn0CWZfJrCUnKd-79qYOZ-imoTeMw-nRF3jzWokBodWZN7s8KOkjBUFZqnbt7DpQEQL1qxRStxjMFLh60dyiMUXk_ZIwTd_2IHGvP2mFyNda1LJSuwE6-WrCyOAIrcc_Ts8W7v4OyFtEoZy1cKoKWEqRkUkZSfPbx4IfZ8Um-vqZxH7HI2S_91_Jf2HtdLM8wJP1zQuKtX_MjjYAKNT-3iw_d9j9d8T2qMBovj9L0E-xCkE5b6q2QD1FLATIjdVXxQ-qI-jZjnGsWXd2eKogk.bC32KIY3-_IvDOAwmGqc8pkQQGEmCySWVr6RK-_18PI&dib_tag=se&keywords=heatable+eye+mask&qid=1725691657&sprefix=heatable+eye+mask%2Caps%2C155&sr=8-5

Aww Gogo haha if you REALLY wanna get nosy I did in fact blog about my entire Cushing's journey! And will be typing up another post shortly as I'm 5 years post op on the 22nd of this month. To answer your question, I wasn't feeling symptoms while playing with you guys. I definitely had Cushing's from summer 2015, though I still felt fine then too, but when I look back I can maybe see symptoms earlier than that, perhaps as early as 2009, maybe earlier, but they're such generic symptoms that it could be they were completely unrelated. I didn't even start testing until July 2018 when my GP said "you don't look right". I didn't feel ill at that point, But just a couple of months after that my condition deteriorated quite quickly; I always joke it's like my body was really fighting to just keep going as normal and once my GP started investigating it went "oh thank god I can stop pretending now" :D

I have learnt to listen to my body (though I'm still not 100% at that lol). I was off work for 13 months with it, some before surgery, some after, and found I had to nap at 3pm every day. I don't usually do naps, always feel worse after them, but with Cushing's that was the only time I could feel even slightly refreshed from sleep. Following surgery you actually end up the opposite of Cushing's and gain adrenal insufficiency (not making any cortisol!) and have to take replacement steroids. It's a bit of a screw with your mind deal; you go from 'evil high cortisol' destroying your body, to the replacement cortisol literally keeping you alive and you gotta take more if you need it, it's not as simple as 'you need this amount every day'. Luckily I regained normal cortisol function so I no longer take steroids, but I still try to listen to my body and not just push through everything like I used to. That definitely helps; losing that feeling of "I HAVE to do this" and "I MUST go there". At one point I came to the decision that I should categorise things differently (again, not 100% at following this though). At one point even doing the washing up was beyond me, and I had to take a rest part way through washing my hair, so I came to realise a lot of things just aren't important. If I am sat down thinking "I should go do the washing up" I try to rethink that. Why *should* I do it? Is it 3 days worth and a health hazard because it's growing mould? If so there's no should about it, I NEED to do the washing up. Is it just a butter knife and small plate from the sandwiches I had a couple of hours ago? Then there's no should about it, that can wait. I try to apply that to many things, if I think 'should' I determine if it's a 'need' or just one of those self imposed things.  It makes life much more enjoyable! I still struggle with it when Mum is visiting though; her house is always dusty these days so I know she won't judge but I still get that "gotta clean up!" panic.

As for sleep, meditation has never worked for me but I do try to limit screen time and have gone back to reading before bed some nights. I can definitely see the difference between those nights and the nights I end up scrolling on my phone. Then again even the phone nights are better than when I had Cushing's lol. Weirdly I find if I stay up/am awake in bed past midnight I will struggle to get to sleep, no matter how tired I am. I could be falling asleep by 11 but if I ignore it and try to finish a chapter that takes me up to midnight, I'm doomed. I will not get to sleep for hours and will sleep badly. My first yoga teacher also used to get us to cool down by lying on the floor for 5 minutes, on your back, eyes closed. Concentrate on your breathing, then slowly, from the feet up, tense muscles and relax them. So start with the feet, scrunch them up, then release them. Imagine them sinking into the floor. Then do that with your calf muscles. By the time you finish working your way up to your head (screw up those eyes!) you'll find yourself really relaxed. I used to use that often as a kid to help me sleep. I don't do it very much anymore but sometimes try it out still when lying in bed staring at the ceiling wishing I was asleep!

Wow you dragged an essay out of me. I gotta dash, I'm off to an open morning at my hospital about pituitary issues! Always lovely to catch up with the other patients, my consultants and the charity I volunteer for now :)

I'm sorry I didnt get a chance to get back to you in timely.. sorreeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!! :hugs: But I loved reading and sitting through the long writing... this is what what were all about.. how were doing and what were doing to get there... I actually looked up Cushings... you know when I was getting some medication years for for diabetes, my GP at the time was so careful as to not mix and match so many meds because one of the effects was cushings ... thats what comes to mind immediately when you talk about your road...Im' just so happy Pev that even with all this going on, you still have time in your heart and your life for so many others, and that especially after so many years away, you're able to still come back as classy as every with a jaunty step to your boot... Bravo dear!

:d_dance:

(hmmm...wish there was a boogie step :D)

As I mentionned earlier (perhaps in PM? )  I was unlucky at the beginning of October and had kind of a obstruction in me stomach...( yah Me! ) and had to have  surgery for them...right through me belly!I  I now complete with shiny staples ( or had  ) et al...but that all came out weeks ago and had a month off work but still have to take it easy on the sitting.

...and heck, I was able to connect to so many new members of our forum community here over the past wee while...I kind of think theres a reason for all. :)

Heres to our great journey, the breath we wake up to every day and that thanks me Ammamma always says in the morning as a thanks to the light were blessed to see...

Ah Gogo, no need to apologise! The beauty of the forums is we can come and go as we please, but the conversations are still there to pick back up as if we never left :) I didn't realise any diabetes meds could cause Cushing's. I know Cushing's can cause diabetes; one of the few symptoms I managed to sidestep thankfully. I'm thankful I've always had a positive outlook on life; not to say it isn't hard at times to smile but I do think it's what got me through it, along with the support from my friends and family. I always look for that silver lining; for the weight gain and fat, red face, I just kept telling myself it's a sign to my doctors that something isn't right so don't try to hide it.

Honestly though, I know you love Halloween but having surgery just so you can get staples for your costume is a bit extreme! :eqs5V2L: I take it all has gone well with that? It's nice sometimes to have that extended time off work but not fun when you're restricted. I can imagine you couldn't do very much with it being your stomach. You don't realise how often that moves throughout the day I suppose and you don't want to do damage to the incisions. What would we do without the internet eh? So nice to be able to socialise still even when laid up around the house! I'd say it keeps us from going mad but think it's a bit too late for me :friends3:Or maybe you're all the cause of my craziness ;)

You know, I was thinking that the month off was gonna be cool...but a stomach operation is so different from any stuff ive had before... sitting was difficult, i couldn't walk for more than five minutes at a time, and lifting anymore more than a pineapple (even that! ) was not recommended... I had to mostly lie out flat on my bed and had my ipad near near me while I would "side cry" :4rofl: for a bit hahahah

jokes aside, i'm so happy its all over, and being able to sit, sip and type...what joy for us spammer right ? :hugs:

ahahahah, and those staples really would have been a true commitment forward for a Halloween costume

Gogo style!

I can't even imagine! You don't realise what parts of your body do until they're injured hehe. I've only had elbow surgeries and those are bad enough. I've had both sides operated on; you'd think as a righty that the left would be fine. Nope, still do way more than you realise with your off-hand. Pituitary surgery was easy in some ways. No visible wounds, just couldn't blow my nose for a few weeks, I'll take that any day over external incisions!

I do have to wonder how many pineapples you and other patients lift that they've used that as their upper limit... you lot smuggling pineapples to the rest of Canada? :4rofl:

Not sure what you mean by 'us spammer'. I only have 52 posts :P Gosh I'm slacking. I remember my thousands upon thousands on SiF... Time to get typing. :diablo:

Not me. I don't like pineapple generally speaking... but I do like it on pizza! Generally stick to a standard margherita or vegetarian though (absolutely not a veggie here but I do love a good Veggie Supreme from Dominos!)
