chattius 2,666 Share Posted October 9 Chains of cranes flying south... Collected 30pounds of mushrooms while doing a short walk with the dog... Cranes fly because there is an open time window for them. Rain is gone for few days, clear sky. And they want to fly before the last remains of hurricane Kirk are hitting Germany. The mushroom: wet ground after all the rain and now a few hot days. Potatoe done now quinces are ripe for harvesting. 1 Link to comment

pevil 58 Share Posted November 28 Our weather has been downright weird this past week or two. Quite aside from how much it has changed in the last 5 years anyway, we've gone from -2 degrees and snow last wednesday, to 15 degrees and heavy rain last Friday, a huge storm with fast winds and even heavier rain on Saturday, levelled out around 10 degrees at the start of the week and a mix of rain and sun, and today it's back to -2 but blue skies (so far). I'm visiting my parents in France in a week. Their weather is just as unpredictable. They're in central France and quite high up with valleys and mountains around so their weather is usually comparable to here in England, it just gets a bit hotter in summer and a bit colder in winter, but a couple of years ago in October it was 30 degrees! 1 Link to comment

And visiting your parents.... deeeeeeeeelightful! Do they cook your favorite meals? Do you have a lot of memories from where they are living now? I usually get down to my Mom's two or three times a year, shes down in Maryland, so the weathers temperate, not much like here in Montreal ...but eveyrtime I go down, my Mom ( even though I ask her not to keep cooking, too old! :P) makes my faves, all you can eat curried shrimp buffet !! and ribs that she asks her friend at her work to cook for her...all partitioned into small packages of two to three ribs in a tupper wear, which we then defrost and bounce about on her bed in her bedroom while eating... wooooooooooo gogo @DocHoff Link to comment
pevil 58 Share Posted November 29 Lol Gogo, I suppose it does seem that easy to you! But it isn't really, we may be much smaller and more connected but it's still not the easiest, at least from the UK. Especially thanks to Brexit; luckily not many restrictions have yet come in but they do keep talking about giving us extra hoops to jump through. Mind you, if my parents were still up in Yorkshire it would be 4 hours on the train to them. The journey is longer to visit them in France, but mainly due to having to get to an airport that flies near to them (they're in a very isolated area), so it's 2 hours on a train or 1 hour in a taxi to get to the airport here, then 1 hour 30 mins on the plane, and they meet me at the airport for the 2 hour drive to theirs. So the timing is similar despite the distance being much more! Your mum's cooking looks delicious! I think mothers sign a contract when giving birth to promise they'll always provide their kids favourite meals. Mine spoils me rotten when I'm there. It's quite amusing, she used to tell Grandma off for spoiling me with sweets and buying me things when I'd visit her, but Mum is just as bad now. I'll get there and they'll have done a special shop just to get lots of tasty treats in for me I do have a lot of memories there. They've been at that house for 14 years now. We make less memories as they're slowing down (though still in far better shape than most 80 year olds) so visits tend to be mostly just lazing around the house enjoying each others company. We used to go out hiking a lot though, or visiting nearby towns and cities to see the sights. Has your mom always lived in Maryland or has she moved there? Did you ever live there? 1 Link to comment

Sorry Gogo, I'll hang my head in shame *hangs head* I'm not sure what my favourites are really, I just love Mum's cooking. She does a mean stirfry, that's for sure. And a great shepherd's/cottage pie. While full English breakfasts are great, we don't actually tend to eat many of them here, they're more of a treat, and you really can't do them properly in France because their sausages are awful! (Sorry France but they are). Actually her roast dinners too. Delicious. She has never been one to really do Yorkshire puddings unfortunately. I, however, do make great ones ;) That's an awful lot of places! You must have all sorts of memories and stories from each and every one. The world of large families is a strange mystery to me; it's always just been me, my parents, and my mum's parents. There are people on my dad's side but aside from my aunt we never really had anything to do with them. Errr weather... well ours is still weird. 14 degrees a couple of days ago and now just 4. Who knows what's going on? And it's no better in France so I have no idea what I'm going to be going over to. I'll pray for snow but it'll probably just be cold and wet, much like being at home 1 Link to comment
