Popular Post gogoblender 3,649 Posted February 9 Popular Post Posted February 9 This is a sensational and scary moment at the same time. At night, in the dark, after the sunset, huge roving machines come out, Their side car accompanying them like mini robots... Star Wars Style ... We live on the mountain near St. Joseph's Oratory, and the hills gradient makes (reportedly) makes snow removal after large snowfalls for days as we've had in the past, an almost urgent need. Last night just before setting out for Sushi Withdrawal Soothing we heard sirens, horns and whistles blaring. These vehicles were rushing up and down the street and circling cars that owners had left on the street that were now surrounded by snow which the machines had to remove. The sirens are to wake everyone up on the block to look out , see and move their car. Frenetic, especially if you're trying to move outside on the side walk and see a wild-eyed youth driving the cabs of one of the mini's right on our side walk towards you blaring music through the oversized headphones upon his ears... jump for the hills! 2

chattius 2,786 Posted February 9 Posted February 9 Montreal must be big, probably more than 131 people. Our village has just one licensed snowplow driver. And that only if I am not at normal work... Licensed means insurance if cleaning public roads. Road to house and around is private and the twins can use the snowplow on their Yamaha squad 1

I do love the homeniess of your part of the world...and I cant imagine the onus or burden it must place upon a small number to have to fend with massive dumps of the white stuff... right now outside my window, its pretty awful... I was supposed to visit Ammamma last night, but i'm not sure i can make it unless I can find some fishing waders gogo 1
gogoblender 3,649 Posted February 17 Author Posted February 17 big storm... 40 cm over a day and a half... my friend who was on a bus says it got stuck and they had to transfer to another bus... gogo
Schot 444 Posted February 18 Posted February 18 Pretty wild amount of snow! I heard on CBC that we're running out of places to put all the snow in Toronto and Montreal. Anyone got a Bag of holding handy?! 1
chattius 2,786 Posted February 18 Posted February 18 Total opposite here, but not better. No clouds and sunny. But no clouds means that the ground cools down at night. Early blossoms are frozen dead at -17C this night without an armour from ice or snow. Worse: Yesterday I was running out of spaghetti bolognese. Each day more and more kids visit our frozen field for skating. So the parents transporting the kids had to eat tagliatelle with a creamy mushroom sauce.

When I lived near the North Yorkshire Moors, the side roads would get like this once ploughed. We did a lot of walking and I'd be walking down a perfectly clear road with snow towering above me on either side. It's quite different out there than in the centre of a city though! 1

Re where theyre putting the snow..its just ASTONISHING how much has fallen! I look out and see that the sidewalk has widdened its breath by 4 metres...and there are four feet like caven wallks along the side of the side walk...its weird, miraculous how the entire outside environment can change like this ... Local Authorities are in fact telling people not to go outside and just stay home...though when you do get out there, those howling winds and snow blind land scapes are kind of wild... another great reason for Winter gogo
